evening one and all, so today ( since 10am ) I have been washing, clay baring, polishing my car.

I'm just woundering will it be ok to wax the car tomorrow morning as I've still not finished polishing and it's starting to spit a little bit although it's not forcast rain.

If so will it be ok to just start waxing or should I have a little wipe over with some qd?? I don't plan on going anywhere so car shouldn't be dirty ( let's hope the car isn't wet in the morning either as we've had some really thick fog lately )

And will I be ok leaving detailing tape on over night ??

I shall post pics of my progress so far once I've finished polishing and had a little tidy up

I would say no as dust in the air can settle on the paintwork over night along with other contaminants.
Could give a quick rinse and dry in the morning before applying wax.
I'm no expert but that's my opinion

Quick wash and rinse

Thanks for that guys. I decided to just go for it. Managed to get one layer of wax on finishing about 10 past 9.

I don't know how you guys do it, 11 hours and I'm completely goosed lol. So much for quitting smoking improving my health

Pics to come there's a few I shall also get better ones tomorrow as it was getting dark out by the time I had finished

Started with a snow foam, wash, rinse and some iron out on the wheels

The sprayed some iron out on the body. Couldn't really see the reaction very well as It's a dark car. Then washed and rinsed the car again.

Dried the car off then decided to clay car the car to see how bad it was after 4 years and I must say it's amazing how much crap you get on your car, as you can see from the pics of the clay bar it's quite bad. The heavily contaminated ones are from half of the front doors with one pass. It was still coming off thick after turning the clay 2 times lol

I then washed the car again, dried it off, put some tape around the bits I know I'd hit with the polish and wax

Then I used autoglym srp to polish the then finished with the ultra hd wax

Bottom 2 photos are the end result. Taken before I went around getting as much of the dry wax from all the nooks and crannys, after that it was getting darker so I decided to call it a night and come from some alcohol.

Looking good. This is not something you do regularly though and you know it's properly clean. Now it's just a matter of maintaining it.

That's true. If I wanted to top the wax layer up in a couple weeks do I just wash then wax it ??

Yup just a wash n wax but you should get 5/6 weeks of beading just from the wax or you could stoop low and apply the bsd next week lol

Haha bsd sounds like a plan lol. Naaa ideally I'd like to use the wax as no point paying 55 quid for one layer of wax lol

I'm going to get some bsd and just use that from now on. I don't have time for hours or polish and wax unfortunately.
Been using megs quick wax detailer and that's fairly good too but I hear great things about bsd

I've used bsd for years on all my cars. It gives a nice shine and the water beading is amazing.

i was lucky to have time to be able to wax my car yesterday. Normally I've only a couple hours to give it a wash then bsd lol

Birds grrrr, been atleast 8 month since I've had to remove any bird poo. Surely they deliberately aim for clean cars, luckily there was only 3 small dots like this and jr came off with a couple dabs of a wet wipe

Nice bit of gloss you've got going on ....... On that roof mate

That's the uhd wax, also you were right about the applicator, I don't think it's the fact it's too soft. As the first quater of the car it went on nice and thin, but it seemed like the applicator got bunged up quite quickly and ended up applying too much. Luckily I bought 2 other autoglym applicators and 2 maguiars applicators so I had plenty to go around.

Gonna top up the wax on the 1st of every month untill the pots done then leave it to the pros next time lol

Pm me the price too please.
Also does the paintwork have to be in mint condition for ceramic coating? Mine has lots of little stone chips on the front bumper etc
Cheers

Ideally you would get paint and chips corrected, and all polished up before sealing in with ceramic, which is what I am having done.
Luckily for me, my Q5 is still very new, and no stone chips...yet!
