Put my S3 in for a Sachs organic clutch, question is, do they need to be needed in now a days. I’ve not had a new clutch for many, many years.

Yeah, sorry I meant bedded in. Note to self, must proof read before posting... lol

Cheers mate, I’ll do that.. can’t wait to get on that new found power..

So have you had to replace the clutch after your car was remapped? Is your car a manual?
Yes manual, 45k on original clutch then 50 miles with the re-map and it started to slip, not badly but as it would need doing in the near future I just booked it in.

I emailed Sachs performance my self and I'm sure they had said after 1000 kilometres you can start loading the clutch.

1000k, so 600 miles then, I'm not someone who will be launching it from the lights etc. Im thinking 2/300 miles like my nan would drive it then just increase the power for a couple of hundred more. I suppose it depends on the type of mileage you do also, if you up and down through the box or your sat on the motorway in one gear.

Got the car back today and was really surprised by how smooth it was, other than a heavier pedal it was just like the oem clutch it replaced. My drive is on a fairly steep slope so was expecting problems getting to my garage but it was silky smooth, no juddering and no nasty smell.

I think I started at around 850 miles and clutch is still fine and it's done 9000miles now.

Good to no mate, i thought you had paddle sach? Or did i just imagine it lol.
Hardest part about gettin clutch done is not bootin it, had sum lemon tail gatin me an i had to just restrain lol. :(
When you said load clutch would that be not swapping gear higher than say 4k revs?

I do have the paddle clutch but the principle is the same my friend. Yes it gets frustrating at times but once it's done you can give it some.

Loading the clutch is basically giving it some once the car is up to temperature etc.

Remember to do plenty of town driving to bed the clutch in as that is key to the process, just driving it on a motorway won't do it.

Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs pal.

Haha once it's bedded in you will love it. It's funny when you surprise other cars I did it with an M4 and was I think he was quite disappointed ha. But a modded M4 obviously and it would be a different story.

@Starry, what spec of sachs did you go for? How many NM? Did you keep the DMF?

I went with the Sachs organic plate part number-88 1864 999 502 and pressure plate-88 3082 002 352 with the sachs release bearing.
They are rated to 407-lb/ft with is 551-NM. I kept the oem flywheel.
My stage 1 is running 346-lb/ft, once the clutch is bedded in ill take it back and get them to up the torque as they held it back due to it running the standard clutch.
Really happy with the feel of it, other than the slightly heavier pedal its the same as the oem clutch it replaced.

Had a new clutch done by main dealer after 5,000 miles. Admittedly it was after my remap. (But they don’t know that)
They said they won’t be doing it again as they argued it was driver error but had no option to replace after all it was such low mileage.
I’m now up on 23,000miles and clutch is slipping even in eco!! I didn’t bother having the map put back on after the new clutch as I was so worried about killing a brand new car.
I’m gonna go for the Sachs organic clutch in the next few weeks!! Hopefully I can keep in contact with you guys who have had it done and keep me updated of how it’s all going.

18K on a clutch. You must have a heavy right foot and an overactive left. I know there bad clutches, bit surely audi must expect more longevity from them.

Do you drive a DSG? you sound almost as bad as the service advisor I delt with

Bedding in the clutch for me was a case of normal driving, as racking up the miles started to put load on lower gears acceleration. From experience most load would be 5th gear from low rev range and planting it so avoid this for a while..
As far as I’m aware you usually experience a burning smell from the clutch which is normal for the first few K mine does not smell anymore after probably 5k miles, how I don’t miss coming out in cold sweats. I do however find it a little difficult to reverse the car on inclines especially when the clutch was new again panick and sweats would kick in for fear of burning the clutch.
As mentioned I have converted approx 5k miles and I would guess 2k miles on stage 2 with 420lb torque and handles it no problems.
