Where to go after the S5?

I've had my Audi S5 now since November and quite frankly, I love it. Mostly on the weekends, where I can actually utilise the car a bit more in terms of it's performance. But after going to the BMW garage this weekend to look at the M140i for my other half, I sat in an (M3 Competition Pack) and got thinking, what's next? Early days of course and the rapid nature of the Automotive industry will be sure to have lots of different vehicles. But I'm unsure of where to go, what have you guys thought about going for next?

The new M5 looks pretty mean, but I would go for a RS6.

Can imagine the new RS6 is going to be very punchy. (That being they keep the V8)

I’d have an RS6 as well but that would be a good few years away yet for me. It’s a big car though and there are a few width restrictions round my way.

The RS6 is an awesome machine. With or without a V8, any new model will exceed the previous like the B9 S5 did.

True it is a big car, but if you want great performance with a family and all the kit in tow, this is the one. IMO the RS4 estate just doesn't quite cut it as I now get the same performance as the RS4/5 from my upgraded B9 S5 SB at a fraction of the cost.

Not unless it's a Panamera 4S variant, all the 4's are slower than the B9 S5. Also prices START at around 90k!

Every car mentioned above is considerably more expensive than the S5 so it really depends on how your budget shifts. If your budget remains the same then you'll most likely be looking at the S5 facelift when it comes or the next generation BMW 440i (or what ever equivalent engine designation it comes with at that time). Alfa Guila Veloce is also getting very favourable reviews and the New Merc C43 will be out in a couple of years.

RS6 and Porsche Panamera will be considerably more as will the M5 which is nearly double the price.

Car ownership has changed an awful lot from the old HP concept being the only option.

You've had quite the collection, what do you usually look for when purchasing a new car?

BMW should be doing a M340i and a M440i in the new G20 shape which should be interesting, not out until back end of next year though I think.

I don't dislike the Tesla & it's dam quick, but having driven one I just don't like the silence and would prefer an exhaust note. Also, another issue is that minor body damage can write off the car due all the sensors etc making it apparently too expensive to repair!

You've had quite the collection, what do you usually look for when purchasing a new car?

Depends on what I had last. I NEVER buy the same marque twice in a row. I like a new car to feel new and different. What I go for very much depends on my budget at the time and what I was driving before. If it helps here's my reasons for changing the ones that I did:

Audi TT - Was a company car and the company went bust.
Scirocco - Went into business for myself and decided to lease a cheaper and more practical TT - hence the Scirocco
Audi A5 - At the end of the Scirocco lease I fancies a big coupe and though I'd try a diesel. My car is well documented on here. Did a lot mods, hated the manual gearbox coupled with a low reving diesel engine and had loads of faults and problems.
BMW M3 - My income had a grown a bit and there was good deals to be had on the M3. Couldn't afford an RS5 and didn't want to go from one A5 to another.
Maserati Ghibli - Had another kid, decided to go for a practical saloon car. Ordered a Merc CLS 350. Car fell through and got a good deal on the Masser. At that point buyers fatigue had set in and I just wanted a ****** car. Quite enjoyed the Maserati for what it was, but vowed never to go for another diesel.
Golf R - Ordered an S5. Got fed up waiting for it and decided to downsize a bit. Bought the Golf. Spent a fortune on it and then realised that a 40 year old MD looks like a bit of a **** getting out of a souped up boy-racer mobile in the office car park.
M6 - Loved it. Amazing machine. Coming out of warranty and the impending release of the 8 series made me start to get itchy feet and I also missed having something as chuckable as the Golf. Worth noting that of all my cars to date the 2 BMWs are the only two that have never had any issues.
RS5 - saw some chatter online about good deals to be had and managed to secure a 20% discount on a new car by haggling for sport. Then found myself committed. Fancied something that I could through around B roads, drive in winter and that would see the backwheels spin up whenever I put the foot down.

I've no idea what I'll buy next. Will see what's around when I get there. After changing my last few cars in rapid succession I hope to keep this one for a while.

TESLA's are NOT for me. They look like they were designed by Ikea. The germans will catch up and then Tesla will be in trouble.
