Michelin tyres no good for rs3!

So I fitted mp4s tyres to my 8v. Since I have had the tracking constantly kicking in like if I pull out a rd traction will be flashing. Even if I pull away fast it will flash. I have been driving with it turned off as it’s dam annoying!

I recently hit a big pot hole and caused an egg. So I ordered 1 new tyre from blackcircle. I then had a reply well a message from Michelin saying the mpss and the 4s are not suitable for the 2015+ rs3 they cause mechanical issues.

Now I no why my traction is playing up!

Just letting you all no just incase anyone thinking of getting new tyres.

Incase anyone wanted to see what they actually said!

The fitment is mainly Pirelli OE, which is a R01/R02 specific fitment, and also Acoustic (Pirelli equivalent PNCS- Noise cancelling system)
Also the Pirelli OE tyres are doing less than 10K miles on the cars, making consumers keen to try our tyres, with our clear advantage in mileage

The R01/R02 marking sadly means the tyres are NOT THE SAME SIZE as a standard tyre in this instance.
The car is 4wd/Quattro, meaning it is very sensitive to it’s fitment in this case

We have a few examples where Pilot Super Sport/Pilot Sport 4S have been fitted and caused mechanical issues with the car, no damage, but the vehicle doesn’t drive as it should
These issues have been rectified upon returning to the standard specification of tyre R01/R02

There is NO technical issue with our products. It’s simply that the standard market tyres don’t work on this specialist vehicle and we do not make the appropriate tyre

The technical team in Clermont are aware, and we have asked for the Michelin.co.uk fitment advice to reflect these

Therefore if you are asked by a dealer as to the suitability of our products for this car, at this point we cannot recommend a product from our range
It seems apparent that the advice in the Audi handbook/manual in the car, isn’t being read/followed. We will as always deal with any specific issues arising if the customers fit our product

MPSS were fine on mine, very rarely set off the traction light and only ever did it from cold. I just turned it off as you did then enjoyed the car. I hated every second that I had the OE pirelli's ...

Edit - FYI the "noise cancelling system" is simply foam on the inside of the OE tyre. The chap that replaced mine had never seen anything like it before and was just short of retirement age imho!

Not sure why anyone would move away from the R02 spec Pirelli, it is what the car was developed on in terms of ride, handling, stability control, traction control, ABS etc. Audi (and many other manufacturers) go to a lot of trouble to ensure their cars work well with their recommended tyres.

I like the P-Zeros too - no issues here (not with the tyres at least!) - loads of grip to the point where I can't find the point where the car is going to break away without putting it on a track.

My fronts lasted 9k miles! The MPSS were still going strong 32k miles later.

Only managed 7.5k miles out of my first set of front Pirelli's, and nearly 8k out of the second set.
I was tempted to fit the Michelin tyre but a couple of friends said that they also had experienced the flashing traction control problem. They did say it improved the handling though and were lasting way longer than the Pirelli tyre.

I believe it’s only an issuer when you have the wider fronts it confuses the tc and Valdez system as the mpss etc are not matched properly front to back even tho they are listed the same as the originals.

Although I was unimpressed with the incredible quick wear of the Pirelli's and excessive outer edge wear on the fronts ... I could not moan about their performance otherwise.

I considered the Michelin's but having heard too many people comment on the traction light - I ultimately ended up putting new Pirelli's on the fronts a few months back ... they have been faultless since.

This thread certainly re-inforces my decision.

Just boyght my RS3 with brand new Michelin PS4 on and soon as I pick it up I’m swapping them to Yokohama AD08R tyres that Iv got in the garage off my s3 . Best traction tyre Iv seen stick like glue and wear well.

I get you, but you can say that with most tyres, I thought the tyres performed well in wet conditions too when I was expecting otherwise

I agree iv run semi slicks in the wet and winter on road before and they generally still grip more than normal summer tyres standing water is there only down fall.
Oh and snow I binned it on snow on AO48 once over a blind corner flat in third in my Subaru didn’t think the little snow that had started falling would matter too much for the last run

On our Scirocco R that went through a set of front continentals in 6,000 miles !

To be fair it’s not a major issue to me as I only do around 6,000 miles per year ... if I did more then I would consider other brands for the RS3.

Back in 1999, my Fiat Coupe Turbo achieved a mighty 3800 miles on a set of front PZero Rossos. That was when I was doing 15000 miles a year!
Expensive habit!
