Hi question to the folk who are under 25 who do you get insured with and what are you paying ?

Thanks

I haven't got my car just yet (hopefully in a week or two!) but I'm 21 and from the quotes I have had it comes right around £1,850 for the year.

Two things I recommend doing -

1. Add someone older to your policy as a named driver. It doesn't matter if they're related to you or not. I've got my neighbor on my policy quote who's 65 and retired and it brought the price down by well over £1000! Sometimes it can bring it down further by adding two people, so just have a play.

2. Research the cheapest job title because it does affect the price. I work in IT so I put mine as "Data Processor" - it's not a lie, it's just stretching the truth a bit. That brought the quote down by roughly £400.

Your postcode will also significantly affect the price of your policy. Admiral and their sister companies were the cheapest for me.

I’m 24 and yesterday I was being quoted £1700 and then I realised my insurance runs out on the 3rd and I passed my test on the 2nd March adding a year on and an extra no claims and now it’s £900
Insurance companies are a joke

I feel for you lads. It is a total ba5tard. You can get a vbox but then, whats the point of getting an RS car?

25 is a milestone for insurers. F*ck knows why - the snowflake generation is far more risk averse (albeit far more naive) than most others. Anyway, if you can insure the car at less than £1k at 24/25 you have done well. Mine was the best part of £650 and I am pushing 50 ***.

I’m 25 mid April. Bought it on the 22nd and even waiting until the 3rd is killing me never mind waiting until April. Even at 25 I can’t see it being much cheaper then 900

I’m 29 with 8 year NC and I’m only paying £50 less than that

Quite a lot of companies... including all the forums sponsors have come back saying they won’t insure me as I’m under 30... even though one says they specialise in insure younger drivers

Yes I had the same when I first got the new S3 last year because it was over £25k value or because I wasn’t old enough. The amount of times I filled all the info out for a quote and at the end just got the big finger

I’ve found postcodes seem to have a pretty big effect on prices too... from a “good” area to a “bad” area it can change hundreds

I had a quote from them for £3000 earlier on, looks like Admiral/Elephant are still coming up trumps. I’ve had 5 cars, 3 of which have been with them because they are friendly as it turns out with fast cars and young drivers compared to most.

As quoted in anotber thread AXA/Swiftcover, same firm, best for me. 16 years NCD, I can count the number of weeks on 2 hands until I'm 50. Think I've got a good postcode in North Wales.

Worth a try for your circumatances

I'm 26 and mine is about £850 a year with 4 years no claims. I'm at mid-senior level in a business and live in a very desirable postcode (OX2) so that helps.

Just sharing my experience of insurance costs as someone younger. Job title and postcode definitely come into it, but postcode more so. I lived in Peterborough for 6 months when I was 22 and the difference in insurance between PE2 and OX15 was £400 a year, and that was a Golf GTI. And PE2 isn't rough at all.

Cheapest insurance I’ve ever had was at 19 with 2 years NCB, £600 a year with Aviva on a 1.4TFSI A3 S Line. Went up to £1700 with my S3 from there and then £2700 for the RS3. Price I pay for a 400bhp car...

Insurance is just madness. The 3-4 weeks leading up to my RS3’s arrival, I was getting concrete quotes with a policy of £1000 a year.. I could have clicked and bought the policy against a 67 plate RS3 specced like mine. In the last 2 weeks, it rocketed again and saw me back at £2700+.

I couldn’t save the £1000 quotes because they had to be against a registration number, when you give one they seem to regenerate the quote.

I found this when I was looking at quotes towards the end of last year... quote after quote was coming back around £550 every time... then all of a sudden then was a jump and the cheapest I could get was just over £800

No ideas why the jump out of nowhere happened?!

There are a lot of factors that insurance companies use, also what time of year, or even day! They are constantly monitoring the market and each other to hit quotas etc, most likely the RS3 has had a new report of more burglaries so this will impact rating loads. Ive had various sports cars and the RS4 and RS3 have been the most expensive to insure due to how desirable they are to 'stolen to order' criminals.

I’m a mech engineer for an off shore oil and gas company and I don’t think that helps tbh but the post code is one of the lowest risks around me

Yes I had similar one day from another could be hundreds of pounds different it’s ridiculous

Admiral/Elephant where the cheapest for me for year 1 and year 2 (£1100 and £1350)
Very good prices considering I was 19 at the time with 0 ncb

Now at 21 the cheapest I can get is around £1300 with swift/axa. With 2 years ncb considering the value of the car has dropped to under 25 k.

How on earth does that make sense.

What car is it? I’m struggling because all the specialist company’s for young drivers and hot hatches under 25k and the car in question is 36k

I will try them, thank you!

Value of the car dropping isn’t a good thing, cheaper you to the higher the Insurance gets.

Surely the car dropping value means they’ll have to pay out less in an event of a total loss ?

I’m 20 and picking up my 2018 S4 saloon soon. Insurance for me was £1600, couldn’t get insured on the Rs3 came in at something like £3500 with a £1500 excess. Screw off I thought so ordered the S4. However when I put in 21 the Rs3 quote dropped to £2500 . Don’t understand insurance funnily enough the S3 was more expensive to insure than both at £3800 despite being 20 k cheaper than A Rs3 and S4. Figure that one out...

Cheaper cars cost less in my experience, depends on what price bracket you fall into. Those insuring a banger will pay more than we do with our RS3’s a lot of the time.

Aviva still seems to be the cheapest for me, also if you can stomach 200 miles of boring driving the Aviva drive app can save you up to 30% off as well. I got 8.1 out of 10 and reduced my cost by about 25%, meaning my S3 was a little over £600 to insure (22 years old, 4 years ncd).

Admiral and their sister companies usually come up cheap but I’d never touch them again after my past experiences with their claim department.

Nah no box for the actual policy, don’t even know if Aviva do them.

Also, Aviva drive app is optional anyway (just if you want extra discount) was an app on my phone and you manually start it before you set off and when you reach your destination it says do you want to save this journey, if you say no your miles aren’t added and your score isn’t effected for that particular trip. Did my 200 miles in a single day with a work trip to Birmingham cruise control set to 70 on the motorway for the journey.

I’ve used the Drive App, worked for me too.. got the full discount. But I’m pretty sure when I’ve tried Aviva for the high performance cars they can’t insure me because of my age.
