Being a veteran on other forums its never easy starting again as a newbie....but this is my first Audi and after a quick look at the relevant forums this seems like the place to be.
I have previously had a couple of Mk.3 Focus STs, then the car I traded in for my Audi was a 2017 Civic FK8.
I have bought a new S3 Saloon Black Edition in Ara Blue. I think this colour is beautiful, it was the only colour I wanted, and everybody who has commented on my car has complimented on the colour.
The only option on my car is the paint. Yes I would have liked a few other things like Keyless(safer without but a pain getting used to again), folding mirrors(dismayed that this is an option on a 40 grand car), red callipers(would look lovely against the blue), reversing camera(its surprising how you get used to this and appreciate the benefit), and virtual cockpit(amazing!).
As it is my car just scraped in under the threshold for increased road tax, so probably even the cheapest of those options would have put it over. I didn't fancy paying £450 per year road tax....might as well have bought an RS3 if that was the case....assuming I could afford it of course. :D

Anyway I am loving the car so far....it is a step up in quality from what I have previously been used to. I am still getting used to the S Tronic gearbox....trying to figure out which mode I prefer. Auto can change up too early while Dynamic hangs on too long. I will find a compromise I'm sure. :)
I wondered why my tail lights were always on, but reading the manual it states that they are on all the time with the daytime running lights for some markets..... so obviously UK is one of those markets. Not entirely happy about this....I would prefer my tail lights only to be on with the headlights.
Disappointed to see the wheel hubs already rusting just like they did on my Civic. On a brand new car this is very poor!

Looking forward to being a part of the forum. :)

Wheel hub rust is generic throughout most of Audi's model ranges. .. Yeah very poor indeed, l plam on painting the rear hubs of my car next week that's if I can get the wheel nut covers off. .. Lol

There's a little plastic tool Jassy, wondered what it was all this time rattling around the boot then found out the other week, glad I didn't throw it away lol

welcome to the forum @Ron240 .....lovely looking car mate...great colour and wheels
I find "comfort" mode best in normal driving, then just flick the stick over into Sport a few seconds in advance of overtaking. I don't like pulling away in Sport as it is a bit jerky....but once on the move its best for spirited driving

Welcome, and I like the colour and saloon style...I wonder why? I also love those wheels, not available in Canada, and they are way easier to clean than my 5 twin spoke star design which are a pita to clean behind the bottom of the spokes.
Also Jassyo.....no rust on mine after 16 months. Methinks the hubs are treated differently for the North American market....harsher winter weather and more salt?

Before I got the car I was wondering how easy the wheels would be to clean.....and I am pleased to find that they are very easy....plenty of hand access behind the spokes. :)
I do like to keep my wheels clean inside and out. :innocent:

Cheers Dave.
I really need to pick a car and stick with it for a reasonable length of time. :relaxed:
I think this one might be a keeper though.:innocent:

FK8 was that the type R before this current one
Photos please my Mrs loves the current one, she wanted me to get one but not at my age and Honda's soft paint is one the worst in the motoring industry, well it was when I had my FN2 Milan Red

Perfect colour that on the saloon IMO. The hubs always go on any VAG car. I’ve had 5 Audi’s and VWs less that 3 years old and I had the wheels off all of them to painted the hubs black, silver or gold on one occasion .

Any plans for this car?

IIRC, Ron had one of the first of the new Type R's to be released.

Yes it was the current model Type R I had, previous model was the FK2.
Great car with amazing looks, but I just got it into my head I wanted an S3 so I went with it. My bank balance wasn't impressed but I did get what I believe to be a very good deal on the new car.

I want to get it detailed and ceramic coated. My Civic was first time I had a car ceramic coated and was so easy to look after once it was done. Plus I have a feeling this paintwork if left unprotected will mark if you look at it the wrong way. :openmouth:
Then probably paint the hubs and that's about it. I'm not big on mods at my age. :D

Beautiful Ara S3.....enjoy! Ara is a cracking colour.

Can’t believe you chopped in your FK8 TR so soon. Did it not live up to the hype that they are getting?

To be truthful neither can I. Call it a moment of madness. :D
Performance was brilliant, but tyre wear horrendous! 1mm/1000 miles from the standard tyres....and that's mostly driving gently.
When I first seen photos of the FK8 I fell in love with it, and was lucky enough to be one of the very first to take delivery. I enjoyed my (brief) time with it and am happy to say I've owned a Type R. :)

Haha, agreeing with the above. Someone at work now has the current gen Type R. He previously had the last gen... Rumour has it Honda gave him this one as a free upgrade after a bad experience during a service or something. Either way don't know which generation I find worse.

Hear they are great to drive. But just hate the looks...and that seems to be a common vibe.

S3 so much prettier :) elegance I suppose.

That's probably a good way of putting it.
Understated but much more mature. :)
The looks of the FK8 certainly divided opinion, that's for sure. :D

Curious if you have your 240R plate on the S3 @Ron240 ? That latest Civic Type R is a real assault on the senses both visually and I hear to drive, any chance you'll be bored of the S3 soon ;)

Audi's paint in general is very tough, all German cars have a harder than normal clear coat, so they don't attract swirls so easily as other marquees

Think you can have the rear DRL settings changed using VCDS. I'm sure that someone on here with far more knowledge than me will be able to confirm if that is the case.

Nice motor BTW

Good to know. :)
I am careful when washing so hopefully won't be an issue.
Tell you what though......this paint doesn't half sparkle in the sunlight. :sunglasses:

Ara blue is a crystal paint ie the metallic particles are much larger than in a metallic paint hence Audi charge a couple £100 more for it, Ara blue was first introduced on the new R8 back in 2015 and wasn't available on any other Audi in the UK til a year later on the facelift 8v S3 and the new Q2

Your car looks great!

At the time i was ordering two cars were available in the spec i wanted a Ara Blue and Daytona Grey and i had a look at both car. I really loved the Ara blue but was worried it would draw to much attention as the colour really stand out and i wanted to be more lowkey. So in the end i went for Daytona. Turns out Daytona Grey is not as lowkey than i expected as i notice lot of people still look and commenting on my car lol....

That will be the Audi four rings, for less attention you should have picked the VW badge ;)

Welcome to the forum and I hope you're enjoying the new car, it looks great!

I think the Type R is very much a marmite car, aesthetically anyway. I don't like the look of it personally but know plenty who love it.

Are you bothering to run the car in as per the manual? I picked my S3 up on Saturday and have clocked up 350miles so far. I can't wait to be able to give it the full beans! I know some people have mixed opinions on running in a new car and whether it's needed anymore, etc.

Yes it can be a controversial subject, but I am old school and believe in being gentle with a brand new engine.....avoiding high and constant revs, labouring etc up till 500 miles then relaxing a bit for next 500 before using the full rev range when I feel the need.
I am finding it a little bit different to follow my own method with this being an automatic....but still generally taking it easy.
Having said that I have had a couple of moments where I tried the full throttle upchanges just to see what it is like (WOW :sunglasses:), but I am back to driving miss daisy now. :innocent:
My car just clicked over onto 200 miles this morning when I was going to Asda.....parking furthest away from the entrance of course. :relaxed:

I knew they called it a crystal metallic but wasn't sure if that was just marketing speak......but now I see it is actually different. It already looks great but I can see the potential for it to look amazing after a good detailer gets his hands on it. :sunglasses:
Funny you should say about the Q2 because last week we were sitting in a car park and a Q2 pulled in and my girlfriend said is that the same colour? I initially thought there was maybe a subtle difference....but it must have been the same.

I see you are from Hamilton, I grew up in Bellshill then moved to Carluke in my late teens, before finally moving to Kirkcaldy where I am now.
My girlfriend works in Asda Hamilton. :D

P.S. I like your avatar. Sonny Crockett was the coolest tv cop of the 80's, and was my favourite show. :)
