So I just noticed a blister has appeared on the tyre wall on the front offside. Anyone else had this happen? I haven't hit anything so can't think what would have caused it. Audi suggest I contact Pirelli themselves to see if they would sort me out with a new tyre as the car has only covered 3k miles... :(

I had one the same on my RS3 with Michelin tyres fitted. I got ATS to send it back to be analysed (cut open) and the report came back as "pinch damage". It is when the tyre is partially run up the side of a pothole and this causes an extremely large load to be applied to the sidewall which causes this failure.

I can see if I can find the report I got back from Michelin when I get home tonight if you want more info.

Your only choice is to replace it and get it sent to Pirelli for testing, you may get a gesture of goodwill if you are lucky.

Here is a picture of mine, your picture shows it much better.

I lost one too after about 3 weeks after hitting a pothole - same bulge in the tyrewall.

Same here, switched to conti's 5p.

Pirelli sidewall is VERY thin

I don't recall hitting a pot hole but you just never know with the state of our roads in the UK! :( Thanks for the replies - will try the route suggested and have it returned to Pirelli to see what they say.

Are the Pirellis fitted by Audi run flat does anyone know? I can't seem to find anything on them which suggests they are but wanted to check as there's 2 options when searching for the P Zeros.

They are not runflats.

+1 As others have posted . I know you said you are sure you did not hit a pot hole but I got exactly the same bulge when running through one .
Thankfully like yours I didn't damage the wheel.

Anyone has fitted runflat's on they RS3? Maybe the problema with the delicate sidewall will be solved.

You need special rims to mount runflat tyres too.

Runflats are extremely heavy and may give a very harsh ride, not sure if road noise will be transferred

Find the pothole that "you hit" and measure the size and depth, take a number of photos, call and get an incident number then put the claim in, you may be asked to provide the tyre and report as evidence.
I have just damaged two wheels and tyres, I'm claiming for about a grand including four wheel alignment, that's before I discovered that a wheel bearing has started to hum.
The roads are atrocious, someone compared them to a golf course, 18 holes in each, the tax to use them is soaring, there is corruption and we are paying through the nose!!!

I lambasted my Councillor last week pointing out how much tax I am being raped for on the new car. Their inadequate response was -

'The harsh weather has affected road surfaces. However, in defence of the Borough, £50 million. is being spent over 5 years to repair and resurfaced roads and pavements in Barnet. We have perhaps the longest road network of any London Borough; to repair every one of these thorofares is a tough challenge. Neighbouring authorities’ roads are no better and often worse.

The tax/expenses you list in the purchase of your motor car are raised by HMG, not Barnet, and disappear into HM Treasury. Rate Support Grant, ie the funds provided by HM Treasury to local authorities are doled out in decreasing quotas annually. Barnet, considered a ‘rich’ authority, receives less than half per capita than, say, Camden, a ‘poor’ authority. The disparity with central boroughs is even starker. As it is, most Barnet’s income derives, nowadays, from council tax which we strive to spend thriftily.

Thank you for troubling to write in.'

Not adequate at all in my mind and, in any event, he is unlikely to be thanking me for my response any time soon........

It is very unfortunate that some have had to resort to this http://wanksy.mycindr.com/ but, if this is the only way, then, so be it, what about a few names painted to speed this up a bit?
I have cyclist's, cars and trucks swerve to avoid potholes onto my side of the road, this issue can also cause death, the cost of insurance is about to sky rocket too because of this!!!

Whilst the Wanksey (lol) approach is tempting, Fixmystreet.com is probably more effective. I understand that the Council that 3 days to fix the pothole or become fully liable for the cost of any damage incurred. Also, I don't think enough people are fighting for cost of repairs following damage - if they start bleeding cash for successful claims then they will take a bit more of an interest in the state of the roads.

I will be sticking to Pirelli regardless.

Just clipped a kerb in a totally ridiculously tight car park ramp, I tackled about 8 and went wrong on the last but one. Drove for half an hour imagining the sight of pure hell but I’m totally blown away to see not a blemish on the wheel. This was on the 235/35/19 rear tyre so a bit chunkier but the full height of the Tyre side wall has been scrubbed and my alloy would have brunted that if it wasn’t for the kerb protection lip.

The car crabbed across when I clipped it, thank you Pirelli. Tyre gods. :)

That is a result . That feeling after you have made contact but not yet stopped to check the damage , it’s the worst . I don’t do multi storey car parks anymore . And don’t get me started on how ridiculously tight Gatwick airport parking is .

That car park is a nightmare - last time I parked there I received 2 door dings and a suitcase obviously dragged down the side.

I know it was awful. Reason I didn’t stop is the girlfriends parents were following and I didn’t want the humiliation so long faced the 30 minute drive.. had to pretty much drag myself out of the car to look and when I only saw a clean patch on the tyre I was honestly blown away, relief will never be the word.

My Mrs’ said it sounded like the tyre but I refused to believe that because the whole car moved... anyway, I’ve slept since and my heart has just about recovered. Fingers crossed I don’t pick up on anything now when I’m washing it.

We went into Haverfordwest and having planned my parking, when I arrived it wasn’t obvious it was a dive but too late with the in-laws behind. Never. Again. Hope my Mrs’ took in the sights, because we are never going back :lmfao:

That’s me never parking in Gatwick with the RS3 :) We went from there in February and took the Corsa, used APH P&R.

Corsa will be used for our next holiday out of Luton and then Manchester I’ve found two family owned P&R’s I like the sound of. One has said they will let me park my car next to their RS4 and classic R32 and take my keys, sold.

The Luton short stay is fine - just go high enough up and there is no-one there.

I also damaged the side wall hitting a pothole similar to g5und the tyre was almost new only worn by 1mm, replacing the two fronts with MPS4.

You "must" claim, get the suspension checked, the steering checked, the ABS system checked, a four wheel alignment done, headlight alignment, go to the physio, check for damage to your back and send in the bill, let your local politician know! Someone is going to have a head on collision, cars, trucks and bicycles are swerving all over the roads to avoid the mess that's everywhere, even the motorway is riddled with potholes, our insurance is going to rocket...

Most of the roads around me , Surrey , south London , no go areas for the rs now especially after dark . Helpful that they have visited all the holes and sprayed red paint on them. Shame no one has actually followed it up and repaired them . Good luck with claiming off the council whilst I agree 100% life’s to short in my opinion . Just thankful I only did the tyre not the rim .

As you can see by the attached image of my claim, yes they do, you need to get a claim number then you can proceed, take photos, use a tape measure in the pictures to show the depth and radius, the position on the road too, you need three estimates or a copy of the repair/s bill, we are being ripped off, we are entitled to have have our vehicles repaired that have been damaged using the roads that we pay for although the funds are going somewhere else and not used in the maintenance of the existing mess.
They are only interested in taking our money off us, they want us to cough up for everything they can, I've had enough, I fight congestion charges that I accidentally incurred, and parking tickets, so far successful. I do try to abided with the "rules" of the road but it can be difficult.
My claim is for two wheels, two tyres, a wheel repair just to get me back on the road, a four wheel alignment and since I've sent my estimate in I've now discovered a wheel bearing has started to hum, so I'm furious as you can see.
Also my wife has damaged three tyres, I have also broken a spring on my present Audi and as we know two springs must be fitted at the same time and on my previous Audi a spring also got broken, those repairs came out of my bank account, but no more!

I claimed for the damage I received in January and have received the standard rejection letter - i.e. we inspected the road in April and October and no defects were observed - claim rejected. The only problem they have is that a Google streetview pic of the road in June 2017 clearly shows the defect - I have just pointed this fact out to them together with the screenshot. I will take this to the small claims and roger them unless they fold.

To be fair, it is not the money but the principal - the roads are a disgrace and those responsible for the upkeep hide behind a wall of b/s.

Do you have your own evidence of the crater and damage including Photos and measurements etc?

Your photographs have information in their properties, time and date are the important information, you have the evidence, they are making you out as a lier, if it were me I would threaten them, sorry warn them that they have been given the facts, your time is expensive and you have no choice but to charge by the hour, £100 is a good start, any solicitors fees be on top of your charges, mention all names in each response, they will pay up, I'd forget about the small claims court for the moment, put the pressure on, with all responses quote everything, all details time after time including the names of the "people" who have been dealing with, and keep us informed of the progress!!!
Oh yes - it was a whopper -

View attachment 154271

The standard response from the Council is to say we inspected the road on xx date and all was fine - in my case, inspections in April and October 2017. However, Streetview shows the defect to be present in June 17 so, clearly, their inspections are not carried out properly -

You are very limited in costs recovery in a Small Claims Court - probably the application fee is all you would get in costs and they would know it was all b/s. Don't worry - I know exactly the buttons to push!

That pothole was over 200mm deep as you can see from the packet of tabs I chucked in there for perspective. What a disgrace.

Other half must have hit a pothole too, but didn’t realise...

Must've been a hell of a thud to do that.

Are the Pirelli stock fitted tyres more prone to this or just a reflection of the poor roads in the UK? Anyone in a RS3 on other branded tyres suffering the same blisters / bulges ??
