I've had my FL saloon now for 5 1/2 months. Only done 3500 miles and I'm getting an oil level warning already. Think I've read somewhere that these cars go through oil faster than most but would appreaciate any opinions.

I might take the opportunity to have the oil and filter changed. Can anyone recommend an oil and which filter would I need?

Thanks in advance :)

Can't say I do. I've never had a car that required the oil level checking more than once a year. I didn't check my last car for 3 years. Level was fine, if not clean :)

If where you......

I’d get into the habit of checking it regular............

We are all different I suppose.

I’d prefer not to wait for the light or lack of light if the sensor wasn’t reading correctly.

Just saying like.

Don't get me wrong, you're right and definitely more sensible than me. Although weekly possibly a little excessive...Surely it can't change much over a week unless doing some serious miles?

I’ve done 4800 miles and my oil level is just a touch below MAX. Seems you have used it awfully fast.

Mine used a litre in just under 5,000 miles - FL, SB.

No leaks, no problems just how much it used. The dealer kindly gave me another 1 litre to see me through to the oil change.

Check mine weekly too, especially coming from that 2.0tfsi in the TTS, that thing would drink oil like an hobo drinks turps :tearsofjoy:

So, I've settled on castrol edge titanium LL 5W-30 for the oil (504 spec). How much do I need?

Also, any ideas what oil filter I need and where I can get one?

That reminds me ......

My last car - a 2013 Audi S5 had an electronic dipstick - so you could check oil level through MMI :icon thumright:

Was then very odd when I got my 2016 RS3 that I was back to a manual dipstick ?

You can't beat the visual method though @Snake Pliskin :friends:

3500 miles for me before dipstick on minimum. It was lucky I checked it as having a light come on is last chance saloon. Oil consumption will probably decrease with mileage.

Surely the light coming on is ample opportunity to top up oil, otherwise what's the point of it? Sure, I'd still check it every 10k miles just in case, but no more.

Well, if mine was on minimum with no light then how much lower would it have gone before the light came on? Not something I would want to do. Also if people are giving you a heads up that these engines burn oil, why insist on only checking every 10,000. Seems pointless to take the risk? Just my thoughts. You do what you do.

Never had to put a drop of oil in the car since I’ve iwned it, even after doing the oil change last month (touch’s wood) check it once a week because of my mammoth weekly mileage

All different I suppose. Ps I was talking about a Face Lift RS3.

I checked mine immediately after the light came on and it was on the minimum mark on the dipstick.

Filter and gasket 06D 115 562 about £11 from TPS or Audi.

I used to check mine weekly but since I found the virtual dipstick it’s a daily task for ‘KIT’

Audi have really covered themselves on oil consumption.

I had my A3 checked, not sure how but they run tests on oil consumption in the workshop. It was going through a litre every 6000 miles.

They said unless it is taking either a litre every 600 miles, they couldn’t do anything and it states this in the manual.

If an engine is consuming a litre every 600 miles, something is wrong.

Yep and only then will Audi admit that.

Read your manual, it either reads a litre of 0.5 of a litre every 600 miles before they are concerned about consumption.

We had one too a while back, I actually spent 30 mins in the engine bay looking for the dipstick!

Thanks for that. I've decided to let the garage do the filter. Gone with an independant specialist as they can fit me in after work.
