Android RNS-E

It would be similar to the kenwood, you would see both devices on the screen and it would show in green which it is connected to. You can press a button to disconnect it from that phone and then press the other phone showing on the screen aswell and then it will connect to that one

Sounds like only one device is usable at a time then? In modern head units you can have both connected so that you can have one playing music and then use another to make a call. It will pause the music and resume playing when call from the other device has finished.

But you have to bear in mind the price point, a local audio installer quoted me £899 upwards for an all singing, all dancing branded unit, I can put up with only one phone being able to connect at any one time, especially as only have one phone.

I got rid of the wife, sadly only divorced and not dispatched, 6 1/2 yrs ago after her dishonesty left me almost destitute. In hindsight I should have got rid of her long before that but hindsight is a wonderful thing. :tearsofjoy:

No, it doesn't. You should buy the removal keys separately.

just got my unit, ordered in the early hours of the 8th, picked it up from a drop off collection point on the 9th. crazy fast.
as you said, no removal keys.
dont happen to know which style i need for a facelift a3 with a concert/chorus double din do you?

Which unit did you get, the on with a knob on each side or two on one side and was it for an A4 or A3?

Sorry to hear that. Hope you’re in a better place now.

Yes indeed, there have been a couple of ladies since but currently nobody to answer to regarding how I drive, when I go out on my motorcycle or what I watch on the telly. :thumbs up:

cheers ill order asap

knob on each side, for an a3. http://xtrons.co.uk/head-units/cust...-7-display-custom-fit-for-audi-a3-s3-rs3.html
prefer the symmetry and the fact that the lcd is in the centre compared to the rns-e styled unit

Despite having OCD myself and wanting to have the Symphony style setup for symmetry as you mention, I realised today that given the cars are right hand drive in the UK, the LCD shifted to the left (RNS-E style) makes it more sense since a good chunk of the view when looking left is covered by the steering wheel/hand, so I'm now personally inclined to go for the RNS-E style unit as I think I will have more of the LCD visible while driving!

I've the symmetrical one and don't find anything blocks the view whilst driving.

I actually like things to be symmetrical but the RNS-e style one is the design that was appropriate to my age of car hence why I went with that to try and keep it as OE looking as possible. :thumbs up:

Just received and installed XTrons pb78aa3p on my Audi 8p (no bose and no rear speakers) but my steering wheel controls are not showing up in settings and are not responsive. I believe I have wired everything up correctly, including canbus adapter, but when I go to settings it looks just like this

Any ideas?

Mines which was pulling worked straight out of the box there is an issue with the rear speakers especially bose needs a different connector Halfords. Steering wheel controls mines again worked straight away it was all plug and play mines came with loads of connectors. Sorry to hear your having problems mate. Google issues with that unit be quite a few people might have had similar issues. Some one will have a solution .

@Dr_Rick @maxpayne I will spam xtrons an email n see if they bite, although to be honest the current 15% promo is decent in its own right n it is usually what companies tend to reduce for group buys.

buuuuut I will let you know what they say, will prob need a minimum of about 5ish people though :s

Just an update @Dr_Rick & @maxpayne ive had no response from xtrons...and I am starting to get itchy fingers so I am likely to order today...it is a steal for the A3/S3 one @ £264 anyway tbh

Thanks mate, turns out it's just down to me being a dummy as I took the car for a drive and all controls were working fine :D
I also freaked out for a sec earlier.. engaged reverse and screen went black with an exclamation mark, and it took me a few secs to realise that it was a "missing video signal" warning from the rearview function.

I must say I'm super happy with the unit :yahoo: RRP is £309.99 on xtrons.co.uk but there was a flash sale last week and with the VIP15 code I got it for £235. Spent ages toying with a Nexus 7 and had this in the dash of my old Rav4, but the xtrons is just so much better. Definitely recommend it for now.

Missed the flash sale :crying:

More to the point, @davidws have you tried their online chat function as a means to talk to them? You can always get a transcript of the discussion emailed to you afterwards.

No, I just wrote them an email and then got it working 1min after sending it :D

The only bits I'm not too fond of are the volume/tuning knobs, which seem really cheap and plasticky.
The unit also doesn't snap in place as the metal clips don't seem to catch, but I'll get around fixing this..

You’ll never get Bose working properly if you’ve got a pumpkin as they don’t come with the correct cables for bose.
What you need to find is some sort of adaptor that you can plug into the speaker cables that has a power connection or an amp turn on function.
The reason your bose isn’t working properly is because your pumpkin speaker cabling doesn’t have the necessary wiring to connect to power to be able to turn the bose amp on through the speaker cables.

Sorry mate but I did one of the things I researched was the issues with the rear speakers mines is none bose.i actually bought extra leads and didn't need them. The forums I checked were mostly xtrons and some of the others. Alot of people were saying running separate power wire for the amp in boot. Something to do with the Android doesn't send a strong enough signal to switch the amp on. So I opted for pumpkin and not looked back since. If my system was bose I would have got it working . I'm from old school mate we had to wire equalisers. Tweeters. Midrange.subs. We never had internet for guides

Damn, looks like I could be in for a challenge as I've ordered the Xtrons as I was a tart and went for a unit with 4gb rather than 2gb which I think the Pumpkin is. I have a non Bose system but no idea if it has an amp or a sub and if it does where they are, although my car is a cabriolet so rear speakers not working shouldn't be quite such an issue.

Mines has the invisible sub tucked away in the boot I was really worried about having to run extra switching cable. Or to rip it all out and start fresh lucky for me it worked out ok.

I thought you said you had bose, i couldn’t really make sense of what you wrote to be honest.
If you’ve not got bose then you could have got any android unit then and it would have worked fine.

You’ll be fine if you’ve ordered an xtrons unit as they come with the wiring to work with or without bose, it’s just that most none xtrons android units don’t come with the wiring for Bose.

quick question for anyone with a reverse camera, did you take the 12v feed from the reverse light wiring, or elsewhere?

my last android unit, on a different car, had a dedicated 12v wire for the reverse cam (seperate to the trigger wire). dont think these, at least the xtrons, have that.
gonna be using the reverse wiring for the parking sensors so was hoping to avoid using that if poss as dont wanna cause any errors on dash. maybe not an issue with that anyway?

Hi I fitted my own camera you have to take the feed off the reverse light. You might also need to get a suppressor. To stop interference. Once you put car into reverse it will show image for a few seconds then white light

ok thanks for the info.
just hooked up the camera to an old android unit i have for testing atm, what these btards have done is made the led light connected to the 12v, the metal prongs on the outside arent connected to anything so wont turn on with the lights.
going through ebay to get my money back.

was looking up alternatives, and came across this thread
http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/thread...one-number-plate-light-any-experience.141532/

i much prefer the boot handle look, and itll be easier to fit.
also as posted in that thread, im gonna use a switched live from the wiper motor, so solves the issues you mentioned you were having

Hi I fitted my own camera you have to take the feed off the reverse light.

I noticed yesterday that the head unit switches to video feed as soon as you engage reverse. Since that is the case, is it really necessary to wire the camera to the reverse light? Can't I keep it powered up all the time by wiring it to the number plate light?

Also if anyone has any tips for rooting pb78aa3p please shout!
Google Maps freezes (strange... since the unit supposedly has 4gb ram) so I want to ramp up cpu clock, but KingoRoot fails to do its thing...
