Hey peeps,

Before you start shouting at me, yes another oil catch can thread! But a simple one....

Bought a £30 oil catch can from eBay.

Comes baffled and with vent to atmos if required along with various sized fittings, obviously I’ll be using the 19mm fittings, but the internal diameter is 10mm?! Is that going to be fine or will it choke the crankcase venting? Also I know it’s only 300ml but this car won’t be a daily driver so emptying it won’t be a regular thing.

Cheers,

Ash

As you can see, it’s a small catch can, but gives you an idea what I mean about the connectors inner diameter size (10mm)

I'm not a mechanic but i dont think it will matter that it goes from 19mm to 10mm. You might just need to keep an eye on it if it's a small catch can so you can empty it.

Thanks for your input buddy, to be honest having done a closer inspection of it.... it’s getting sent back, the quality isn’t there, I’d have to use PTFT tape everywhere to stop leaks from happening, etc.

So I’ve bought this one instead, it doesn’t have that additional vent option or a dipstick... so two less areas where it’ll potentially leak. Better internal baffle and it’s 500ml so slightly bigger as well.

According to the guides and advice in the catch can threads, the first choice would have been a problem 10mm is no good, even with an adapter.

The new one looks good, mine was a nightmare, wasn't baffled difficult to drain.

Yeah I agree Stu, the new one looks much better.... I should have taken the time to look for it before buying the other one. Hey hoo, on to the next purchase
