On the Italian market 6 engines were broken on RS3 FL. It seems that it is known in Audi as the new engines are already ready in stock ready for replacement.
Detect crankshaft bearing bushing and piston breakage.
On the UK market there were no breakages?

I've just had an RS Focus Mk3 déjà vu experience. I hope this is only limited to a small batch of RS3's unlike the Focus.

Here we go again :seenoevil:

Stock engines ? or tuned and what millage

A lot more info needed here before we know anything... stating just the numbers means nothing at the minute really... hopefully the OP can find out more info

Two absolutely stock engines. One broken after 4,000 km third piston broken, another broken after 6,000 km seizing crankshaft bushings. Another engine had been mapped. I have no information on the other three.

 Well dang...
However with quite a few stage 2 and some stage 3’s running fine so far, we’ll see :whistle2:

yeh focus rs seems to be blowing engines left right and centre

That’s the whole reason me a good few others are on this forum now... I had a fair highly modded RS witch obviously wouldn’t have wouldn’t have stood a chance come a warranty claim, so it had to go! There is a recall out now... but that’s came a good 7-8 months too late for me

The focus is a good fast car. perhaps better around the track than even the fl rs3 but its the appalling build quality, dreadful interior and stupid spoiler that puts me off buying one

It was a real nice car to drive... mine was running 400+bhp and was very capable... still didn’t beat the looks of the mk2 RS I had a few years back though haha

It's definitely the reason I'm here. I absolutely loved the FRS on my test drive and put my deposit down straight away for an Edition. Then I read up about the "chocolate engine" issues and got scared away quick sharp. Bit of a step up to an RS3 mind you :whistle2:

Not heard of any issues, may just be a bad batch that was shipped to Italy.

A few of the Iroz cars are now running 700-800hp, the APR car running TTE625 is at about 700hp, there's a few in Germany at 600+, quite a lot of cars now at Stage 2 500+ levels and haven't heard of any of them breaking. The new engine seems to be a very strong unit based on the abuse that Iroz and equally APR are throwing at it.

You ever feel like going back to the mk2? I got rid of mine last year but I'm itching to get back in one, don't think I'd ever get rid of it once I get it again though.

I have received telephone feedback from the MTM dealer that the series of engine breakages is well known also to the famous German trainer. Broken stock engines and engines are easily broken. The cause seems the poor quality Italian petrol that creates detonations with consequent breaking pistons or crankshaft bushings (due to greater pressure due to detonations). I'll show you information as I received it. But I think it is true as he has advised me to wait for what Audi decides (see any recall campaign) before processing cars (against his own interest).
I went to check log I had done on my stock car ... even with gasoline Q8 100 octane (I think the best available on the Italian market) on the second but especially on the third cylinder the control unit also corrected -3%. Even with a DVX map this correction did not emerge.
Reconnecting the information found by forum users, there was a break on the third piston. It would be interesting to know from the two forum users that unfortunately they broke if they often alternated 100 petrol with 95 octane gasoline. Making a pull immediately after full 95 octane with control unit that was calibrated to a 100 octane gasoline could give rise to dangerous detonation.
Perhaps on the FL have adopted less robust components than the PFL where these problems have never emerged.

It is still a Bosch med17 they are using in the fl car and it can rapidly act for up to -18 degrees of timing. The car can pull timing detecting knock within milliseconds, I doubt that would be the issue!

Something to note when I was in Italy the '100 Ron' they sold at various pumps was equivalent to uk 97 octane which is not very good fuel tbh.
