Facelift Cheapest way to get into a new RS3

So 2 years have passed since this debarkle ..

And then in the months after me chasing insurance and the ridicule I suffered on this site regarding the infamous 'when will the facelift appear?'

Anyhow, so things have settled and I am now investigating owning a new RS3 again. Before I had the wad saved. This time I am wadless although I do now have the room in my monthly spare wad.

Car spec comes in at 53k configured

So questions.

1. When I bought my car before the dealer would not budge an inch on the price. The best I could do was to get them to 'throw in' the paint protection. This time my dealer has recently called me to say they would pay the first 3 payments. On the quote he gave me that equated to about 2,400 quid which seems great given in 2015 he would not budge. Does anyone have similar or better examples?

2. Finance. I have had Halifax say they are willing to lend me 50k, I need to find the 3k deposite but the interest is a pretty reasonable 5k ish (4% apr over 4 years). Does anyone know of a cheaper way to finance it?

3. Insurance. My last car was nicked, that was 2 years ago now and obviously not my fault but a quick visit to comparemypolecat has revealed some horrifying 1k+ insurance quotes (and we have moved to a gated estate) Is that just how much it costs to insure an RS3 now? If not then some company names I can try would be awesome

4. Any other advice would be greatly received

I can't help in anyway on any of the above....just got my fingers crossed you can now get back the car you had 2 years ago and hope you have some better luck!

You should get a discount off a £53k build. Push for the 3 payments they are offering to be knocked off the list price rather than them paying 3 months. That would bring the price down to £50,600 which would be a decent 5% off list. If you can try push them to below £50k tho (6%+) some dealers can offer that level of discount. You could try carwow and orangewheels to get a good quote for your dealer to try and match.

Over the long term it makes sense to fund the balance at the lowest possible APR, if you can afford to do that then go for it. Audi PCP on the RS3 is around 6.4% if I remember right so at 4% you’re beating that.

Insurance wise, yes it’s a shi**er on the RS3. They are in a very high insurance group due to the amount of thefts there are in the Birmingham and Yorkshire areas of the country (even if you don’t live in either, you’ll still be hit) The RS3 is a magnet for thieves.

My TTRS and RS6 cost me less to insure than the RS3, I just couldn’t get my head around that one.
 
Re 4 you need to wait for the new model, so much better than the FL ;)

Don't think you are going to better finance than 4% on ~£50k. As you say, £4k interest is somewhat palatable when you compare it to the ~£9k it would cost you on a 4yr PCP style loan...

The most obvious way to reduce that interest charge more is to make overpayments and clear it ASAP, but I'm sure you know that already! Depends how much more you can throw at the already pretty high £1k per month payments? The other option is save more and borrow less, but again, I'm sure you already know that too...

How important is 'brand new'...? I really don't understand the fascination personally. It offers particularly poor value for money if you can find a used one with your spec. Side by side, I'll be pressed to tell you the difference between a 1yr old one, and a brand new one with the plates covered, so why pay a good few grand over the odds for it? Will easily cover extending the warranty.

See above...you can't compare APR between the two different types of loan. A PCP charges way more interest than a standard loan. Even if the personal loan was 8%, it would still be cheaper than the PCP at 6.4%.

Yea I did have a quick look, but....a couple of k is still nice! I admit I didn't look too deep into the spec list of the cheaper ones, so no idea if they were cheap because they were more basic. Highly likely....

I would be tempted to hold out for a 1yr old one of the right spec in the hope I could get it several thousand £ cheaper, whilst increasing my upfront payment negating the need to borrow so much..but that's just me. Well...it would certainly help with questions 1 and 2 of your OP anyway :)

Just reading your previous thread. I think a separate GAP policy that is full replacement is worth it given your experience. If there is no replacement, they pay the invoice. Which ever is highest. Given it would only be a few hundred quid from places like ALA or gapinsurance.co.uk, I personally think it is worth it.

To be honest, when I hear so many stories of completely ridiculous offers from insurance companies, I tend to think it's a good idea generally. It at least guarantees you will get proper market value, with the added bonus of covering the depreciation as well. There aren't many non-compulsory insurance policies I would buy, but GAP to cover me for 3/4yrs on new/relatively new used car would be one (that and fixed term life insurance...).

Guess it depends how long it takes for one to come up...!
Perhaps give yourself a timeline...? And then under no circumstances look at used cars if you place a new order (Sod's law and all that...).

As for insurance, hard to say as it is so dependent on personal circumstances. Age, postcode, profession, history, etc. etc.

I guess it depends where you live etc on insurance but I'm 27 and mine is £800.

Regarding the new car, there seem to be a lot more about now than there were when the PFL came out so dealers have a lot less room to stand still on price, so you should be able to get a good deal. Audi Oxford offered me a £57k build for £52k, so you should be able to get a £53k build in just under 50 I would have thought.

They also seem to be losing a lot of money very quickly too. Whether it's market conditions or the supply of the cars I'm not sure, but Audi Oxford had a black FL saloon for £40k in Feb. Quite a basic spec but had very few miles. Might be worth waiting to see if you can find one about with your ideal spec.
 
There was a nice black FL Saloon for £45k with good spec and 700 miles on it but it sold really quick. If you're fast you can find some good used ones. I'm looking at a £53k spec car as well. UKCarBroker had the most discount when I checked last month with 6.5% including discounted options but they seem to have got rid of RS3 on their website (Only have A6 avant which is strange). Carwow got me a 5.2% discount from Tamworth Audi which brings it to around £50k. For me its still too much tbh, I'd rather wait and save up more/get more discount. Who knows, maybe the new A45 AMG will be better or there are some MY18 changes.
 
Why buy a brand spanker and be 5k upside down as soon as its delivered? I bought mine back in March, ex-demo with 4k on the clock, paid 37k for it ;-)

Its not poverty spec either. Didn't have sports exhaust (not bothered as an aftermarket one will follow soon), no pan roof, again not bothered.
 
If I can find one with the exact spec I'm looking for then I have no problem with it. My current S3 is an ex-demo too.
 
Saloons are overpriced at the moment so ordering new was the best option. Managed a 9% discount.

Ive tried carwow best was 3.2% on 53K local dealer wouldnt even match still move than im willing to pay and i now theres got to be more movement in price as on a second hand one it seem easy to get the price down.

Forget the usual suspects - carwow, broadspeed, orangewheels - their members aren't offering deals on the RS3 at the moment. My order was raised last week and is being processed. As soon as I have concrete info and an order number I will post the details.

Or

9% discount off list price of car pre-vat
Plus options at normal rrp

Not sure why people are getting hung up on VAT. It doesn't matter if the discount is pre or post VAT calculation. It works out the same.

With regards to options, yes, every discounted quote I have ever received has included the same discount rate on the options. You are receiving a discount on the total price of the vehicle except OTR costs such as road tax.

I am in the process of obtaining permission to forward contact details from where I received the discount. If anyone is seriously interested then please pm me.

UKCarBroker got quotes up for RS3 again. The £52.5k spec car saloon I'm looking at comes down to £48991 so more discount than before.
