So I’m still enjoying my manual S3 and I’ve been slowly saving up for my next mod (budget is 5-600) I’m not desperate to spend for the sake of spending it.
I’m upto date with services and cam Follower has been recently changed along with pcv. My current mods are
Revo intake
Apr stage 1 326/320
Bilstein B8 with H&R springs
A4 DTM wheels
So I’ve been thinking about a down pipe but would that speed the standard clutch wear out going stage 2 (car is currently on 49k)
Other option would be anti roll bars isit always the tried and tested H&R ? Also maybe an anti lift kit.
What other options do I have ?

I would go arbs and alks, sort the handling out, you won’t notice much diff with the down pipe on stage 1

I went H&R arbs and superpro alks.

Agree with 69, sorting out handling will gain more speed than a downpipe. I like anti roll bars :)
I much preferred my car at stg 1 than at stg2+, it was a lot more drivable at stg1. :)

Agree with @mechanic69 - handling mods would be my first port of call too, then brakes. Braided lines, a full flush with high quality DOT4 fluid and better pads on OEM disks will make a significant improvement.

Whats wrong with it buddy?

I would say arbs make a huge difference and are the best mod in my opinion.

Its just a personal thing but..
Its a bit like bikes, i used to have a 1978 ducati 900, you could thrash that to the edge and at 100mph you were really shifting and you were on the edge, i also had a later R1 and that would do 100mph in 2nd comfortably, if you thrashed it 100 mph in 1st gear...and it felt like 60mph.
The point is once a car or bike goes so much faster than you can ever go its not nearly so much fun as thrashing something smaller to the edge and carrying corner speed and so on.
The Audi now goes like **** of a shovel over 2.5k rpm when the turbo chimes in but that means it is breaking every speed limit in the country before it comes on turbo in 6th :)
The only way to drive it is sport mode all the time so maybe i need a DSG map.
dont get me wrong, its great fun for bombing about but for normal road use i would say a good stg 1 set up is plenty and probably more useful than stg2+

tin hat on...fire away :)

Ah yes, I know what you mean - from my biking days my favourite is the Suzuki SV650s - slowest of the lot, but somehow the most fun.

I'm the same way about Stg3ish... Stg2+ was my ideal performance level with supporting handling mods. A good DSG tune will help - I really only drive in manual mode now #racecar :)

Yeah, i also drive only in manual mode :racer:

I get you paddy i though it was something wrong with the car with stage2+.
These things at stage 2+ pick speed quite easily and if you don't pay atention to gauges you might get in trouble.
But are great fun on twisty b roads.

ARBs and a set of Michelin super sport tyres. Get a 4 wheel alignment done after the ARBs have been fitted too as this can make all the difference.

Thanks for all the replies looks like the H&R anti roll bars are the way to go. What ALK are people using ? And I’ve done some research and I’ve read on a few pages that the standard bushes will wear out quicker ?

+1 for H&R ARB's very happy with them, do the job and fit really well. Currently on hard on both front and rear but I think I need to soften the rear one.
I'm using Whiteline ALK - comes with a 'track' and 'road' bush option. I put the road one on and drives really well.

My mind is made up I’ll be getting them in a few weeks. What are people’s set ups and what’s best for eliminating understeer

Soft front and hard back seems to be the best combo for a daily driver and reduces understeer.

I’m soft front hard back, with alks adding extra camber at front

No understeer unless you are really stupid

for some reason, i keep stopping without changing and the car has to save the day. strange thing is i do most of my miles in a manual van and have no problem. I do agree though keeping it in manual does give a much better ride as you tend to change later so the turbo keeps spinning. :) As it is my car will change into 6th at 30mph given half a chance...

What pads would you recommend on the oem disks mate?

Depends on how you use the car really, plus this is just my narrow/subjective view...

For normal/fast road use, my experience here is limited, but I've looked into it and both, Ferodo DS Performance or Mintex M1144 seem like a good bet, that is meant to offer decent performance for the money. Their compound is intended for road use rather than race, so shouldn't be too noisy/dusty and last well.

For hard/track driving I had good experience with Mintex M1155 - they can take a beating and still offer reasonable performance per pound. I'm on my second set of these with the BBK and the combination work extremely well. The big downside is that they are noisy and will need some care to reduce the noise level. Oh, and the dust - you'll forever be cleaning the wheels if you're anything like me!

Soft front and a hard back seems to be the preferred set up then. It’s just deciding on the anti lift kit, is there much difference between them powerflex is cheaper and lifetime warrant compaired to the super pro

There's the option of Whiteline ALK too, which is worth considering.

I replaced the whole lower arm with the superpro kit as it also comes with the improved front bush on the arm. All the othe alk kits need the rear mount to be pressed onto the arm and I couldn’t be bothered with removing and replacing bushes. I couldn’t shift the stock mount from the arm after removal. So I figured that buying the bushes separately and then getting a garage to fit them would be about the same as buying the superpro bottom arm kit. I then sold the S3 arms on eBay as lots of golf drivers like to upgrade their steel arms to the Audi alloy ones, worked out as cheap in the end and the bottom arms are reallly great quality

I think I’ll just go for the super pro ALK + H&R ARBs would be better with the whole arm but quite abit more money on top. When bushes fail I’ll swap them out for updates ones anyway probably being super pro aswell
