What rods to go for and how much?

Hi there been trying to find the answer to this but can't. What rods should I fit to my bam engine? Just collecting parts to tune the car to 300bhp plus. So far got the 3inch down /Jr Air filter and beach buggy hybrid /intercooler. Still thinking about not doing the rods and just hopefully getting 300 out of it. But if I do what ones do I go for and how much will they set me back.
 
Cheers guys will call badger 5 as I want them to map the car. What are the standard injectors good for power wise ?
 
Do a Google search for 20mm rifle drilled rods there is quite a selection for our cars and at a range of prices,depending on your budget.

choice of rifle drilled (advised) or non (cheaper), IE or PEC, H Beam or I beam designs..
270bhp is 100% IDC on std 386cc S3 injectors in my experience as a guide
 
Most of the quotes I got were around £1500 for drilled rods fitted including new cambelt kit.

If you Factor in a basic cylinder head refresh the price obviously goes up.
 
This is why ~350bhp costs 6k.
Rods, head refresh and valves, injectors, fuel pump, exhaust manifold, turbo, downpipe and sports cat, cat back, intake, FMIC, map. - how much extra is a big turbo?

But you can get 275bhp from an intake, downpipe, fmic and map. ~1k
 
You could probably add another £3k on top of that if you want to go BT.

The S3 should have come with a 3” downpipe from the factory. The standard one is the most restrictive part of the exhaust system. Regardless what level of tune your at, changing this is critical in my opinion.

Best bang for buck after a TIP. Have a look at Badger5 facebook, Bill only yesterday I think did back to back runs of a car with a downpipe change inbetween!

Its ****** awful, why they couldnt use a simple 3" downpipe is beyond me. These teenie turbos need as much free flow as possible. To quote Badger5, its all about the flow.

100% agree standard exhaust systems are always extremely restrictive. Even if you just upgrading to a 3" exhaust system with zero engine mods, you would notice a massive improvement. In my opinion I would pay that little extra for a decent exhaust system, because its a simple mod that is essential to unlocking power gains, and reputable brands retain their second hand value.

I must say my friend had a 3 inch downpipe fitted to his standard s3 I had my just decat fitted to mine. Both cars were neck and neck before mine pulling away abit in 4th. After he had the 3inch downpipe put on he pulled 2 car lengths away from me. All about the flow for sure.
 
3" downpipe just on a k03s based turbo.....
makes a big difference. backpressure is the enemy

How on earth have you got 259bhp from a k03s turbo? I thought they could only be mapped to about 210-220?
 
£1590 here for rifle drilled rods supplied and fitted.. includes end to end balanced rods, water pump, cam belt, tensioner, tensioner pulley and rings and bore hones where appropriate..

That's a good deal - but I suppose if it is your bread and butter you can keep the hours down, do you leave the engine in situ? also would you recommend having some other easy to get to bits done at the same time eg head refresh, valves, seats etc.

there's no need to remove an engine to fit rods
head off sump off, all the access you need
