Hello.

When I start the car, it shows the mode in use when I turned the engine off which is normally dynamic. However, it's quite apparent that the car is not really in dynamic mode. This means I have to hit the drive select button 4 or 5 times to cycle through all the modes until I'm back at dynamic.

This is annoying and couple with it, my steering wheel button (which I have mapped to drive select too) is bit unreliable, especially when the thing has just turn on.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks!

Standard Audi I’m afraid.

It always drops out of Dynamic.

Star button is known to be patchy at best on the FL car, maybe they will fix it one day with an update....as well as the poor reversing camera imagine being squished.

As you say either toggle round to it or have it on the MMI display then you just press the large jog wheel once to re-select Dynamic.

Thanks for the reply.

I wouldn't mind it dropping out of dynamic. It's just an obvious software bug which continues to show dynamic mode :( Agree that it seems like a software update could address this and the button.

Somewhat related, I'm trying out Carista to tweak a few settings. It's rather limited but what's there seems to work.

When you just turn the car on, it's not possible to instantly go into the drive select modes as it needs to configure itself. Wait a few seconds and then you can. This drive select issue happens on the Q5 we have too.

I go into the Drive select every morning before the cars even started via the button.

You dont need to wait for the pop up screen to configure itself, you can change drive modes straight away using the display on the virtual cockpit.

I find it fascinating that a huge company like Audi obviously ignore these faults during development.
I mean it couldn't take that much effort to 1. Make it say "Comfort" on every start up and 2. make the star button work properly.

It’s not that it doesn’t work, it’s because your trying to push it right away. If you look on the VC on start up it says “initialising” and as soon as that’s away it works fine. I admit it’s a bit slow but it’s just needing time to boot up rather than a fault.

Actually there is a fault with the * button on the wheel, sometimes it works fine, sometimes it takes ages to start working.

Lot of FL owners have this issue.

A result of Audi overhauling the MMI and not ironing out the bugs, such as the reversing camera image that’s squished because they couldn’t be bothered to do it like the FL Golf which is fine.

Not a fault though they do it like that on purpose just to avoid then next driver of the car being "surprised" by sporty dynamic mode.

Agree though it should default to comfort every ignition cycle.

start up sequence for me is ....

a) start car
b) toggle MMI to comfort and back to individual
c) turn off start stop

Good to go :icon thumright:

If you turn the car off in dynamic, when you restart is it not just a case of when selecting drive on the gearbox select S?
I thought everything stayed in dynamic apart from the gearbox?

I'm pretty sure it's Comfort even tho the display is lying. I.e. it's a software bug. Exhaust sounds like a Prius after the initial pops an bangs.

Yeah I get that.
But I wonder how the discussion went at Audi when they decided to visually let it be in Dynamic but in reality its in comfort on every start up.
Cause, surely, they couldn't have failed such a obvious thing like that :expressionless:

IMHO
Default to comfort => fine
Mismatch between actual drive select mode and what's displayed on the MMI => almost certainly a bug

All manufacturers do the same. It is because the official type approved tests including fuel consumption, emissions etc. are based on the standard settings. Per regulations this is how the vehicle should perform when starting the vehicle.

Ok I get that so why not just make it display comfort then, everyone’s happy

You can go into drive select without turning the car on but like Billy said, you gotta wait for the system to 'initialise' for a couple seconds before you can change modes.

Excuse me if I sound stupid but do you mean you can change modes from VC without the star button?

Mine will select modes as soon as I press the ignition on.

The only time I’ve seen ‘initialising’ is when going into the MMI car menu.

Doing it via the D/S button on the dash changes it straight away on mine as I can see the mode change in the VC.

Yes. Via the Drive Select button on the dash.

On this topic, every time the star button doesn't work (70% of the times I press it) I envy the ttrs owners and their steering wheel :unamused:

If you hold the star button the star menu comes up allowing you to select what the star button does. Just click drive select option and carry on?

Most likely poor decision making by the Engineers. However, my RS6 did the same and I remember an occasion when it reverted back to Dynamic features on its own accord after a while of driving. Most of the time I would toggle through comfort/dynamic at start up like everyone else so never got the chance to test how long this took.

Doesn't work @terminator x

I've tried it selecting another function for the * button which works, but re-selecting drive select function and i get nothing.

It's a bug that needs ironing out by an update i suspect

I double checked this morning and the dashboard drive select button switches modes instantly as soon as the start button is pressed.

You can do the same on the 3 @terminator x

The problem is it doesn't like Drive select for some reason

But it seems ok with any other selection.......

Im getting used to press start/stop, drive Select 5 times and ESP once while starting the car. Little bit annoying though...

Question to PFL owners, do your cars have the mad start up noise you get in the FL ?

Not heard a PFL but yes, I would describe the noise as mad, irrespective of drive select mode. But NOT at cold start. Cold starts are rather dull.

Oh yes! I've owned both and the PFL has the mad pops and bang start up and is just generally louder full stop.

A cold start in an underground carpark takes some beating on my PFL.

Works fine on the 4 though eg hold star, select what you want and carry on as normal.

Hey TX ... do you have the same faff with the RS4 - that it defaults back to quiet mode too on start up ?

Cold starts are MAD on the pre-face lift lol :tearsofjoy:
Especially in a garage to amplify the noise even more :icon thumright:

Agreed .... there is a shopping centre we visit every so often and whenever we get there, I wind the window down (wife frowns lol) and just can't help myself  :speakerthree::speakerthree::boom::boom::speakerthree::speakerthree:

It does although not as noticeable as the RS3 ;) star button also stops working but easy fix by holding it down as above.

Ah right ... I wonder why Audi do this ???

Do what ?

Default the car set up out of ‘loud mode’ into ‘quiet mode’ on every start up ... even in individual mode !

It’s not like it quietens the car on cold start up is it ... it only affects warm start up in terms of noise volume.
