I have a de cat pipe on my exhaust system and gives the car a nice tone.
Not too loud either, only issue is that the EML light comes on because of this.
Cat bank 1 from memory.
Stays off for a week or so them flags up the same issue again.
I asked a local tuning company about having it mapped out and he quoted £150
And has said he can get a safe 280 bhp.
My car is standard other thsn the de cat and although i would love the extra power i want it to also be reliable and certanly could do with out any more bother.
Bam s3 with a recent new used engine on 79 k approx.
I was really only intersted in removing the EML light as it bugs the hell out of me but the extra BHP is very interesting.
Has any body got any advice ??

Anyone who tells you they can get you a safe 280bhp without the right supporting mods should be avoided imho, not only this you have to consider engine health which will play a major factor when tuning irrelevant of mileage so you can’t guarantee a figure, it makes what it makes

If you’re looking at stage 2 power levels you will need as a minimum a decent flowing FMIC, 80mm TIP and filter, good healthy fuel pump, 3” DP/de-cat and possibly 550cc injectors

Your post cat lambda can be coded out when mapping but you can also add a spacer to fool it but typically the EML usually pops up occasionally still

If all that was put on what rough figures do you think?
Also would the torque not be on the edge of rod failure?
 
275-280 bhp is as much as you can reasonably expect from the above mods. I have the mods above on my TT, I have standard injectors with a 4 bar FPR and it made 275 bhp and 300Lb /ft . This was on an accurate dyno.
To code out the post cat sensor is a 15 minute job if that. Find a decent tuner who knows what he is talking about and isn't going to rip you off.

if you want to code out the EML, buy an MPPS lead from ebay for £10 and download you map, use tuner-pro and the free tuner-pro checksum plugin switch off the post cat sensor and put your map back on. once you have all your other airflow mods on, up the load and timing by 10% and add some fuel with the lamfa settings. and start street racing

I’m Cambridgeshire based more towards Peterborough tho, as long as it’s not APR’d or Revo then it’s a simple task to turn off all Cat functions and DTC.
Price wouldn’t be much at all.

Hi there....

Buy mpps v13. It is really cheap. Download your sw from the car ( if download failed then pull out the dashboard fuse from the fuse box ) and send it to me! Please make a screenshot when you make it to see your HW and SW number! I've a couple of S3 decat+remap sw with 100% positiv customer feedback! My s3 is running on 255hp at the moment with decat pipe and a nice remap, but the project isn't finished yet :) )

Start by buying the lead from eBay installing the software in your laptop and reading the map onto the laptop. My original map i tried to read from an eBay purchased stage 2 mapped ECU was not 1024kb which meant it was encrypted (it was 308kb) because I spent hours trying different downloads i trashed my battery.
But even that was simply overwritten with a BAM map. The immobiliser is not related to the map.

You're not really supposed to talk about mapping on this forum but yes simple to do, I will gladly give you some advice in downloading the tuner pro checksum plug-in which is the most important thing to do otherwise you end up by either gaming having to disconnect battery for a couple of hours or putting ECU into "boot mode"

There is always risks involved with this type of thing, as a novice I managed it all and thoroughly enjoyed it.
But as suggested start with the lead and software to read / write the ECU (it doesn't have to be an MPPS lead there are other leads and applications but that one I got to work) - then download the free tuner pro software and tuner pro checksum plug in and BAM map metadata xdf file to look at your BIN files. I could maybe PM you some screen shots of tuner pro to make sure we stay inline with ASN forum rules.

Yes. Charger your battery but it is under upload. If your battery is in good condition then doesn't need to charge under the reading procedure! My s3 is also has BAM engine. If your ecu same like mine then I give you my remapped file for free! If not then I'll speak with my tuner and you will get a proper safe file customised to your car

by managed it all you mean bricked your ecu a few times too...........
 
yeah I bricked the first time I changed a file as I didn't download the free tunerpro checksum plug-in and when I bought all the stuff to use boot mode and bench flash it was already re-accessible as disconnected for a while - hence the comment regarding risks. I didn't change anything difficult like timing, injector cycles, PID etc, most people simply copy the TTQS BFV Map as a Stage 1 to give around ~240BHP

what's most annoying about the checksum is it will work the first time the car is started - so now I start the car then switch off and start the car again so I am not stuck somewhere else.
 
I always keep the checksum file marked with a capital "C" at the start of the filename

and i check my checksummed file and save it in a separate folder to the files i play with.... we've all done it

Sorry, I don't understand this. Please could you elaborate?
 
The most important part of making your own changes to a map for these cars is that a checksum is generated as part of the file, if you change a 1 to a 0 the checksum will be different, so it needs to be regenerated using a tool or utility.
If you write a file to the ECU with an invalid check sum, it will start and run perfectly well but if the checksum is incorrect the ECU won't work afterwards, as it only validates the checksum after the engine has started. So you cannot access the ECU until it has been disconnected from the battery for a while (couple of hours) or put into "boot mode" after being removed from the car and connected to a power supply.
but... Tuner pro supports plug-ins for the checksum calculator and you can use it for free for personal use. Which means everytime you save a file it calculates the checksum automatically.

The CRC on a file is essentially the checksum, it's a way of validating the file is correct to avoid dodgy corrupted ECU files setting the load to 250% or timing crazy.

There are dangers in changing anything but the BAM xdf files are pretty good and as a novice you can just change relatively safe settings. Apply the plugin maybe use the nefmoto checksum test utility as an extra check etc.

Exciting stuff all done at your own risk obviously.

Could somebody clarify that the fault above is due to not having a Cat and in need of being mapped out ?
 
And this little adapter goes in after the cat.
2nd sensor etc
 
Yes that fault will be due to the fact you have no cat and a spacer will trick the ECU into thinking the cat is still there.
 
Also thanks for all the advice. I looked at downloading the free maps but i could not get my head round it
 
Yes after the cat.The ECU measures how well the cat is working by looking at differences in the signal between the first and second sensor.
Obviously with just a straight pipe the difference between the first and second sensors signals is minimal. By spacing the sensor it produces a slightly different signal to the first one.
 
Why would you download a free map? You already have a free map on your ECU. If you are considering flashing your own ECU then at least know exactly what you are putting on the car.

I got p420 when my car still had a sports cat and was plugged in, it happens if a time threshold passes without a good reading compared to the rest of the car status. So the spacer may not help.
 
Send email over with current file and when I find time, I’ll turn off all the cat related systems and not just the fault code.

Thank you very much but i am completely lost.
I have been doing research on peoples comments but really cant get my brain round it all.
 
If you can't get your head round it it might be better to leave it for a tuner to code out incase you do something wrong and you could be worse of.

as hydro has commented if you dont have the confidence to actually try (not only read comments to understand) you may be better off paying someone.

enough people have said invest in an MPPS lead and try and only read you own map to make sure it creates a 1024KB file - to learn that tool.

then get tunerpro and the tunerpro checksum plugin and download and download a BAM XDF and start looking and comparing all the settings.

as an example today I updated my stock BAM map to have only a tiny bit more load and sympathetic AFR - whilst trying to confirm the replacement N75 has resolved my turbo stall/stutter etc

You shouldn't try and do this all at once whilst learning practice Identifying ECU and Reading ECU to make sure it works correctly. then make sure you back - up this important map, you should only ever make a copy of it to practice or play around.

As suggested it can be dangerous if you change the wrong thing or use the wrong values, so it has to be at your own risk - or you pay someone to take the risk they will have insurance for any mistakes.

Ryan you have changed the Turbo in your S3, this little job is well within your capabilities. you dont need to write anything to the ECU to start with and if you like you could share your amendments. it's not a 5 minute job to learn these but there is very little risk in doing the first step of reading the BIN and viewing it / comparing with other random BAM/AMK maps to find and start to understand some basics.

the best thing I had seen on nef was when someone corrected my Y Axis description with something else only then be corrected to it being some other thing by the next person - like a three step PWNED - just need nynet to say you are all wrong
 
That's the instructions on how to map out the rear O2 sensor, I don't know the answers to where else it might impact the set up. I don't recall the instructions including "... and remember to....."
