SQ5 2018 SQ5

Bit the bullet last weekend and ordered a new SQ5. Took it for a test drive a few weeks back. It drove nice, lacked a bit of power but to be expected I guess. Bolted a some nice extras and expecting it to be delivered sometime in February or sooner.

Anyone else got one or waiting for theirs?

For now this is all I have to look at

Lacked a bit of power..what did you drive before.

So bit of a weird one, Audi have fixed the door locking issue with some updated software from Audi HQ. Something to do with with a software revision for the 2018 cars. We’ll have to see.... I’d like to know if anyone else with an 18 car has the same problem.

I’ve got a 510bhp S3 8P and a 370bhp S3 8V. The SQ has plenty of grunt don’t get me wrong. Although I’m sure it’ll be mapped once Revo or APR release a tune.

Do you have your SQ5 back? Software glitch sounds odd, but at least the didn't have to take anything apart.

They’re dropping it off today, so we’ll see. Apparently a free gift in the boot..... I’m intrigued!

Sorry :whistle2:

They gave us a toy for my 22 month old son. It's a ride on Audi TT (I think) in red. It feels really solid and he loves it!

Not a word of a lie, I was thinking of that exact item!

Clever gift ;)

Cleaned mine today - I have 20’s and am pleased with the comfort of the ride.

I was tempted to get some 21” wheels too - from eBay or somewhere but following a spin out to the country this weekend, our roads are ********! So might leave it.

I like the 20s on your car. Like you I’m sticking with 20s but the stock 5 twin-spokes which I like. If I didn’t like the stock wheels I would have go e for yours or the 21s.

Small update:
So, I've nearly had the the car a month now, not done loads of miles, but after the initial central locking issue the car's been pretty much faultless. The tech in this car is a real step up from the S3 (both high spec cars).
First thing we noticed was how easy it was driving it round town and down country lanes. Never had a large car for a long period of time but it's probably easier driving down the lanes than the S3 as you're much higher up, so the additional width of the car isn't as bad as you'd expect. You naturally give yourself a bit more room though.
The 8 speed gearbox has short gears and it's going to take a bit more time to get used to, but the gear changes are fast, the noises are great especially in dynamic. Everyone comments on how good it sounds pulling away. But I need to code out whatever it is coming through the speakers (and i'm sure something is now I've adapted to the standard noises in the cabin). It appears you can set the car up in individual mode, but I think it does something to the exhaust note on the outside of the car too. I'm yet to tinker properly.
As expected the interior is a really nice place to be. No rattles and the build quality is nearly spot on. My only gripe are the interior door handles, the plastic looks and feels a bit cheap and over time i'll be surprised if they don't mark quite badly.
Distronic (or whatever Audi call it) is kinda cool. You set the desired speed and distance you want to remain from the car in front and it keeps to it. I use it whenever I can. My wife keeps telling me the car keeps driving itself including the steering despite the system being turned off so I need to find out whats going on. It's never done it to me and our settings are the same. And I didn't think I ordered anything that steered but whatever it is I need to figure it out.
The Matrix lights are awesome, I just go full beam everywhere and it sorts it out. Down the back lanes it lights up everything in site and dips sections when you come across cars. It even creates beams around cars in front going the same direction as you and you end up brightening up the road up for them. It must look weird from the car in front.
The B&O stereo is really good, i jump in the S3 (also with B&O) and it sounds like a set of tinny speakers.
Not a lot else to say.... I'll take some more pics when I give it a wash :thumbs up:

My main recollection from the fading memory of my test drive is exactly what you describe about it being a bigger car than the S3 (or Merc GLA that I drives) but that the ability to place the car with confidence is very good. My wife has been banging on at me all the time we’ve had our GLA that we should have the SUV driving position. Can you quantify how much of a compromise it has made to driving dynamics compared to your S3?

I had a thread going about the presence of any artificial engine noise from the cars speakers and the consensus appeared to be that there was none. It’s interesting that you suspect otherwise, let us know how that turns out. Again my fading memory of my test drive is punctuated by the exhaust note being awesome, god to hear the same opinion :)

I thought the door handles were metal with a plasticky coating, maybe they are just plastic. As you say that will be a bit annoying.

I’ve got very used to Mercedes Distronic and fully planned to use Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) a lot on the SQ5. Have you used Traffic Jam Assist yet? It will keep the car in lane up to 40mph when it can see road markings (it is part of the Tour Pack). Odd that your partner thinks the car is driving itself sometimes, maybe the wider wheels are tram-lining a bit and giving he impression of steering input. Do you have the Dynamic Steering option?

I’m looking forward to the Matrix LEDs. I like your description that the SQ5 LEDs wrap around he car in front, improving their illumination without blinding them from behind!

Long ago I compromised and got a standard Audi sound system on an A5 Sportback. I always promised myself that I wouldn’t do the same on another Audi if I could afford it. Glad to hear I’m in for an audio treat!

I look forward to your longer updates :)

So I've not really pushed the SQ5 but it seems to handle the twisties well. It rides the bumpy roads better than the S3. There's definitely more of a push from the rear which is surprising. I enjoy fast junctions from a standstill, it wants you to boot it and you can pull out in the middle of fast traffic.

Rear bias torsion system. I def noticed the difference.

I can get the traction light on booting it with the wheel not straight... :)

@mxnrg any news on your SQ5 arrival?

Nope, talked to the dealer a week ago and no idea why it has sat in Emden for two weeks (Status ‘38’). Will call again at the weekend. Got bored of tracking Emden to Sheerness ships with no status changes.

Current car goes back on the 11th May, so it looks like I’ll be without a car for some time as a two week turnaround from today would be quicker than average...

Not much point getting annoyed as I do have the use of another car if the SQ5 is delayed.

Checked my order form and they have to supply my car by June 28th otherwise I have the right to cancel the order. Since I have the 2017 price with discount and finance rate agreed I wouldn’t walk away at this point...

will be worth the wait, as you will ultimately be getting a cracking car. I am really hoping I can stretch to SQ5 in a couple years, as have loved since I drove the Gen1 on an Audi experience day. Please remind us of your spec again?

Fully loaded, easier to tell you the options I didn’t tick ;)

Daytona/Black leather/Carbon Atlas/20” standard wheels

All factory options *apart* from:
Dynamic Steering
Electric Steering Adjustment
Tow Bar
Red Break Callipers

Am getting the Audi UTR front + rear added by the dealer as well. Reminding me about the spec has cheered me up :D Thanks!

How much is the dealer charging you to fit the cameras?

I'm seriously thinking about having this done on mine.

No, whats that about?

The ‘Phone Booster’ that amplifies the mobile signal from a phone in the glovebox to the roof antenna is not compliant with Ofcom specifications. New cars are being delivered with it unplugged while Audi work out a fix. Seems to have messed up delivery of UK Audi’s across the board... You are lucky your car missed this nonsense.

RRP is £565 inc. VAT. I asked my dealer to do me a deal, no price confirmed yet. Will pass on what I manage to haggle.

Is that rrp of cameras and labour, or just the labour?

I believe that is the fitted price. I think you can get the UTR kit for around £300 if you want to try and fit it yourself.

Hmm, don’t really fancy ripping out trim for my 2018 Q5.

Forgot I don’t have Head Up Display either, £900 was too much and not many know that it needs a special windscreen.
