Hi all, looking at buying a new double din as my symphony unit has a line of dead pixels and looks naf as a result. I like the look of the custom fit Xtrons units but reviews differ wildly. I dont want to spend a fortune and the rns-e's look like a rip off to me for a ten year old pre-owned unit.

Common faults look to be following for Xtrons:

- Poor radio reception
- DAB not working
- rear speakers volume low

Is this a given or will good install from auto electrician solve problems?

Cheers all....

Hi i have had a xtrons in mine for almost 4 years no problems mine is older so no dab radio reception is fine the rear speaker problem are a wiring issuse with almost any aftermarket H.U not a xtrons only issuse but is easy fix with harness kit.

Cheers Martin. I think most come with ISO harness kit as standard. And 4 times 45 watt output no problem? I guess other potential issue is need for antenna adaptor if you happen to have the non-compatible cable. Guess you don't know til you open it up. I like how xtrons units look oem and have the dials and buttons. Not averse to getting non satnav unit though but seems to be less talk on here in respect of those options. Think there are various kenwood and jvc options around the 160 mark.

I'm going to be fitting the new android 8 xtrons into an S3 8p Wednesday.

Doesn't apoear to be pnp, no sound on 1st plugin, so that's probably the amp signal wire, radio reception doesn't look great ATM, subject to sound & swapping antennas round & to fit dab aswell so I'll report back if I can.

Not to sure on the gui ATM, need fully working & longer test period.

Nav not working currently of which I'm sure will be asap.

I just fitted a decent pioneer unit, its been brill and I cant fault it or its operation, it helps if you get decent fitting / adapter kit aswell.

Pioneer have always been good units, but there price points have always been the issue, but as we always say, you get what you pay for huh.

You got any more information on the harness kit? I'm pretty sure my car is non Bose (as it doesn't say Bose on the speaker grilles) so assuming I will need extra wiring to make the xtrons work in mine?

Mine was all in the box non bose from what ive seen have less problems and are more straoght forward and from what i can remember is if you have low volume from rear speakers its a case of swapping a couple of wire around.

Erisin latest android 8 units are pnp, better than xtrons tbh as I've fitted both & has built in can, no need for external units as supports Bose through quadlock.

Unfortunately I already ordered the xtrons, is it a lot of work to make it work properly?

I done a lot of messing around with car audio in my younger years and bought some bangers where I had to completely rewire the stereo cables to fit an ISO harness so reckon I'd be up to the job but struggling to find a definitive answer to what I actually need to swap around, if anything. I'm reasonably handy with a soldering iron if it comes to it although I'd prefer to avoid that if necessary!

Xtrons should mostly be pnp but they have adapters that just create lack of space, tight fitting & the bose adapter creates interference, none such issues with erisin.

Yeah I did wonder with the huge bundle of cables pictured on the ebay ad how I'm gonna fit them all in...
