Retrofit folding door mirrors. Audi S3 MY18.

Good evening everyone,

I've just collected my brand new Navarra Blue Audi S3 with quite a considerable amount of options. It had just arrived at a dealer in Exeter so I had to rush down and get the car, only to get there and realise the one thing it didn't have was folding door mirrors. I slipped up and should of checked the specification sheet not presumed it had it along with everything else. Therefore, I'm trying to get them retrofitted and reached out to Vag Car Coding but hes not replying so hopefully someone can give me the answer and point me in the right direction of how to get it done.

Would someone who has had the folding door mirrors retrofitted confirm they dip on reverse and lock with the key fob? I have also seen mentioned that the auto dimming function is only on the drivers side now. Is that true? Can you even retrofit the auto dimming function without spending £1000's.

I apologise if this has already been asked but before posting I did look high and low through the forum to find a definitive answer but I haven't found it yet.

Yes even if you dont have folding door mirrors, with VCDS or something similar Car Ista or something like that you can code the PASSENGER mirror only to dip down when its in reverse and when you put it back into drive it would put it into its normal position. Even with retrofitting folding mirrors like I have I can still have passenger mirror dip./

Thanks for reply. Correct me if im wrong does that mean the dimming glass is pre-installed by Audi on the drivers side only? Which would mean I would just have to purchase new glass for passengers side. Might save me some money!

Unfortunately not . It would seem that when factory ordered for a MY17 vehicle, that you would have received both driver and passenger side dimming mirror glass. The same option when ordered for MY18 vehicles seems to only give drivers side. Basiclly if you wanted dimming mirrors you would need to purchase new glass for your drivers side and passenger side (if you wanted both) as all you will have at the moment is standard heated glass.

During a folding mirror retrofit you would would retain your glass (unless you wanted dimming) and mirror “caps”. The bottom mounts would changes to those with motors within them and your interior controls would change, basiclly a new control knob with a folding mirror position. Once retrofitted you will then have folding on lock on / off options within your mmi central locking menu.

Wow, I did see something about other owners mentioning MY18 S3's only had dimming function on driver side. Bit cheeky by Audi! I presume at the cost of the glass majority of customers go just for folding mirrors with the dipping function. My other worry was what happens when the car goes into dealer?

While a good number of options are cheaper to retrofit after purchasing your vehicle, there is an increasing number that aren’t, even more so with our platform. Based on personal experience I would always spec all the options I need and can afford when ordering a new car, however many new vehicles are company / lease cars and a lot of people don’t care.

What happens if Your car goes in to Audi? They will mess around, pretend not to find any of your reported issues and then give it a really $hite wash lol. With regards to your retrofits.... I cannot speak for other retrofitter but as an authorised vw group services provider and independent repairer any retrofits I perform will still be there when the vehicle is handed back to you.

I was told it had it and travelled 138 miles to get the car to find out it didn't. I was compensated but its proving a nightmare now. Are you able to send me over some figures. Will do. Am currently trying to price up both standard folding and folding and dimming options. I actually have the “standard” pricing but it sucks so I am trying to get a better deal / bring the price down.

People don’t understand why I don’t have a standard price list or why it sometimes takes a little while to get pricing, it’s becuase I am always fighting to get the best deals and if the cost of parts goes down then my price goes down also.
