1.5 tfsi real world mpg

What sort of mpg are people getting from their 1.5tfsi ? Most of my driving is long distance on the motorway.
I've seen some people quote 35mpg which seems very low compared to the official 57mpg combined. I know it is unrealistic to expect the official figures but I would hope for something in the range 40-45.
 
You should get up to 50mpg easily on the motorway if keeping to the speed limit.
Think you’ll just bowl along at 80 and it will take a dive - but still pretty good.
Most of my driving is very short journeys and I get over 40mpg (1.4 tfsi cod)
 
As above 50mpg is easily achieved on a decent motorway journey as long you keep at 70 ish where COD has a chance of remaining active.
 
I've only got 600 miles on the car, and over that mileage the average speed is 25mph! and the DIS mpg is 38.
 
Just for comparative purposes, my 2.0 TFSI 190, after 13000 miles, average speed 19mph, average fuel is 34mpg.
Motorway trips at legal limit = 49mpg
Best long trip with time to kill was 53mpg.

As mentioned in another thread I do a journey about 12 miles everyday, (24 round-trip). I generally get 42-45Mpg each direction with a mixture of general roads and short stretch of A road, including traffic. I don't floor it nor do I let the turbo kick in when joining the short stretch of dual carriage way. I've only got 350 miles on the car so far. I'd have to check the average speed but it's probably around 20 Mph.

I went to another work site and achieved 51 Mpg in 8 miles on the A1. Which I thought was seriously impressive considering my previous Corsa took 200 miles to get 50Mpg... The same trip, I would've reckoned the 1.5TFSI could've potentially got me somewhere like 75-80Mpg.
 
I don't think I am getting 50 mpg on motorways, at 70 miles per hour, even when driving very gently.

Also, the CoD indicator (well buried/hidden in the various display options, probably on purpose) doesn't come up very often. It's basically when the car is cruising and not accelerating anymore. As soon as you apply some throttle (even lightly), it disappears. I doubt CoD makes actually any real difference to fuel consumption, but at least it's completely seamless .

The 1.5 TFSI engine is great, very refined/quiet, but the fuel consumption is nowhere near what is advertised. I was expecting some improvements after a few thousand miles, but I have now done more than 6,000.

My previous 2.0 TDI engine was giving 55 mpg (or higher) on motorways very easily.
 
COD isn't likely to work when you're requesting the car to accelerate. Its more efficient to use 4 cylinders to get the car to the desired speed then switch back. Plus it would make the car sluggish to drive and un responsive.

I completely agree about the real world MPG, the car never returns anything like the adverised figures but I do find the instantaneous mpg will hit 50 on a decent motorway run (> 100 miles)

I find the mpg terrible on short journeys and also affected by cold weather.

Calculating mpg across a full tank (distance/litres) I get around 43 to 45 thats with a mix of short journey, A road and motorway. Ive done 6000 miles but have manual rather than S tronic.
 
I did a 20 mile round trip and smooth flowing country roads and hit 50mpg in a Q2 1.5tfsi. Should be no problem doing over 50mpg on motorway. My S3 has seen 43mpg on motorway!
 
I have checked and my average so far is 43mpg over 6,000 miles. My 2.0 Tdi did 53mpg over 45,000 miles. Usage is about the same, maybe half motorways and half town.
 
How old you guys getting 40? I get around 30-35 on auto mode. I have the 1.5 petrol automatic too.

What kind of journeys/speeds? At 50mph constant speed on the flat I get mid-50s, even as high as 60+ with a tail wind on a hot day, but motorway driving at sees it drop to mid-40s. City driving is sub-40 and very short journeys even less. Drops in winter too.
 
We own a 67 plate A3 1.5 TFSI BE; purchased it in March this year and have covered just shy of 1,500 miles. It includes some very long motorway runs but in the main most journeys are short (less than 30 miles). I am not particularly heavy footed; so far we have averaged 43mph.

In day to day useage it's in the low 40s, which isn't bad, but I believe it doesn't really improve much on motorway runs because the A3, like most smallish hatchbacks isn't terribly aerodynamic and creates plenty of turbulence behind the car (which is why it needs a rear wiper) especially at higher speeds . Those are brim to brim figures calculated from the mileage and the fuel added to the car. Don't believe the fuel computer which, on my car at least, is optimistic by a good 4 to 5 miles/gallon.

Speed never over 50mph and quite a lot of stop start situations and around 30mins. What mode do you think is best for driving on the motorway?

I’ve averaged 46mpg (based on actual fuel bought not DIS) over 18.5k miles. Mix of A roads and motorways

In which case sub 40s is exactly what I'd expect. For motorway, auto mode.
 
The wife is looking at a 1.5tfsi for her next car. Is the consensus the car will easily achieve 40mpg + ??

Yes so long as it’s not driven like you stole it and a reasonable mix of non-urban roads. You’d struggle to reach 40 if you mainly drive it round London for example

Thanks buddy, most of her driving is in town and she gets 40mpg out of her 1.4tfsi 150ps A1 so if she gets that she will be happy.
 
Yep the 2.0tdi blitzes the COD with economy. I'm currently driving the 1.5tsfi a3 while awaiting the arrival of q2 2.0tfsi quattro. I've had the 1.5tfsi for a month kindly lent to me by the dealer as a delay on my order and my 2.0 tdi went back to vwfs.

My 2.0 TDI averaged 45.7mpg over 30000 miles but this wasn't thinking of how i was driving. Generally heavy footed and over (i wont say how much) speed limit on dual carriageways and motorways. I now find the 1.5tfsi has turned me into a saint. Never over speed limit and gentle as anything but the average mpg is 33. Yea i've only had it a month but after the first couple of days driving like i did in the diesel i had to drop it back as the mpg was as low as 20mpg. I'm now cursing myself ordering the 2.0tfsi as i'm going to have to be even more saint like.

The biggest sore point for me is i always fill up with £50 no matter the cost of petrol/diesel etc and whether this fills up completely or not. With the diesel i'd generally get anywhere from 350 miles to 400 miles out of this £50. With the 1.5tfsi most I've got is 280 miles and think this is really telling compared to average mpg figures etc.

Put simply petrol will never get anywhere as close as diesel so do you sacrifice economy and mid range torque for smoothness, lower down power and far less noise?

Agree that petrol will not match diesel for mpg but think you may be pleasantly surprised by the 2.0 TFSI.
I’ve had up to 60mpg on a long motorway trip when keeping to speed limit.
Hope you enjoy it when it arrives.

Yea i'm sure i will. I'm enjoying the 1.5tfsi to be honest (only issue is fuel consumption) as it's the first car i've had with s tronic so im sure i'll like the 2.0 tfsi even more especially with it having quattro.

I've read a few reports about the 2.0 tfsi obtaining fairly decent mpg so i'll remain optimistic in the hope i can get some decent figures.

What is your average mpg?

Indeedy. It is unrealistic to expect the car to get anywhere near the 'official' figures, not least because those figures were never intended to be a guide as to what you might - or should - expect the car to achieve when you jump in it yourself.

Audi's (and everybody else's) quoted consumption figures are there purely to facilitate a comparison between different models and makes.

They're obtained under a set of very. tightly controlled non-variable conditions which all manufacturers are obliged to use, and the only way they can be non-variable (and therefore of any use as a comparison tool) is if all the variables that 'real life' driving involve are removed from the testing procedure.

It'd never be possible to produce worthwhile (or even hafway accurate) real life consumption figures because there are so many different factors that would have to be taken into account that the testing criteria would be impossible to replicate.

according to the trip computer, since I've had it my average speed is 18mph and average fuel is 34mpg.
That's a city commute for you !
 
At least it's beating this 1.5tfsi im using. My work commute is 7 miles but 6

miles is 60-70 mph dual carraigeway.
 
Crickey, I'm getting 30mpg knocking about in my S3. AND I'm not driving like Miss Daisy (no offence to anyone), just normal everyday style as always.
Even managed 41mpg on a trip up to Gretna. :thumbs up:
 
I have a3 sedan 1.5 tfsi and i have 8.3 l/100 km for my first 3k kilometers . 28 mpg in us, 34 mpg in uk :)

I have just purchased a 2017 A3 1.5 TFSi S tronic. Lovely car and really pleased with every aspect apart from the MPG. At the moment - with about 50 miles covered, the short term MPG says 28mpg. Long term the same as reset when purchased. Has been used 100% round town so far. Very short journeys from cold of between 2 and 6 miles. Have been driving carefully in 'Economy' mode.

Is this unusually low does anyone know? Or usual for this sort of short stop/start journey work.

Low thirties for town driving/short journeys, it does hurt the mpg but much better on longer commutes.

I would have been happy with 33/34mpg but firmly at 28 seems a bit low to me. Especially driven carefully in eco mode. I take your point however that it hopefully would be better on a longer run. I will have to wait to see what I get when I eventually get out on a decent run. It will be interesting to see any other responses..... Thank again
 
On a motorway run if i stick around 60/65 the display registers about 50. As soon as I hit average speed camera warning of 50mph and I drop to that it quickly climbs to high 50's sometimes breaking over 60mpg. Day to day when I travel out of rush hour it usually shows high 40's after 5 or 6 miles when the engine is up to temperature. If traffic is heavy/rush hour this is high 30's. I think my trip is showing average of 52 over last 800+ miles as I've had some long runs.
The engine management really is tuned for economy around 56mph and if you can stick to this it is very economical, not far off diesel economy.
When towing a 1200kg low profile caravan abroad it obviously drops. Over a 2,500 mile summer tow with car and van fully laden I got 33/34mpg. At lower UK legal speeds and lightly loaded I rhave recorded 37/38mpg.

Don't drive it in eco mode, many ASN users (including myself) have experimented with the driving modes and to be honest the cars perform better mpg in normal/sport mode.

4.5k and long term 44mpg

find eco works brilliant around town with coasting

best I have had was 400 mile round trip with a few 50mph stretches on the m6 was 54mpg

Cracking engine- suits the car, car feel nimble and very refined

COD is great - can feel a very slight vibration when engaged but is seamless with the driving

Just what I was going to say. Plus I tried eco and really hated the coasting mode - felt out of control with lack of engine braking.
