I am out off the country and my wife said on the phone my 2017 Audi Avant S line Ultra Auto moved off on it's own when she moved it down the drive ready for the Valet chap to Clean both her's and my Audi's.

She said she put it in Reverse - foot off brake and it took off it's self without touching the accelerator.

Have to say she has an A1 Manual and doesn't drive my car ( not confident with an Auto )

I keep the Hand brake ( is it in Auto hill ? ) on Auto so when I come up to junction Slowing down using the footbrake - the final extra push brings on the handbrake ( green light on dash ) then when moving off with a touch of the accelerator - as it is still in D it - comes off itself.

What the heck is she doing ?

Never played with the Manual release handbrake so has she knocked the (A) Auto off and more worryingly before she takes the wing mirror off against the house wall - is she right that flicking the forward (P) release the car will move off without touching the accelerator ?

Having a 'domestic' 6,000 miles apart :blahblah1:

looking at that pic the auto brake assist isn`t on.
if the auto is in drive or reverse and you take your foot off the brake it will move

You should feel lucky you're 6k away from her having domestic lol

Ah should have pointed out the photo was from the dealers website when I bought it - but if it is like the photo the car will - as my wife says take off like a US Uber Volvo driving itself.

Do all Autos do this as this is my first ?

It is the bill for the side of the car I am worried about but I see I still have 2 door mirrors ! - she is happy with her A1 but she has to learn to drive the Auto back from the Pub as she doesn't drink and I do like a fish .

All autos have a ‘creep’ function built in

That is they will move even with your foot off the accelerator

Manuals can do this too if you play about with the clutch and get enough momentum

Thanks for all your explainations and I will try to explain to her the 'function' of the creep - one last question - using the Auto function (A) button all the time doesn't do any harm or wear anything out as from a search is said it is for hill starts - but I have always used it as 'normal'.

The auto hold only works with door closed and seat belt on - if she was just moving car, seat belt probably not on and so it will creep, maybe she expected the auto hold to engage

Now that rings a bell - as it annoys the hell out of me when I move the cars around on the drive if left on Auto Hold you have to put the seat belt on as the car just stays put.
You have to flick the hand brake off if your seat belt is off - think that's what the Valet guy has done when cleaning / moving the 2 cars around the drive.

Thanks for reminding me and see WMBO says next - she suggested we change the car to a lower spec manual - I suggested she gets a driving lesson. The car was a month old dealer demo with lots of extras + I am over the moon with it ( it is Moonlight Blue after all ) so I will win in the end :)
