A3 S-Line sportback build update - what next?

Good evening all!

It's been quite a while since I've been active on ASN, so I figured I'd post an update on my A3.

I've had this one about 18 months now, I bought it to replace my lovely C6 A6 3.0TDi Quattro as it was costing me the earth to run! I swore I'd keep this one standard, but, well, I don't have to explain myself to you lot...

Spec (as I bought it)

* 2013 A3 8V 2.0TDi Sportback S-line
* Bang & Olafson
* Cruise control

Spec (as it sits now), I have carried out all work, with the exception of the remap, myself. It goes to Audi for servicing only.

* DervTech rolling road remap - 200BHP, 336Ft/Lbs
* Autolights/wipers
* Light up cupholder
* Clearmounts magnetic phone mount
* LED interior lights
* Various VCDS tweaks including CH/LH light, oil temp etc
* AP coilovers
* 19 x 8.5" ET42 Riviera RV135 wheels with 235/35R19 Falken tyres
* Black honeycombe Front grill
* Reiger rear diffuser
* Maxton Design front splitter
* Maxton Design rear spoiler extension
* 15% window tints
* Equipment designation badges deleted
* Carbon rear Audi rings
* Custom built 12" JL Audio sub in ported enclosure with 250W RMS JL Audio amp. This was entirely my design and built. It fits perfectly under the boot floor (which has been raised about 20mm). It connects to the factory wiring harness, and can easily be removed to lower the boot floor, and access the spare wheel and jack.

Here is a pic of the CAD model I generated for the sub, you can see the port and internal structure. I actually changed the design slightly, stepping the cutout for the driver magnet at the bottom to reduce turbulent flow around the driver.
The volume of the enclosure is precisely matched to the driver, and the port is tuned to 28Hz, the Fs of the driver.

Nice work! My favourite thing is the detail of handles to help you lift the sub

In terms of exterior look, I think the standard wing mirrors are letting the side down. I haven't looked to see what's out there/possible, but you might be able to find something that just caps off the car a bit nicer.

Yeah I’ve been thinking about that for a while!
Both my old 8p and the A6 were straight piped!
However that would mean another map, and I don’t think there’s much power to be gained without a bigger turbo! I have also been enjoying the lack of hassle come MOT time, and with the police. I pulled a few times in my A6, it was pretty loud!
All that said, darkside do a very nice DPF delete downpipe...

Interesting car....why did you get a diesel over a 2.0tfsi?

A few reasons, I do a lot of miles (I bought it on 27k in November 2016, it’s on 74k now!), so 55+MPG is awesome, and I really enjoy low down torque. I’ve got a Mk2 mx5 1.8 track/drift car, so this is a lovely contrast!
I have actually been eying up a few 8v S3s, unfortunately I racked up 6 points for speeding in the A6, so insurance is about £2K, whereas the A3 is £550 with all points and mods covered.

Thank you! Yes they are very useful! I even went as far as putting dynamat under the handles to stop any possible rattles.

That would be a nice touch! I have been thinking about wrapping them. If I could find some wrap to match the bronze of the wheels I would like to wrap the mirror casings and the chrome around the windows. It would either look really tacky or perfect!

I’m not into modding or tuning BUT that is one tasty motor. There is a very fine line between tasteful and downright sh!t, but yours is bang on.
