thinking of removing front number plate on my rs3 I know it’s illegal just wondering how strict they are against it

Anybody any horror story’s or been fine haha

I’ve been fine since December. Just keep it under my seat and if I see police pop it in window just in case but never been bothered. They will only ask you to put it on with a 21 day ticket defect.

Yep, friends car was given a £100 fixed penalty notice (FPN) for not having his plate displayed correctly. He had a sticky plate made up and had it attached to the left side of the front bumper.
I had copied him (before he got the FPN) and found that some number plate recognition cameras in car parks (airport parking for example) didn't read the plate so after a few weeks I reverted back to the centre mounted plate.
Have to admit that the car looks mean without the front plate though. I guess it depends on where you live and as to whether your local cops can be bothered to pull you for it.

Personally while I think it looks better without a plate I think you are asking for trouble . If you draw attention to yourself for some other “minor “ infringement and you are not displaying a plate when u get stopped I think your chances of getting booked rather than let off with a warning increase 10 fold .

Fixed £100 fine around me in Leeds area.

Yes same in my area. But I’ve had a 21 day ticket for an illegally spaced plate well over 10 times which is meant to be £100 fine each plate but they always just say “as long as you get it changed right away I’m not going to fine you this time” The key is actually just to be honest and polite and don’t be a wee gobby ***** and you’ll be ok lol

If you do this in my area, then you're a bell end. Not only does it make you look like a bell end because it's clearly about how you want your car to look to other people (it's not something you can see as you drive it), but it makes you a magnet/target to the police because you're an easy pull over. Everytime they pull you over they'll check your documents, breathalyse you and swab you for drugs (and remember, traces can last for days). Do you need that attention?

How honest? Lmao!

“Sorry Officer I know it’s illegal but it looks good doesn’t it?”

I had my plate off for the first couple of months, no Police attention just occasional stares from them and a lot of driving around uncomfortable.

I’ve got my private plate on now with a shorter plate and much prefer it, it’s added my own personal touch to the front end and makes it feel like it’s mine now.

Most of my trouble was from bosses in work, I got properly grilled for it “you are telling me you have no front plate, because it looks better? At no time in all the time I’ve known you, have I wanted to punch you more than now”.. that’s my superior!!
There was word at one point I’d be banned from the car park, to which I’d have responded with putting a plate on when I pull up at the barrier.
I got threats from bosses that they would call the police and have them waiting outside, valid threads.
My neighbour came along and said “whats happened to your front plate?”, my response was it’s going back on now and indeed it did 10 minutes later.

In summary, as nice as it looks it’s not worth the hassle and plus I prefer the car with my plate on the front.

Certainly never a dull day in the life of Audinutta that’s for sure. My life seems very boring by comparison.!!

Why not run a small plate on the front? Much less likely to get pulled over

plates on the side is legal, as long as the font, size spacing and reflectivity is correct.

Evos, scoobys have been doing it for years and some of them came from the factory like that.

Agreed. Side plates and even cut down ones look chavtastic.

A few Alfas have sided front plates.

Personally I have sympathy in this day and age for people driving round with no front plate.
Throw the book at them !! That's what I say.

Can definitely understand people wanting to personalize bits and bobs.

I'm changing my front guawdy Audi chrome rings to gloss black.
Think that will look quite good. Got a nice set off eBay for a tenner !!

I decided to keep the plate on but tint it slightly but that only lasted a matter of days before I was told to remove it or the car will be compounded some how I got away with the letter spaceing at that time looked well whilst it lasted

And then choosing to run no front plate makes them a bell end? It’s there choice. They know the circumstances of getting fined if they get caught so let them be. Doesn’t make them any more of a cun7 than anyone else....

Suprised you don’t find tinted plates/mis spaced regs abit s**t aswell.

Never said anything about the tinted plates though did I ?

At least it’s not plastered off centre

As others have pointed out its personal preference.

I still think it looks ***** though.

Think you need to re read what I said
personal preference or not, running no plates, illegal spaced, smaller font, and tinted plates are considered a big no no by the 5 o.

Don’t see what’s the fuss with side mounted plates, if anything your improving flow through the intercooler/radiator. You might think it looks ****, but then again someone can say the colour of your car is ****, or the alloys on your car are ****. Who gives a **** of what others think tho. Not me.

Oh I believe them! But I think possibly they are winding you up.

You’d think it was a wind-up, but no they took it personally because “we abide by the law, why should you be any different?”

Anyway all is done and dusted now, in the form of a viable front plate :)

Boss telling you off on phone to Audi
Boss wanting to punch you
Boss wanting to ring the police ;)

^^
Haha, love the last twitter post "Then followed a fairytale as to why"

Oops, my bad... even letting work get to the forums haha ;) Must stop.

Sure it's their choice, which is why I know that by making that choice, they are bell ends. The roads are full of people who think the laws only apply to other people - or that they get to pick and choose which laws they follow and waste police time. Often these are also the dicks parking on double yellows outside the takeaway, talking on their phones whilst driving along and chucking litter out the windows.

So your telling me you’ve never ONCE used a handheld device while driving. Or stoped on double yellow lines.

I’m the same Omy193. We better be careful though or we will get classed as bell ends. Better put them back on for the forum police
