Just curious to know what people are considering for their next car?

I'm Loving the A4 at the moment despite it's quirks and still got over 18months left with it but I think next time round I want a car with a better balance of fun and refinement.

Here's my shortlist [in no particular order]

- BMW 320D [M Sport]
- Jaguar XE [R Sport]
- Volvo s90 [Inscription]
- Golf GTD
- Skoda Superb [SE Business]
- Focus ST [ST2 Diesel]

Not driven any of these but i'm familiar with the pros/cons of each based on my research. I'd like to narrow it down to 3 then book test drives for each.

Think i'll be sticking to Auto unless I went for the ST [and If the stars align by that time id probably get a E90 M3, a B8/B9 S4 or a C63 AMG]

Let me know your thoughts and whats on your shortlist.

E90 M3 is still fantastic to look at in my eyes. Way better than E92. C63s are cheap now. You'd pick up a good bargain.

I'm settling my B9 S4 Avant in 18 months and buying a V10 RS6 Avant. Enjoy the great engines while we can

Im on my 11th Audi. Mainly because my dad had the Audi 80 as a company car thats all we've had. Weird. Anyway, my next lease will be a S3 if it works out ok value wise or a Volvo V90. We have a Xc90 and I love that.

I've completely over egged my Lease miles per year rate. Im on a 20K per annum yet I hardly drive the A4 and on track to do only 10K I think. This will impact my calculations for my next car and I think can get something a bit more fancy only doing 10 to 12K a year

You can sometimes get the leasing company to reduce the mileage and the monthly charge in the middle of the lease if you now anticipate lower mileage.

The s4 Avant or S6 Avant (2018/19) would be all the car I'd ever want or need if I was changing cars. Or an Ariel Nomad. Does an Ariel Nomad have isofix? Found the Superb to be a lovely car but a bit last gen VW inside. Not been a BMW fan since Bangle.

Anyway OPs shortlist needs fixing to offer fun and refinement as it seems to be mainly cooking oil burners, so in the interest of balance:

Audi S4
Audi RS4
Audi S6
Audi RS6
BMW 340i
Jag XE 300 Sport
Volvo s90 Polestar
Golf GTi or R
Skoda Superb Sportline 280ps 4x4
Focus RS

Maybe also consider Alfa Giulia

I'm looking at new A7 all I can say is that advertising works on me as does shiny gadgets.

Literally only just got my car but and RS6 Avant (C7) would be all the car I'd ever need.

In saying that a 911 GT3 (991.2) would be nice.

My main daily driver other than the 8P A3 2.0tsi Cab I have, is a MK5 Mondeo 2.0 180tdci Powershift Titanium X-Pack which has the same engine as the Focus ST TDCI

The engine is great and in the Mondeo heavy body shifts it along nicely. A recent 120 miles driving I managed to get 57.4mpg which I thought was good for an auto diesel and it steers and handles far better than the 8P

The Skoda seems on briskoda forums to suffer quite a few build quality issues, and suspension noises.

The BMW when I looked is quite small and interior average.

Would love to fly the flag for the Jag but it seems that early ones have had issues with build/electronics although meant to be a great drive from what I’ve read.

Golf GTD the less said the better. If you want to look like your driving a hire car like a moron, and people tapping your window asking if you’ve got anything for sale then best forgotten!

The Volvo is a great design inside and out and they have really come along, but not sosweedish these days. Shares a few interior pieces with the new Geely black cab.

The Focus is old now due for replacement and it feels it inside to be honest. Great drive though.

I have my name down for an Alpine A110.

I have owned Audi's now for about 20 years they are very very good cars but I don't think any of them have been what I would call fun.

I will probably get a Volkswagen ID or Model 3 as a run around as the Alpine won't be at all practical.

Assuming you’ll be buying new, 18 months is far too early to be thinking about models, let alone trims! The price and spec of different trims often changes model year to model year, and sometimes trims deleted or new ones added. In the case of the bmw, a brand new 3 series model is due in about a year, so could be a rather different car! Same with a Ford Focus - brand new model out, not sure they’ve updated/announced new ST models yet.

You’ll also have a choice of a brand new Volvo S60 model in 18 months - which is the same size roughly as A4 / 3 series (s90 is 5 series / A6 sized).

Lovin' your work there! I really fancy the new Alpine too, it's small, light and nimble...

I'll need to win the BOTB competition to get one, though hahahaha!

Keep an eye on prices and spec but as mentioned, it's a little way off so things might change completely

Tiguan R (If it arrives)
Toureg (Not too keen on diesel anymore though)
X3M40i

Quite fancy a Toyota chaser ... I think I've been bitten by the JDM bug

Yeah for sure. Certainly the plus models. I'm at that stage where I want it to be cheaper though as I'm buying! Haha. Lot of car.

There's a great forum on here though for it. Maintenance wise. Unit 20 do some great work. Kinda feel new Audis are getting a bit 'samey' now. Their chassis and platforms are much much better. Probably just losing a bit of character due to VW group-isms.

That's a good shout for anyone on here actually. I remember seeing a 2012 M5 in the showroom on offer a year ago. Absolute bargain for what you get. M3 seems to hold value much better. Used market is looking good now.

Boring i know but my next one will be an suv, my local road conditions dictate this now and they are not likely to improve drastically anytime soon.

Well comfort will be high on the list along with quality and refinement.I want to avoid larger wheels and may consider adaptive dampers.Auto will be a must as well.I wouldnt consider anything larger than the Q3.
First look will be the new Q3.Oh yes and no diesels.

I’d be interested in the new Q3 if they do it in RS guise at some point.

Depending on my mileage (currently about 20k per year) then I’d consider...

New RS4 Avant
RS6 Avant (C7)

Or I might upgrade the wife’s car to Q5 for the load lugger and consider a TTS/RS, Porsche Cayman or RS3 saloon.

Rsq3?? Already cheaper than rs3 as the demand is not much

Excellent choices there. If you don't need the space, that TTRS is epic. Cayman GTS would be nice.

RSQ3 if you can put up with the 2011 interior.

It's the worst car they make haha. Tut accolade was strictly for the A2 until they dropped it. SQ2 is on the way? Different, fun, practically the same size.

Keep seeing the Q2 on the road. Looks a little awkward, like a box on wheels, definitely the A2 spiritual successor.
