Carista App

Russ you need to do a WiFi scan and it will be listed as ELM327 in your WiFi list and then connect to it. Then when you load Carista choose WiFi and it should work. That's how i do it

Bluetooth adapter in & I can connect no probs.

Do you actually have to buy a subscription to Carista to change things?

the_muzza was able to change loads on my car the other day such as switching rear lights on as daytime running lights, app is suggesting I have to pay for that?

Feel free to PM if don't want to give any secrets away in public!

Russ you do have to buy a subscription aswell i have the yearly pass which is 39.99. i think you can get a weeks access for a tenner

Ahh, school boy error on my part.

Guess there are no other apps that make changes (safely) then?

I bought the Carista dongle for £15 and you get a months free trial. You have to select the yearly subscription to unlock the month trail (no upfront cost) and you can cancel at any time. So far very impressed, enabled needle sweep, beep on locking, drop passenger mirror and rear parking sensor display

I'm going to get the year subscription & take the 1 month trial I think.

Leaving home lights, if you wanted them to come on all the time, would you set the ambient light threshold to 0 or to 7?

I am using the Carista app with the Carista OBD2 adapter and want to control the footwell lights with the MMI but even though i have selected the option in Carista i still don't get the option appearing in any MMI screen. This is on B8.5 S5 with the lighting package and MMI 3G Plus. Any ideas?

Thanks

Yes mate pretty sure i had to add mine via the green screen for it to show in the mmi. I've just come out to the car and had a look for you and you do need to do it on the green screen. If you have WhatsApp i just made a quick video for you showing you how to do it I'll happily send it to you.

I found out earlier today the same thing that i need the green menu, i also found a post on this forum explaining what to do. Thanks for replying though.

I was thrown because the app doesn't have any info regarding this, just an option to change the setting but nothing about needing more work to enable it.

Got the Carista OBD today, managed to get the needle sweep and acoustic alarm beeps, I can’t see anywhere on the available customisation menu about the visual parking display.
2014 A3 8v, it has rear acoustic parking sensors but wanted the display. Any ideas?

Got mine as a present from the wife yesterday!!

Fantastic!!
Reset the service reminder and set the needle sweep on etc

If you only have acoustic sensors, which is the as standard offering on the A4 B8.5, then i don't think you can enable the visual element. Pain in the A, but you would need to upgrade the parking sensors to acoustic and optical to have that.

I think i have the same set up on my A4 quattro. I'm having the Alpine x702d unit fitted with the camera to (expensively!) solve this issue for me : )

It’s there somewhere as I’ve only got rear sensors and managed to enable the visual display on the MMI. Keep searching and you’ll find it, mines a 10 plate A4

Do you happen to know the options code you have for the parking sensors? I have "7X1 - Acoustic parking system rear"

Would be nice to enable it but i couldn't find it in Carista.

Normally with OPS, you need the correct parking control module fitted to the car, there are at least 3 options:- 4 channel no OPS, 8 channel with OPS, 8 channel with OPS and Camera.
My early 2011 S4 came from factory with rear sensors only, so did not have OPS, I retrofitted front sensors, replaced controller for an 8 channel with OPS and a front buzzer, then enabled the front sensors and OPS using VCDS. If you are very lucky, it could be that some 4 channel controllers do have the ability to have OPS adapted in/on them.

I've looked into having the retro fit for front and rears done and in the end i've gone for the Alpine multi view camera. I figured that if i have excellent parking tech for one side, that could make up for lacking anything up front. Camera is £400 installed and front and rears (OEM) are around £800, so it seemed an obvious choice.

Will look into the parking module - thanks for that info.

I will not pretend that just retro fitting the front sensors etc was cheap, I did all the work myself, but I looked on it as being a challenge and that it should protect the front bumper in tight spaces, it all worked out well and worked first time, so was worth it.

Edit:- it was a used A5/S5 parking module that I used.

Fair play to you for undertaking the task - presume you painted them too or did they come body coloured?

I used to do a decent amount on my Golf GTI but there are some things i'll just let the pros handle on my A4

Might take a look at it in the summer, i will have the heated seat functionality to hook up too, so perhaps i'll attempt both!

My S4 needed 2 Platinum coloured sensors for the grill and luckily there was a company in Germany that was and still is selling genuine ones painted. The outer two I bought two genuine ones and a twin pack of Audi spray paint. The cabling was bought from Kufatec. Switch buzzer and control unit bought used via ebay.

My car is an early February 2011 build, so is a B8, I think that the component protection only came in a bit later, ie B8.5. Also, if I remember correctly, the usual plan for later cars is to retro fit the parking controller from another VW Group platform to avoid all these issues. There is loads of info on these forums, especially the USA/CAN based ones on this sort of retrofit. Also on the websites for sellers of parts kits like Kufatec and another which I have forgotten. For some crazy reason, I set my mind on retrofitting as per what Audi would have fitted at factory!

In my case I did not approach this upgrade with my eyes closed, I dug as deep as I could to make sure that I knew all the parts I needed to get fitted to the car and all the cabling options, then tried to find a localish retrofitter of VAG stuff - they do not exist much in Northern Britain, so maybe I got a rough price from someone further South, really so that I could work out if it would be just as cheap to travel maybe 350 miles and back and pay to get this work done for me. I ended up with a few "one off" costs - like buying the correct kit to cut/punch holes in the front bumper and buying extra contact pins male and female, reels of wire and fitting pliers because that I knew that I would need to alter/extend the front bumper cable as Kufatec etc only make the one type, and that suits the B8.5 only - no real biggy, just extra work. Also, you will need to buy new anchors for the rear seat base as they get wrecked when you lift the seat base, but they cost peanuts - which seems crazy when you see them!

Edit:- I think that I'm correct in saying that it is best to chose the Kufatec cables as they use the same route as Audi do, ie down the RHS of the car.

Great advice.

I have Hazzy Dayz 30 odd mins from me which is great, although they are pricey i will always consider them. They did me a good deal on a flat bottom steering wheel!

Thanks bud.

Just got the Carista obd from amazon. Connected first time

Enabled
Needle sweep
RIP cd
Passenger mirror dip in reverse
Hidden green menus
Beep on lock.
Oil temp/lap timer

Need to disable seatbelt chime
Enable vim

Mirror dip don’t go far and if I adjust it to where I want it the mirror only goes back a little on reset so I have to adjust again. Anyone else had this ?

Mines like that too, don't bother with the dipped mirror anymore (used it all the time on my BMW as it just worked as intended)

i had my car serviced in January by Audi and the last 30 days ive been getting daily warning of service due in 14900/30 days with the days counter counting down. I assumed they just forgot to reset it so i used carista to reset and it reset the mileage and the days to 90 days?! why wont it reset the days to longer than 90?

on a side note carista is amazing i love it already. enabled needle sweep, beep on lock, oil temp and lap timer, battery level... thanks OP

Can’t get battery level to work.

On my golf I had a problem with the same thing for years. Then after the last service before I sold it. Never came on after 1000 mls. Don’t what was wrong tbh. I would take it back for them to look at.

Apparently battery level doesn’t work on B8.5. From what I read it didn’t work properly on B8 and was dropped from B8.5.

Just bought app . . 2012 2.0 tdi b8.5

Activated battery and oil temps but cant see them anywere .

Deactivated start stop.

Needle sweep is great and beep on lock.

You need to change it from the lower button on right hand indicator stalk. It should appear on the instrument cluster. Unless off course you didn't Save the changes in Carista in which case it won't appear.

I believe that the oil has to come up to operating temp before it will register on the display.

Spot on mate. Starts from 60* and nothing before that. Oil temp and lap timer are on the same screen. I missed OPs question re battery . Battery display should be in MMI. I don't think it is displayed anywhere on the cluster.

How do you activate hidden green menu ?

How do you activate hidden green menu ?

You need to activate the hidden menu via the App first and the follow the below:

Hold the 'Menu' and 'Car' button for 6 secs and the menu should appear.

Word of caution here: you shouldn't change anything in hidden menu unless you know what you are doing - it is very easy to screw things up.

Which is precisely why I haven't enabled it. :)

I can't get beep when alarm is enabled to work. It just keeps saying trouble connecting. Other stuff does.
