Transmission in Sport mode when in efficiency?

I have a 2 litre TFSI quattro Avant and have noticed a few times the car will select sport for the transmission when in efficiency mode. Is this normal or a fault? As sport holds on to fears for longer, I didn’t think it would be possible in efficiency mode.

Took a picture when stationary to show this -

Have you pulled the gear selector back just a little by accident and knocked it into S mode? Can’t say it’s ever happened on my S4 unless I do it myself.

I thought sport mode was good for fearing it?
But as Daggerit says, maybe you accidentally moved the gear selector?

In efficiency mode you can shift into sport by pulling back on the gear lever, pulling back again switches it back.

Works well if you just need it for a busy junction or roundabout. Sport mode also disables stop/start which again is handy at busy junctions.

I use this all the time, its not a fault.

Yeah, that’s what we were getting at. Thinking maybe it was just pulled back by accident? I’ve done it before thinking I needed to put it in drive when I’d forgotten it already was. Haha

Thanks folks. Didn’t realise knocking the shifter back put it into sport, glad I asked as that’s handy to know. On the last few autos (BMW) it’s been over to the left for sport but that’s obviously manual on the Audi

As an aside, I’ve only just found out after 18 months of ownership that you can go straight to drive from park by pulling all the way back (to sport toggle position) in one move - been tapping back twice until now!

I’m really confused as I don’t know what the double tap you’re talking about is? I just push the silver button on the side then pull the selector back to select drive, just like I’d push the button and move it forward for reverse?

Sorry, meant from reverse not from park.
For example, from reverse it’s possible to go straight to drive in one push of the shift lever (obvs with the button on the side pushed in). If you pull firmly on the lever it goes past the first initial stop and on to the second further position (sport toggle) thus going directly to drive without two pulls back. Works the other way too.
If you already do it you’ll think I’m an idiot for not knowing, I only figured it out as I had to move a colleagues BMW and it does this - the gear lever has less resistance so it went straight forward, I thought it was a good feature not knowing the A4 did it too!

I’m pretty sure you don’t actually have to even press the button if you’re on the brake and still slightly rolling. Unless I push the button subconsciously and just think you can do it without pressing it. Haha
