No they have took pictures and need to get in touch with milltek, this was on Friday so nothin will start till tomorrow. They said the have been milltek dealer for 7 years and fitted 1000s of exhausts and have never seen anything like this. They said they will be very surprised if milltek does not fix the issue. And they know I’m MRC Stage 2

@billymc92 Just a quick one mate, without filtering back through half the pages here... what size and offset etc are the alloys you’ve finally got? also have you got spacers fitted front and rear too? Cheers

Thanks mate... did RimStyle supply all the spacers etc within the price they quote online?

What offset is the standards on the Sportback, they’re different to the Saloon aren’t they?

FL Sportback has ET53 Front & ET49 Rear on the 8.5” / 8” setup

I would not be buying from Rimstyle, what a hassle I’ve had and because they supplied me with wrong wheels that they said fit because tires had been fitted to them they refused to exchange them. Rubbish customer service after the sale had gone through. And standard sizes are as Callum mentioned

That’s for the info mate... I emailed them a few days ago and they’ve just got back to me, saying their ideal fit is 8.5 et42 with 8mm spacers all round, so a bit more of a poke out than yours are

I’m all new to looking at alloys and the different fit and sizes etc... and it doesn’t help that the Saloon and Sportback have totally different offsets. Trying to work it out, here’s the figures I’ve got

Billy’s Sportback setup:

Fronts stick out 18mm more than standard
Rears stick out 18.4 more than standard

RimStyles offering for the Saloon:

Fronts stick out 11mm more than standard
Rears stick out 13.4 more than standard

With the alloys being a concaved shape, it looks like they are going to foul the calipers on the Saloon, but that’s just a guess at this stage, a bit more research required I think

Mines is only 16.4 on rear. I have 5mm spacers on rear not 7 all round

I think they’ve used you as a bit of a test mule here mate... I’m just wondering if they have fitted them to a saloon before and are aware the setups are different, as the numbers above are a good few mm’s different!

I would most certainly not go with them. If you have a problem then will not help you. There is plenty more companies with same wheels and prices to choose fron

Either that or they have no f@cking idea, which sounds like the case. As billy says, plenty other companies to choose from.

I totally agree... but I’ve been in contact with two others today and I’ve even less confidence in them! One said no spacer are need and they will be fine (same size alloy setup) and the other company has said I only need 3mm spacers but will have to purchase them separately for £40 each (again same setup)

Just for everyone’s curiosity, standard 8.0j and 8.5j rotors both weigh 13.2KG for future reference.

Clearly even Inspiri Ireland have no idea ‍♂️

I called them and wasn’t in the least bit impressed. The bloke who answered the phone obviously didn’t know what he was talking about but was convinced he did.

Are you looking at a set off them too mate?

Yes, I was as I liked the look of Billy’s but that Ispiri call put me off. I’ve gone with HRE FF04’s. Not fitted yet but they’re not perfect either so I’m not recommending them. Maybe it would be good to have a FL wheel thread to help others trying to make the same decisions.

So I thought I’ve had the sunroof rattle the last couple of days, was a knocking very loudly above my head and thought it was my sunroof after reading everything on line. Turns out my sunvisor had not been clipped back in to its slot properly and it was that knocking away. What a relief it was just that!

Some pictures I got of the car last week. Love how fat and low the last one is! Getting my springs fitted today so looking forward to seeing it sitting low and how it handles.

Billy, do you have PPF and Ceramic coatings? Car looking seriously good! Do you maintain, or regularly take to "Pro's"

Bill does your exhaust still tick on start up/low rpm?

Nope not on start up as I had the cold start mapped out. But I do get it at low RPM when accelerating/under load
What do you mean by that? With my RS3, my cold starts are always the quietest, is that normal or not? I only get a loud start up with some crackles when I've been driving for 20 minutes+, then stop and start up again soon after. I'm not aware of any exhaust ticks on mine either so I'm not aware of the issue that has been talked about a lot on here.

There’s 2 different rattles people talk a lot about on here.

The first one is not a fault, although it sounds like a fault and sounds broke it’s just present for the first 20 seconds of cold start. It’s the warm up phase for the cats. A simple solution for this is start it in dynamic and you no longer get it. Since my car no longer has any cats as I have a Downpipe there is no need for me to have a cold start as there is no cats to warm up so my tuner mapped this out.

The 2nd I and most other people talk about is the decat rattle. If your car is standard you will not have this rattle. It happens with any decat fitted so far (milltek, scorpion, OEM gutted cat proven so far) is present when every you are under load (accelerating) at low revs. (Most noticeable in reverse). There is loads of different things people say this could be but no one really has a 100% idea and no fix seems to be available yet.

I saw something on Iroz Motorsports in the US saying that the second rattle you're referring to is actually the turbo wastegate and not a rattle of some kind in the exhaust from the valves or anything else like we all thought even though it sounds like it and the only way to solve the issue is by upgrading the turbo and in turn, the wastegate.

According to Iroz you can try a little trick to be sure that it is the wastegate which requires a cheap hand vacuum pump and force the wastegate closed at idle and 'blip' the throttle and the rattle shouldn't be present. I'm not sure how or where you'd attach the pump but its worth a shot for the technical guys out there and give us a solution in terms of a fix :rockwoot:
