Facelift Sometimes it's faster than other times

I've been driving this FL SB for nearly 4 weeks now. I've done more than 2k miles now so consider the engine well run-in.

Sometimes when I floor it, it feels like my head is getting snapped off my neck. This is good. Other times, it's really not doing it for me. I don't think it's TC kicking in, neither it is turbo lag. I'm always in dynamic (no, it really is; I know about cycling it after a cold start) so I'm confused what's going on.

Anyone else have this feeling?

Mother Nature.

Turbocharged cars are very sensitive between May and October, anything over about 18-20c and the car will feel a little sluggish after a few presses of the loud pedal. The intercooler is pretty rubbish on the cars as stock and is easily heatsoaked.

Go out at 2am in the morning and give it a blast with an 8c ambient and it will pin you back, go out 12hrs later when it’s 22c and it will feel sluggish.

Not really noticeable in the winter months, it should always feel lively.

Totally agree with this! Hit or miss at times, like the traction control kicking in when it’s bone dry! Turn it off now completely and it’s far better

Just had something similar, car in dynamic, doing about 60 mph, possibly 4th gear in sports auto, floored it, nothing. I think the answer is dont floor it, gradual but speedy on the accelerator (doesnt make sense I know) seems to do the trick, been mentioned on here before

If you do something unexpected you can catch the car out as it pre selects the next anticipated gear remember. If "on it" put it in manual and keep revs in proper range.

If you are flooring it and getting nothing I think you have an issue with your car. Never experienced any issues like this other than obvious hot weather/heatsoaking. Sometimes the gear box won't kick down to quickest gear so maybe that is what you are experiencing, but I would have expected you to notice what gear it kicks down to.

I feel the same and I don’t think it’s temp related. Just strange software issues I think. Somet8mes get the crazy traction light in the dry and then another day it just grips and goes even in the wet....

I sometimes get it short shifting into third too which is strange. It’s definately got a few quirks when compared to my 140 which was very consistent ( consistently useless in the wet but consistent none the less)

Sometimes I have the same feeling...Especially in 4th gear.
The first 3 gears you feel the power but in 4th it feels a bit flattened.
Maybe as I previously asked..the engine has to come loose even more after some miles (running in fase).

The Gearbox is also learning your driving... so if you’ve been cruising along for 15 minutes + then you boot it it’ll be in shock...

I don't think I buy any of these explanations. Sometimes I notice the difference after e.g. filling up with the petrol. Stopping and starting the engine can sometimes give me the impression that it's way faster. I'm pretty careful about the (really rather annoying) ignition sequence of, disable auto-stop/start, drive select 5 times to dynamic mode, disable traction control. This means I'm consistent in the mode the car is in.

The tricky part is measuring this perceived difference. I might run with Torque connected for a while and see if there is anything noticeable with the numbers. For sure, in my case this is not weather related, although I don't doubt that makes a difference too.

As if a turbo boost or torque limit kicks in.

Yeah I have noticed that torque management in anything except dynamic is pretty poor on the RS3.

feel the same, I personally think it's to do with teh kick down - either taking too long to choose gear or chooses wrong gear or both

I always drive manually...With launch control it goes really fast, of course normal because it uses high revs.
Think indeed that you better choose a different gear that runs high enough rpm just above the dip.
Too bad because I love driving out of deep torque when you feel the turbo come in.
Maybe we should wait for colder weather...
