So I like to plan ahead.
Will probably get another new car about this time next year.
Love my S3, which I bought new just over 3 years ago.

So I’m looking around and thinking of options. Kind of think I will stay with the Audi marque......no reason not to. Question is, RS3 or S4 (either will be well spec’d).

Think that puts me off the RS3 is that the 8v will be coming to the end of its life next year, so risk it being obsolete. Thing against the S4 is that it’s perhaps more of an ‘old man’s car’.......however, I do actually fall into that category :haha:

Apologies for a bit of a random post, but just wanted to get a a few opinions on this.

Personally, I'd move to the S4 next as I think the RS3 will be abit 'same' coming from the S3. However, if you're looking at the S4 you might want to consider the following aswell...

Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG

Yer a bit premature mate a year is a long time in the car industry so lots of new cars can appear oot the woods, the current A4/S4 will be face lifted next year. ... There's nothing out there that remotely interesting for under £50k

The new A3/S3 will be released some time in 2019 so it might be worth waiting to see what Audi do with it. It will quite possible have all the new 'electronics' that have been included in the new A7.

If they are not selling to many and there are good discounts I could be interested in the next few months, not that bothered by engine sound, would buy a silent all electric jobby if it had the right performance and handling

I am in the same boat, test drove an Rs3 saloon and s4 back to back and fell in love with the RS3. The rs3 just has so much character and emotion about it. The s4 was lovely but more of a sedate cruiser, when you plant the throttle you don,t get the surge of power like you do with the s3/rs3.

I have been going through a similar process over the last 3 months... The S3 is a great car and right up there with regards to bang for your buck and practicability ( I need 4-5 seats ). But I wanted more character and emotion from my car without turning it into something from a demon tweeks / halfords catalog special.

The RS5 is a great looking car, but it is a large car with v limited rear passanger space ( I was shocked when I sat in the back! ) and a half decent specced car is pushing 80- 85k. The RS4 is similar but with more practicaility but once again its a large car with a v large price tag, also not sold on the new V6 sound. The S4/S5 make more sense financially, but for me I was after more emotion and character than the S models seem to provide.

Staying with the Audi range....The FL RS3 ticks the emotion / character box with the sports exhaust ( 5 clc engine sounds amazing ), its still practical for most situations and with the added benefit of the Virtual Cockpit and updated MMI bringing gadegt end of things bang upto date. Its around 80kg lighter than the PFL car with around 30kg reduced by changing the iron engine block to aluminium... so it drives better than a PFL car. Yes it will be replaced, but not before 2020/2021 in reality... Its still a winner for me!

Huge jump in car league terms S3 - RS5... .
Besides Audi are steadily getting more boring in their cars design so my next car won't be one

Massive jump, double the price as well.

I can’t see my next one being an Audi either unless they throw a silly deal at me. I’m VR’ing the S3 when it’s possible to and getting a run around. Scratched my S3 itch, once that’s done I’m going for something like a GTD with lower running costs. I’ve craved an S3 for years and now I’ve got it I’m bored after a year.

I was bored silly in a matter of months with my last S3 mate but not so with this one I have just now, but in general l know Audi won't have a car in there model range l want and that l can afford the next time around 18 months from now

Yeah they do have such a thing l could get one at cost price, Audi don't have a scheme at all, either that go back to Ford ie new Focus ST3

I often wonder if I could be content with a Golf GTi.
The current model can look very nice.
The new platform model could be a great car with even more power.
Agree the Focus ST is also good value for money and a nice looking car and could be worth a look next year.

I like the look of the GTI, especially the Performance. The VW alloy choices are so much nicer than Audi’s. Only thing I don’t like is the dash but I could live with that if get a GTD for commuting in.

I’m sure I read the next gen GTI is going to include hybrid tech.

COST...... hello M3 ;-)

ST’s are nice, I’ve never driven one but people always rave about the handling. Would you consider an RS focus?

Just looked at some ST3’s on autotrader, for similar money as GTD’s you can get some real good bargains with less than 30k on the clock.

Another to add to the 12 month shopping list...

A stinger have you how much they cost on a pcp deal .. ..
Just about to say the same...I did a comparison a while back: Kia Stinger for £1,000 deposit and £577 per month, or my A5 coupe for £1,000 deposit and £380 per month!!!

If they are not selling to many and there are good discounts I could be interested in the next few months, not that bothered by engine sound, would buy a silent all electric jobby if it had the right performance and handling

Really good lease deals just been realised on the S4 this week, cheaper than S3 SB by about £40pm!

Fair enough, I do like all the M cars except the M version of the 4x4’s, Range Rovers when every day.

Really liking the look of the RS5 now.......about £11k more than my RS3 spec and it’s a lot of car. Bit more than I wanted to pay, but worthy of consideration I think.

Yes mate. Truth is I have no idea what car I will get next other than possibly a next gen S3.

I’ve alwsys had my eye on what’s next and always know previously but this time I’m not sure where to go from the RS3

Fortunately I do really like the car & miraculously am not bored of it lol after 2 years ... so will keep my eye open but I must admit not being desperate to change is a nice unique feeling !

If my new contract lasts 5-6 months I might just buy one......12 months and it might be a Panamera 4S, I can dream after I saw a brand new one today in the flesh for the first time and thought I like the backside on that and pretty decent from the front as well
