Anyone retrofitted OEM Xenons

Hello

Can anyone tell me if the leveling motors will work on the xenon units by controlling the level adjuster switch inside the car? I intend to use the Kufatec harness.

I still need to be able to adjust the level due to towing a caravan but don't want to go down the complete retrofit route of the automatic level adjusters.

I have them standard on my car so can't comment on the retrofit side. One thing I know is you need to have auto headlight adjustment if you want it to pass the MOT unless you know someone who will pass it. They adjust all the time even when going along a bumpy road so they will blind oncoming traffic sometimes.

It doesn't HAVE to be fitted for xenon. It just has to work IF fitted.

@MarkWizard - have you considered modding you existing halogens, i.e. Fitting a pair of projectors in each lamp ? That'd provide some serious lumens on the road.......

Yes I have mate thanks. Slightly put off by the thought of having to split the lights etc. Presume from your signature you've done yours. Which projectors did you buy and was it an easy job?

That I never knew. I wouldn't take my chances with the MOT though, getting more strict every year.

Only queston though, why are the auto levellers and washers fitted at the factory if they don't need to be there for MOT purposes?

Hi Mark, I fitted bi-xenon projectors on my B7 in the dipped beam position and partnered them with some 100 w 5000K colour matched halogens in the high beam position. The light output was a significant improvement in dipped beam and dramatically so in high beam.
Didn’t think the job was too bad to do, prob easier than I expected to be honest. @t8ups ( emtuning ) provided the full kit as I wanted, the price was quite reasonable.

I basically followed this video as a guide :



If I could add a couple of tips;

* Give the headlamp unit a good clean to get rid of all bits of debris and dirt PRIOR to starting to strip them apart - just help to keep things clean !
* Wearing a pair of those cotton gloves would help with cleanliness and stray fingermarks !
* As you prize the lense off the housing, as soon as I could get inthrough the small gap, I cut through the butyl mastic with a sharp blade to prevent stringy bits of butyl going inside the lamp
* Avoid touching or getting anything on the reflective plated bits as much as possible - its really delicate and comes off easily, I got i tiny bit of butyl on ( fortunately ) an inconspicuous part of the reflector and in trying to clean it off, removed the plating in that area !
* Before replacing the clear lense, pop the headlight back into the car to ensure the horizontal alignment of the beam pattern is correct before shutting the headlamp unit back up.

Have a chat with Trups, I'm sure he can advise the best way forward, or alternatively, iirc, he can do the complete job for you, if you didnt fancy tackling it yourself.

Thanks Gary very helpful. When you put the lense back on did you have to apply more butyl or was what was left on there enough? Also did you add any additional wiring for the high beams being 100w?

Good question. But there's loads fitted to a car that must work I'd fitted but doesn't need to be fitted to pass an mot.
