Ok so collected new RS3 yesterday but I'm not sure if the steering wheel sits slightly to the right when steering straight ahead, even allowing for camber

If I look at the gear change paddles and the bottom of the wheel when steering straight ahead the wheel appears to sitting to the right marginally, but if I shift my buttocks to the right so I'm sitting closer to the window all seems ok.

When driving on a reverse camber I should be steering slightly left to allow for this but the wheel looks straight, obviously when driving on a normal camber I am steering slightly right but more in my opinion that I should be

So my question is... Is the driving position off centre causing an optical illusion or do I need an alignment?

Probably needs alignment.

I have mine done the week I buy them.

Guy who does it says he’s seen brand new cars out from the factory.

Just find a guy who knows how to operate his machine properly.

I would....

Keep it away from Audi in my opinion.

You’ll not get any joy anyway as they’ll say you hit potholes driving it.


At least if you have it done yourself you know it’ll be correct and in most cases you can watch them do the work.

It’s normal to be slightly to the right, I complained the same with my S3 and it ended go being aligned 3/4 times for various problems and always went back the same.

My RS3 is the same, slightly to the right.

It’s the difference between not being acceptable and how the car was designed to be set up at the factory.

The Audi centre enter your reg and get the specs for that car and nothing else.

But what I dont understand is set the steering wheel straight, clamp it, then adjust the alignment, I seen it done on Hunter machines with a great result. The alignment doesnt care where the steering wheel is positioned

True, it’s just how Audi set them up repeatedly regardless of how and where the clamp is.

If it's done correctly the steering wheel will be central......

Had every one of my cars done as soon as they are bought, never had an issue with the steering wheel being off centre.....

The guy that does mine lets me go for a drive after he has finished the alignment to make sure I'm happy with the wheel position, if i'm not he adjusts it until i am.

I'm booking mine in at a place with a hunter and sending Audi the bill, not expecting them to pay it but I can vent my displeasure, emailed dealer immediately after collection to register fault

Audi Warranty pays for any alignment changes in the first 6 months from what I’ve read.... but they 110% won’t pay elsewhere when they kit is more than up to it, all Hunter as far as I’m aware.

Prepare to be surprised when you see the overall alignment, my S3 was nearly all in the red at 4000 miles. I’m toying with the idea of having the RS3 setup at the specialist, £90 a pop. One thing at a time.....
Also looking into a catch can.

I’m having a service at my specialist on the 26th, getting them to do a proper Hunter alignment for £90... got a feeling they offer different kinds of setups too.

I hadn't noticed that my steering wheel was slightly to the left. Now it is all that I can see.
Contemplating moving the wheel one spline to the right for the moment.

You'll confuse the steering angle sensor by doing that..........

Thanks for the heads-up but it is easy to recalibrate.
I may try and get it done by the dealer but I really can't be bothered with the battle of getting past the "gatekeepers". I'm getting quite a collection of niggles and not even up to 1500 miles yet.

Thanks for the heads-up but it is easy to recalibrate.
I may try and get it done by the dealer but I really can't be bothered with the battle of getting past the "gatekeepers". I'm getting quite a collection of niggles and not even up to 1500 miles yet.

I have a few niggles also, going in to have them sorted, going to wait on the ticking exhaust as the part number is the same

I haven’t had it done yet, being done Monday.

Can’t send the bill to Audi, didn’t give them the chance to sort it. They won’t just take it in straight away, they will want to see a tracking issue with the car pulling to either side before they do any alignment anyway... not worth the battle and a day without my car.

But on a side note it does say that Audi Warranty covers alignment issues but only for 6 months.
