Dan's B9 S4 Avant Thread

Just a nice quick and easy upgrade to the S4 this morning because I’m bored waiting for the exhaust and Eibach springs to arrive...

Haven’t had much of a chance to really listen yet. Not a massive difference revving it while stationary but might be different under load.

Just as an update.

When I accelerated in second gear I got decent turbo whistle and then a hiss from the BOV. Not really tried it much previously but I definitely like the way it sounds now, if it sounded like that before then I’m pretty impressed!

How’s the Milltek progress Dan?

It was supposed to be fitted on Friday but wasn’t dispatched in time! So now supposed to be this coming Friday. Hopefully.

Lowering springs fitted though, eibach pro-kit. I’ll get some proper photos once it’s cleaned up a bit and settled.

Looks very nice lowered. How does it ride? I’d like to go 20” wheels and lower it around 20mm.

My PFL RS3 crashes over train tracks/potholes. I understand that things will firm up with my intended set up, however if it’s similar to my RS3, I won’t do it.

I’d say it actually rides as good if not better than standard springs to be honest. It’s about 20mm drop on these springs which I think is enough for everyday use.

I really wouldn’t say it gets crashy or anything, feels very compliant normally but corners nice and flat once the springs are loaded up.

Where did you order springs from Daggerit?

And can I ask what spacers and a source?
I’m tempted to order from ecs in us as they have a sale on see if I get lucky on the exchange and the tax

The springs came from Graeme at GNJ Motorsport, if you give them a shout at least he'll know what he's ordering for you. I went for the Pro-Kit which isn't as extreme of a drop and I think it sits perfect for everyday use.

Spacers were bought second hand from folk on here I believe. One pair is Eibach and one is H&R I think, both with extended bolts. You can use B8/8.5 S4 spacers (as I've done) as all the dimensions are the same, that makes it much easier to find a decent option and will save you having to source from the US.

Magic cheers man. I’ll see what I can find for spacers was thinking 10mm all round.

Didn’t think eibach done s4 springs so good to know cheers for that

Oh and the cars cracking did you get Wing wrap replaced? Ok underneath.

Sounds good. You can fit 12mm spacers with no issues if you want to push the wheels out as far as possible, 10mm is a more standard size though I think. The springs are billed as A4 springs but I know a good few folk with them on their S4's, including me, with no issues. It appears that the springs are interchangeable provided the engines are similar weights. Part number is E10-15-023-02-22 for the same as mine.

Thanks very much! Not had it replaced yet as my wrapper has been on holiday and then busy. I'm booked in with him on the 16th to get it sorted though. I don't think that it's gone through to the paint thankfully but we'll have to look once the wrap comes off.

so hows the exhaust?

It’s really good thanks. It’s hard to capture the tone change on video because it’s gone very deep which sounds great and doesn’t drone at all, surprisingly enough. The valve switch is now very noticeable and you get some much better pops and crackles on does Hofer and over run as well.

Only two issues so far. First is that I had to leave the shop before we fully adjusted it so it’s got a slight rattle that we’re sorting quickly on the 5th (very slight but very annoying). Second is that in anything but dual carriageway cruising my mpg has taken a hit. Mainly because I don’t drive it very efficiently so I can hear the exhaust.

Hey guys,

As is the norm, I thought that I'd go ahead and announce my order for a new S4 that will hopefully be arriving in September since I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Very excited!

Spec is as follows:

Floret silver S4 Avant
Black interior
Adaptive suspension
Advanced key with hands free boot opening
Virtual cockpit
B&O
Black styling pack
Badge delete from the rear
Folding mirrors
Driver assistance pack - Tour
Flat bottomed steering wheel
Hill hold
Carbon inlays
Matrix lights
Privacy glass
Sports diff
Boot rail system
Rear view camera
Red callipers
Storage pack
19" S4 alloys

Hopefully should manage to get it as the new plates are released.

How long did everyone have to wait for the myAudi details so I can start being super impatient and tracking the car? Haha.

Dan

My RS4 order took 3 weeks to show. 3 November order. Build week start 15 January.

Any pics? :d

A couple quick snaps this morning since I cleaned it yesterday and it’s likely as clean as it’ll be for a while.

Yeah, mine was stuck on when I received it from my dealership but wasn’t done great so when it was removed for wrapping the car it was stuck back on using some better adhesive pads. I think it was just stuck using some thicker pads if I remember rightly but I’ll try to ask him today when I see him.

Haha. They actually look a bit big in pictures compared to when you see them in person. I barely notice them when I walk up to the car now but when I look at that they look like they’re stick out like a sore thumb!

Thanks. Yeah mine came stuck on but was wonky and fell off and then where the screw holes are on the car they kind of protrude outwards so the dealer told me I had to use a backing plate. Which I don’t think looks anywhere near as good imo.

Hey Dan

Car looking great.

Did you go for the non-res system?

I’m looking at the resonated system as don’t want to go too much louder than stock, hoping it has a richer tone etc.

Also the issues with the poor quality chrome tips need to go!

May I ask if this affected your insurance premium by much or if any?

I did go for the non-red system. I was originally wanting the resonated system but when shown the sound levels as measured I changed my mind as the resonated system was essentially exactly the same as OEM and I wanted it a bit louder.

It’s definitely not boy racer loud or anything, just a nice deep burble over stock. I haven’t heard the res system but I imagine it would be the same volume as the stock system but with a significantly deeper tone is all.

I did it online and gave the value of the exhaust as £0 since I’d gotten it free from the development and my insurance didn’t go up at all, which was certainly a welcome surprise!

Hi Dan,

I gather you are enjoying the non-res exhaust. Is there any drone when cruising on the motorway?

Yeah I’m definitely enjoying it, gives it way more character than the stock system.

No drone on the motorway. Only time I notice it is when it goes uphill at about 1500-2000 rpm and you get a deep sound from it in the cabin, but it’s not drone I wouldn’t say.
