Facelift Exhaust valves

Love the exhaust sound in auto-sport mode when in Dynamic, but would love the same level of exhaust noise when driving in manual. Is there any way of coding it to have the exhaust valves open like in auto S whilst driving in manual?

I thought the exhaust valves are defaulted to open above 3000rpm only.
You can unplug them and buy plug in modules and have a lot more noise this way but you will get a slight drone.

You can definitely hear the valves opening around 3-4000 rpm when in manual or drive, but when it auto s it is much much louder and valves seem to be open all the time, and that's the only mode that I get any crackles on downshifts, I'd just like to have the same level of sound whilst changing the gears myself in manual.

I know what you mean here... mine is the same, in Auto-S the crackles are there, pop it into manual and they’re not so much even at the same revs

I have the valves permanently open and it makes no difference here mate, so back to the drawing board

I can’t remember the thread but somewhere I know a few of you guys like to put it into neutral while driving so its does the bangs...

I tried this and its tricky - I kept putting it into reverse by accident ! I didn’t do it fast (and interestingly it didn’t actually go into reverse). But even when I did get neutral it did nothing. No pops or bangs.

I guess there is technique to it? But what is it?

You don't need to press the locking mechanism on the gearstick to change from D/S to N, just push it slightly forward, that way you got no chance of putting it into reverse.

I own a PFL and have the valves unplugged. On this model the bark and the crack up the upshifting and downshifting is Louder I think when I’m in manual dynamic than if I was in auto ‘S’ mode. Maybe the way Audi have mapped the software on this box compared to your ones perhaps?

As you say mate... I think it’s all done to the mapping, and how the car is programmed to ‘react’ in each mode differently

Can any tuners like MRC change the exhaust sound levels when you get a stage 1?

They don’t have a map to change the exhaust sound but once they remap the engine it sounds like a animal. My FL sounds like a PFL is the best way to describe it

All this time I've been thinking that my car was in Dynamic upon start-up, if it was set as that the previous time I drove it. I've just realised that you have to cycle through the modes and re-select Dynamic again every time you start the car, otherwise it will actually be in comfort! Now when driving in manual I get the full sound and crackles on downshifts just like when in auto-S. Problem solved and I'm now happy with the sound of the car.

LOL you must have been doing some serious self justification about why everyone says its loud when it isn't for you. Maybe you thought you had hearing problems

Who says it pops and crackles in neutral?

You need to understand what the pops and crackles are. They are caused by the afterburn of unwanted fuel [usually] when lifting off the power such as downshifts. So if you want the pops and crackles, put the engine into dynamic then make burst of power and immediately shift down...

I think he meant putting it into neutral whilst slowing down. I've done so once and it caused very loud pops and bangs, very satisfying really. I don't really want to do it again though as I've heard it can confuse the gearbox and potentially cause damage if done too frequently.
