Hey there, considering the figures you lot are posting I think mine must have a problem. I've had it for 8 months and done nearly 9000 miles, the long term average which hasn't been reset at all is showing 23 mpg. I rarely reach the magic 30 mpg, even on a motorway cruise at 70mph. I usually drive it in efficiency and normally get about 260/280 miles from a full tank???
That’s really quite low. I’ve averaged 31.5 over 5k miles , it’s dropped whilst it’s colder outside. Normally it’s in efficient with the odd blast of dynamic .. 75% motorway/ dual carriage way. What types are you running ?

Swapped my A7 for nearly new A6 quattro 2.0 tdi 9 months ago. What a mistake !!! I have ordered my S4 with my eyes completely open and hope to average high 20's/early thirties, whatever.
My current A6 is beautiful and economical, spec'd up to the eyeballs, averaging 38mpg but the engine is mind-numbingly boring. So slow compared to the A7 and sounds like a tractor.
Any money spent on something you don't enjoy is money down the pan.
My S4 will cost a LOT more to run. Fact. But, whilst test driving the S4 I was howling with laughter at the incredible noise. This is NOT something I anticipate growing tired of!!!

So I am a bit concerned with my mpg. I have a 2018 S4 and no matter which driver mode I am in I get 8-15mpg every time. I only use shell 93 fuel. The car currently has 2,000 miles on the odometer and had the oil/filter changed at 1,500 miles. I’ve tried driving like a granny and even with a moderate right foot with no change. I do drive in stop and go traffic on a daily basis and the commute is about 8 miles each way. I do use the manual mode frequently when the engine is warmed up. I’ve recently informed my dealer about this and hoping to hear something back. Seeing all these great mpg’s I am bummed. Granted this is my first Audi, and we are starting to see better weather here in NE.
I think that a lot of us posting mpg are in the UK so our gallons are bigger and makes it look better overall. I’ll easily get 8-10mpg in stop start traffic though, it’s the worst case for these cars. Manual shifting isn’t the most efficient in my experience and you’re best just leaving it in the Auto drive select mode (I’d say Efficiency but I don’t think you guys have that in the US?) if you want to maximise mileage I’d say!

I've had my S4 since March 25th. I drive a mixture of efficiency and dynamic. In dynamic, when I boot it, I can return as low as 11 mpg but, following a recent trip to Devon and back home, around 700 miles, I averaged 42 mpg at an average speed of 58 mph.
Overall, my average, long-term mpg is 28 which I'm more than happy with.
By the way, after trying a number of different fuels, I have settled on Tesco Momentum 99. Brilliant stuff.

We don’t get any of the good stuff here in the US. I’m coming from a long line of standard transmission Japanese cars so the manual shift is so much more fun to me, plus the sounds! Bummer that fuel efficiency takes a huge toll that way. My plan this weekend is to take the car for a nice long drive and avoid stop and go as much as I can, just to test if that truly is my problem. I will keep off the manual for the sake of testing and will chime in if anything seems to be getting better. Aside from that and small list of warranty work, love love the car. Thanks again for the feedback.Status report: S4 saloon on 2k miles, round trip Reading to Manchester on one tank! Used efficiency mode and stayed under 80.
Total miles on one tank = 420. Trip computer reports 35.2mpg so pretty much correct.
I'm delighted with this, the long 8th gear @ <2k RPM engine speed really helps I believe.

Yup, the long 8th gear definitely helps I'd say!
That's decent mpg, I'm sure that it'll go up a little bit as you put some more miles on it as well. Maybe not a lot, but a bit.
Were you running in Efficiency mode out of curiosity? I find that I can get 10-20% better mpg if I do!

Yes indeed. The engine still feels tight will probably need other 3/4k before optimal MPG is possible.
If it helps anyone reading, I ran this car in like all my previous new vehicles: firmly but fairly. I've always found them to make above book power and return the correct economy this way.
Not only that, the octane ratings are lower too. If this makes a significant difference I don't know. I think we were using 85-87 when we were in the states last month compared with 95-99 in the UK.

Just bear in mind that the US measures octane differently so although the numbers look different, the standard grades of fuel (as in, not race fuel or something) are comparable.

On the flip side you guys can get E85 at the pump in some States, that stuff is great for turbo tuning as it has even lower detonation values!
Not to bad, cruise control and lane assist used from Keswick, Cumbria to Clevedon Bristol. 80mph except for average speed zones which I stay at 55mph.
Car also had a boot full of camping stuff 2 dogs me and the Girlfriend.
I was also in individual with everything set to auto except the exhaust

13k miles on the Clock and an average of 25.4 mpg UK. Best I’ve had so far is 32.6, it’s still awesome fun though and the bank manager & I are becoming great friends!

My average across the 9k long term has just creeped up to 28.9. I only use the car on evenings and weekends to get my Speed addition.

currently getting 28mpg average but the car has only done 500 miles, I've had it over 40mpg on a run, I expect to to improve as the engine runs in, still not as economical as my BMW 440i but the engine has more character and the 4WD obviously takes more fuel to run
