Hello, I was wondering if there is a way to upgrade the MMI on my vehicle, I have got the A7 218 S-line edition 2015 model. I really wanted to have the sat nav display on the dashboard like the one I put picture of.

Is this related to MMI version? If so does anybody know how much it would cost for me to get it done from Audi or someone where else? I asked the sales assistant team but they where clueless and I am waiting for the service department to get back to me.

Audi won’t help you.

Anything is possible. At a cost. I would estimate ballpark maybe £3k+

The whole MMI solution was upgraded with the facelift A7 (MMI2) Are you in a facelift A7? 2015 was the crossover year...

Sorry for my ignorance but I don't if it was, the car was regestered on 20 Jun 2015. Hopefully you might be able to tell me, is there anything in the car that will tell me that the car is face lift?

As above, my understanding is the sat nav between the dials is part of the technology pack which essentially is a different mmi system altogether to what you have

I believe the facelift started from Sep 2014 onwards (64 plate onwards). Mines a 64 but a facelift and registered in November 2014.
Also the 218 was part of the facelift replacing ....the 204?
Dynamic lights were also standard on the facelift from memory

It's my mistake I should of look closely. This car was the best one that matched my budget. I wonder if I could find this package online somewhere or any Audi services even though RAF said they won't help me.

The facelift A7 has the sweeping rear indicators, and if you look under the front armrest you should have 2x USB sockets, not the older AMI socket.

This would be quite a complex upgrade as well as expensive. The older MMI doesn’t support feeding 2 video screens simultaneously.

I think @badger5 or @DJAlix would be better placed to offer you advice on how feasible this is.

Funny enough, the car got sweeping rear indicators but has no USB, has the AMI socket and a charger for the iphone,

not a big problem. I literally picked the car up today. Just a good car especially going from a 2012 A6 2.0 to an A7 3.0. I was worried about the A7 being 218 PS but its more than enough. especially it being ultra.

Ah, so your probably on the older MMI Low system which is quite basic. Do you have any Satnav (SD card based)?

So you would be looking at the MMI2 control unit (the in-dash part) Probably replacement clocks/dash with video centre panel, and you would also need the touch panel control, so a new gear stick surround and any associated cabling. You may get away with the existing pop up screen, but you probably have the smaller lower resolution one. I’m not sure if that would be an issue....
You would then need component protection removed by someone with the right kit.

Generally, Audi dealers won’t undertake any modifications at all.

If you have a friendly parts department they might assist with parts (hint - find an A7 with what your looking for, and use it’s registration number to ID the parts needed. Autotrader is a good place to look!). You might find a good independent who would be willing to assist.

Thank you very much RAF. I appreciate the help mate. I had one question. Is these one of them parts that is very important? Do you use it? If you was in my situation would you invest money into this? In my perspective I just want it because of the sake of being new etc. I don't really need it but its in back of my head.

I’m pretty sure that individually the parts would be unusable. All or none l think.

When I bought my A7 (now gone) the first think I did was fit a reversing camera. If you don’t have that, l would strongly recommend. It’s very difficult to judge the length when parking, not helped by the narrow view out the back window.

I would invest in one of those to start with if you don’t already have!

How much did the rear camera cost you RAF?

Wish the people who built our car had this added in one of the packages as it would help greatly.

Ours is the 66 plate A7 Black edition

Sorry for the delayed reply, been travelling.

Dealer fit, including all parts was £950.

They do regularly come up on eBay, if you keep an eye out.

It may be worth dropping a message to @DJAlix who does these things on a regular basis.

You can DIY it to a point, but like most electronics on these cars, there is something called component protection, which basically locks any new part introduced to the car, and needs unlocking either by a dealer, or someone like. Alix.

@RAF_S7 what is the picture quality like (see my previous thread about the **** poor quality of my front and rear cams 'imo') with aftermarket?

I'd be interested to see a photo, if it reasonable I'd consider upgrading the camera if it can be coded.

Thanks in advance

Hi Steve,

I actually went with OEM on the A7 rear and it was fine.

I have them on the F&R of the S7. From previous reading, I understand that if you go F&R, the cameras are digital, if you go rear only the camera is analogue. Not sure how true that is mind....

Ive not used aftermarket eBay specials, so can't comment, sorry.

John.

Thanks, I have F&R but they are pss poor, in the F11 I could read a number plate @ 20m in this I struggle to identify the car @ 20m

In the F11 I changed a side view camera because it was a bit blurry, in hindsight it was better than this.

Ah well.
