so lately my car has been making a loud clunking/popping sound from both side of my front suspension.. it’s happened since I installed coil overs (Fk) it never used to do it on my old suspension but it seems to be getting worse.
It only happens if I full lock. If I full lock to right the right side clunks and same for left side.

Any ideas?
Much appreciated.

I would imagine its the drive shaft hitting the anti roll bar... you will need shorter drop links

It doesn’t sound like it but I never thought of that.. it’s like a loud dong noise

lowering an A3 on coilovers almost always causes the drive shaft to hit the ARB... generally need adjustable drop links to over come the issue...

There should be witness marks on the shaft from where its rubbed on the ARB

Yeah I’ve heard, only thing is the sound doesn’t get quieter or louder it’s always the same noise.. also it does it a lot more when cold don’t know how it affects it but it does.. but I’ve ordered some adjustable drop links hope it solves it

Failing that check that the top mount bearing hasn't seized up.

I have Powerflex top mounts which come with coilovers they have been making this noise since putting coilovers on the noise has recently become more noticeable

I assume you fitted the bearings? Noise could be the springs winding up as the turn

Yeah it mainly happens when turning around or if I full lock it rarely makes noise driving in a straight line

Springs binding up... did you refit the OE top bearing with the top mounts?

<tuffty/>
No didn’t because I didn’t have spring compressors.. but I bought the coilovers second hand so literally it was altogether so just walked it straight on the car

Yeah now to me sounds like the bearings in the top mount have seized... had it a few times over the years. You'll wanna get your hands on some spring compressors switch them out.

Do you have to get oe bearings ? Or is it an eBay jobbie? I’m now regretting throwing my old struts out
