Hi

I've just bought an Audi A3 1.6 TDI on an 11 plate (12 registered).
The inside is pretty dull/basic. Any suggestions on adding a bit of spark to it - esp the centre console i.e. the heater dials? :)

Thanks in advance

Could change the heater dials to a climate control unit from an A3 or the Q3?

Perhaps some vinyl wrapping? I wrapped door trims and gear surround in dark aluminium looking vinyl.
Than I replaced that boring SE gear shift knob with the S-line one. Both mods were inexpensive.
Than I put aluminium pedal cover replicas.
Than added a better looking steering wheel and s-line leather/alcantara seats and door cards.
All the above totally transformed the interior.

I don't know what to do with the centre console, it looks fine fo me.

This is how it looks now (was born exactly like yours.)

TT vents might be more in his budget :), maybe an RNSE or some carbon wrap ? Wing backs should be sold to me really.. :)

What I want is the climate control unit! Did your car come with this?
How much are the gear knobs?
Which bits the vinyl surround around gear knob?

Yes, my car was equipped with the climate control unit.
I paid £43 for the gear knob on ebay.
Here's the vinyl wrapped gear shifter surround and ash tray lid. The door trims are wrapped to match it too. The original grey trim bits looked boring to me.

I wouldn't get an RNSE these days, maybe 5 or 6 years ago.
If I was going to replace the head unit I would buy a decent Android head unit. Far more flexible and pretty much future proof due to applications being updated regularly. Not that expensive either.

No, I won't be changing the head unit.
I just want some subtle touches/cheap like the heat unit.

Don't get an android head unit whatever you do as they're absolutely crap! Just forked out nearly £400 having latest one fitted to mine and it's biggest mistake I've made!

Wow.
I paid half that for mine and it has been brilliant, not missed a beat. Far better than the RNS-E that I removed.

Perhaps I've just been unlucky then. However, a large respectable audio centre in Preston will have nothing to do with them at all as they've had so many issues. Wish I'd known that before I got mine.

There are so many copies out there that finding a good one takes a fair bit of research before committing.
I was looking for my S3 for about 6 weeks and during that time I was researching Android head units and looking at what problems people had been experiencing and how they were overcoming them.
i'm fortunate enough to have unplugged the old one, plugged in the new one and had no issues at all.

the only problem with an RNSE is it will cost you £400 for a half decent one however there is a good reason for that :) I love mine especially now i have a full postcode upgrade.

Hi, I found a few on eBay selling for around £40.
Is it easy to put on (plug n play)?
Also I'm assuming the display will work? Lol

Audi's are supposed to be non-fussy inside and out, so leave it as it is, still a quality look.
Have you seen the interior of new MB's and BMW's, just toooooo busy in there.

Nothing worse than that pop up sat nav on the 8v :) Looks like they designed the dash then thought, oh god we forgot the sat nav...and don't get me started on the 4 exhaust pipes :) whats all that about ...lol

I beg to differ, I really would like to upgrade the heat console area and that should suffice :)

I think it's better than the Sat nav screens on the Peugeots, Fiesta and some Mercs. They look like they got the Blue Peter 'sticky back plastic' treatment just before they left the assembly line. At least the pop up version isn't constantly offensive as it can be tucked away.

big job, not plug and play. the front display might be £40 but the stuff behind it has to be converted from cable to electronic. not worth the time, money and hassle.

my vote would be headunit and seats. oh and maybe the perforated tri spoke wheel?

That does look neat - how much please?
I used this vinyl wrap: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brushed-...ubble-Free-All-Colours-All-Sizes/322053360233
It's good enough yet the best one. I would choose 3M vinyl as one with the best finish if I could afford it that time, but as it was my first experience in vinyl wrapping, I chose a less expensive option just in a sake of experiment. Beware, it took me 2 hours and three attempts to wrap the first door trim before I got used to working with the material. Than I needed 30 minutes for one door trim. The gear shifter surround was easy and fast job in comparison to the door trims. The ashtray lid was most challenging. If you decide to do this mod, you should chose at least a 500 mm x 1.52 m piece of vinyl.

On the head unit. Do not listen to folks who say it's rubbish. Old models had performance issues due lack of RAM. I know because I owned one. The last one that I have now is Android 8 with octacore CPU and 4 GB RAM. I didn't have a single glitch during a few months of using it. It fast and stable. You just need to choose the right brand (Xtrons).

Ahhh! I'm not capable of that. Thanks, I'll stay well away!

Oh no, I thought you could buy it all complete! Lol
Looks like I won't be doing much change for the time being....
Thanks for commenting.

If you insist on doing something, then the Astray Delete is worthwhile, especially with led light under the heater console.
I actually did this easy mod myself, the only one mind you.

The easier way could be plastdip it with your choice color instead of vinyl wrapping. It is easy to do as well as to remove if you dislike the result and it could add nice personal touch. And it's inexpensive. Actually, I consider doing it myself one day.

As alternative, I've got S3 brushed aluminium door trims in good condition (no scratches, some minor wear marks) for sale. I'm asking £100 plus shipping. I don't have matching ashtray lid and gear shifter surround though.

I like the SootySport's idea of the ashtray delete.

Can you show me a picture of what you mean please?

Here’s mine. Well worth it I think.View attachment 156150

Thanks for sharing this photo, It's a mod I want to do to mine as I don't smoke and that spot would be prefect to place my mobile phone.
At the moment I have some anti-slip rubber on top of the ashtray cover for the phone to sit on, but it's a poor solution and irritates me.

Do you happen to have a part number or remember where you got the Ashtray delete from?

The instruction and part numbers are in the forum. Search (maybe even in google) Audi 8P ashtray delete.

Read some of the build threads which also has the info.

I actually just stumbled across it whilst reading your build thread that you updated.
Very handy listing the part numbers as you progress your build, I wish more people would do this :thumbs up:

I bought mine from eBay £20
Takes 30 mins or so.
I could have used the ashtray light as a down light for the area but atm have just stuck it under the trim.
