Any 1.2 tfsi engine mods out there?

hi, i recently bought an audi A3 1.2 tfsi 105hp.
This might sound stupid but i was wondering if there are any performance enhancing mods out there (besides chiptune) for that neat little 1.2 engine, because i'm unable to find any :/. All i could find was a different air filter for it and thats about it...

I hope i didn't make to much of you cringe with this question because i really do want an honest answer.
 
Air filter will do nothing other than making your car sound chavvy!
 
That's the only thing that will give you real gains. Unlock the potential in the engine.

Don't forget to check insurance implications before you do it ;-)

It depends what your goal is and the size of your wallet - if it's just to make the most with what you have then an ECU remap will definately give you some decent gains for what the 1.2 can deliver.

I've just had the APR ECU and TCU tune on my S3 and it's transformed the driving experience - I don't chase numbers, but I notice a big difference in reduced lag, faster throttle response and quicker shifts. I could easily spend another grand getting it up to stage 2 but for little gains compared to stage 1, so bang for buck a stage 1 map is good value. You then of course have custom maps which are more tailored to your specific needs and/or current mods.

As mentioned previously an air filter will give no, or a few more horses at best - in some cases they even reduce power output. I personally had my filter installed for more audible induction sound, turbo spool and all of the other wonderful sounds a big turbo on the S3 delivers. I may sound 'chavvy' to some, but I love it, plus it's my first ever turbo car so why not.

You can then look at down pipes, cat-backs etc.which may give a few extra BHP at most and better sound, but these can be pricey for the gains achieved. I personally went for the res-delete as I can't yet justify spending over £1500 for a Milltek.

These are just a few of many mods you can do to try and squeeze as much performance output as possible, and the ECU map is by far the best value!

I'm from Belgium and the whole chiptuning business is one big gray zone. Its not illegal to drive around with a chiptuned car, but it can turn sour if you cause a serious accident due to speeding and the insurrance company finds out the car was chiptuned without their knowledge. That is IF they find out because they generally don't bother with that.

You're probably right. I'll just stick with a chiptune as i also want to retrofit my front and rear lights to the newer, better looking 2017 LED version with the dynamic blinkers which will also cost me a ton of money :/
 
Can you not declare it with your insurance provider?
I can, but no one does that because you will pay more for your insurrance and the only time it can blow up in your face for not declaring it, is when you cause a serious accident due the speeding. But even if you declare it and get into a serious accident due to speeding, the insurrance company will play it hard because your car is chiptuned, even though you pay the extra money for it to be covered in your insurrance policy. That's why its a gray zone.
 
Always curious how many people declare mods.. Like I declared my peddle box and then res delete. Think maybe £50/60 for both, but that's not even for the entire year. I'd rather just pay and if worst case scenario at least the insurance companies then start arguing over the big bucks... £20k+..

Anyone who enhances the performance of a car (the sole intention is to drive their car faster) and doesn't declare it to their insurance deserves to be caught and banned from driving!

Why buy a relatively under powered car then look at spending big bucks chasing more power? It would be cheaper and far less complicated to just buy the car you are happy to drive in the first place.

I'm 20, and everything more powerfull will cost my double the insurrance. I already pay €650 for it compared to my dad's car. Thats more than double of what he pays. So you must make a choice at that point, either pay €1000+ a year just for insurrance, or up the power on a far lighter engine and pay half that amount.

What are your insurance saying if you modify and increase the power of the car you have?
 
At 20 you have it all to look forward to. Accept that you are driving a much nicer car than most your age. Your insurance premiums are high for good reason. Avoid the trees, ditches, pedestrians, cyclists and other motorists for a few years then buy the car you really want next time.
*** don't tune your car without declaring it because they'll void your insurance and throw the book at you if you hurt anyone.
