My A7 modded my way...why are there hardly any A7 threads around??

Right now i have the hang of picture resizing away we go.

In the below pic you can see my carbon!!!! Spoiler and just above in the centre below the grill MY NEXT BATTLE...

Its a piece of plastic that can be unbolted from the bumper as it has 4 screws underneath, now i've had my car up on ramps to do the front splitter and @ the same time intended to wrap the removable plastic trim part in Matt silver ( my wing mirrors will be done in the same matt silver ) i've been car parts wrapping for about 5 years now so this should have been a 20min job...

But could i remove the trim after undoing the screws???? Could i hell god knows what else is holding the trim on, any ideas folks????

Did you have any joy getting that part of the bumper off?

I would like to carbon mine, but looked a while back (when l had the front bumper off doing the RS grill update) and thought it was part of the bumper moulding rather than a separate piece?

Cheers,
John.

Hi no i havent had another go @ it yet as the weathers not been good enough to start bending and pulling @ plastic!!

If you look @ it from underneath its held on with 4 screws and once there undone theres some movement to it, which makes me believe its a separate part otherwise whats the point of the 4 screws..

But i must admit i couldnt find away to release it, it starts to move then just refuses to move anymore which lead me to believe its held in with some tight snap in out lugs.

I considering doing it again this weekend but again its been to cold...i am intending on removing the rear diffuser tomorrow though i've had that off on the A5 so the A7 will be the same removable process

Well today i tackled the rear diffuser today...

The job been to gloss black wrap the rear diffuser..

Now i've been wrapping for about 5 years and have done quite a few tricky hard jobs, but BY GOD THIS DIFFUSER HAS TESTED ME TODAY

all in it took 4hrs!!! To wrap, what a ballache it was, just so many awkward shapes contours and radius to wrap..

Any how pics.

Did you get it reattached?! Any pictures of your diffuser fitted?
How you finding the front splitter? Looks great!

Another update, my water pump started leaking water big time, about 1 litre over 350 miles gulp!!

So i managed to get it replaced last week using my warranty which i got with the car...just waiting for the warranty company to pay me back now!!! Strange how you have a warranty but YOU have to pay then claim the money back...

So the exhaust back box delete and new tips have been moved to getting fitted this week...

Next up after the exhaust tips and back box delete is to remove the front bumper and wrap some parts that i have in mind.

Hopefully with the bumper off they should be easy to wrap..

Looking good there

Nice to see someone else who likes to mod on the A7 platform :racer:

So my A7 was dropped off tonight for its back box deletes and straight pipes and my fancy exhaust tips added..

Whilst its back in there going to do another compression test as i think its still losing a little water + check all the gaskets seals around where water flows so i have everything crossed..

Then as mentioned above on monday i'll take the front bumper off wrap the parts that i want to do ( its still to cold to wrap the wing mirrors yet ) as i'd have to do them outside...then i'll have a go @ removing the boost pressure switch from the boost pipe and give the metal tracks a clean as DTUK recon that could be causing my lump mode errors with the map setting.

So i got the car back on friday night after having the back boxes deleted and straight pipes and new tips added.

Theres not much difference in sound but the tips work well with my gloss black rear diffuser.

I wasnt really expecting much difference in sound if im honest, i havent driven it much since having the back boxes removed, well not far enough where the engines been fully warmed up.. especially in this cold weather.

The 3 litres are hard to get lots of noise out of them with going down the dpf route...

I mite an exhaust cut out welded into the pipe b4 it splits into the two sections down the line, prob in summer..

Hi,
What else you could modify? Well what about sound upgrade?
We've got 10" sub box with volume of 15 liters that fits directly into right side of the A7 trunks.
I don't want to post any links here cuz it's gonna broke forum rules however you can easily google it or find me on Ebay.
We're based in Poland and we ship all over the world.

Now that looks a nice piece of kit very OEM +.. im guessing that you'd need to hook up a separate amp thou to power the sub? as my BOSE sub will be powering my BOSe sub/subs???

STILL got the water leak, its doing my head in now, no obvious signs of leaking, I.E no puddles on the under tray no wet pipes.

I've put a new expansion tank cap on, but still doing it, next step is to take the front bumper off look @ the rads and there pipe joints whilst the engines running

It should sound like a derv gate with everything straight piped

@holmefield

Ye, you need to install another amp.
We used Audio System M-850.1 D together with JL Audio 10w3v3-4 subwoofer

Right time for an update..

So with the car still losing water from god only knows where, i decided to take the front bumper off today to have a loom @ the radiators.

Now the A5 front bumper is quite easy to totally remove from the car i did it quite a few times and the headlight wash system stays on the car...Not so the A7, theres about 20 bolts to remove and all the headlight washer pipes to pull off the bumper and then PULL!!!

Now with the A7 the Headlight washers are connected directly to the front bumper so if you want to remove tbe bumper and take it away from the car you have to crimp the washer pipes, i didnt need to do this as was just dropping the bumper...you can move the bumper about 6" away from the car with the washer pipe still attached..

Anyhow, again NO leaks found, so its back to the drawing board AGAIN.

I had limp mode issues a couple of months ago,the DTUK box on the higher settings caused over boost issues and limp mode, i was advised to remove the boost control switch and clean it..now this is hidden way down in the front part behind the passenger head light down near the intercooler.. a pig to get @ unless you've removed the front bumper, so it made sense to clean it...it was still a pig to remove the screws as it sat right next to the inner wheel arch and getting a star drive on the bolts is tricky...so off it came and it was given a good old clean...DTUK now set on map 2 + 1 lets see if the limp mode returns on this setting...

So after all that im still scratching my head over the water loss..

So after the failed water leak find i decided to add a little mod i've been toying with doing.

Rear spoiler time!!!

I decided to cut mine down and sit it on the edge of the spoiler that lifts up.

Im happy with it and its the same stuff as the front bumper splitter so it ties the front and rear in nicely.

Still more mods to do, Summer alloys ( RS5 SPEC 20" rotors ) going on soon and the hubs are all getting sprayed zinc silver and the calipers are getting a fresh coat + the brake surrounds are getting painted black.

Then im going to wrap/tint my rear lights with a light gloss smoked tint wrap..i did it to my boxster and it adds just enough tint to look right..

Then its a few mods to the front bumper!!! And the external hunt for the water leak..

So with my car still losing water and the potential for a rather large repair bill now looming ever larger the mods have all but stopped.

I have lots planned but repairs come 1st, i have fitted my summer wheels thou.

Yes i have done a couple.

I will do a full write up tomorrow about the water leak as its now sorted but it was EXPENSIVE to mend which affected the modding big time.

I had issues with an S Tronic gear knob i bought off ebay which instantly failed!!! On fitment, so a replacement knob!! Was always on the cards i considered another S Tronic knob but decided to go a different route..

The facelift black edition A7s come with a front facing button gear knob that has lovely perforated black leather on it, one came up @ a good price so i fitted that. I'll add pics later.

I have removed the DTUK tuning box as i got a good offer on a remap..

So as im @ work i will do the water leak write up tomorrow now, but i had a remap done on tuesday including a rolling road section.

It was @ west yorkshire tuning, who have great reviews for the diesel Vag engines, and it was a decent price.

So the figures!!

On its stock run I.E as it left the factory it showed 241bhp and 562nm!! Apprently west yorkshire tuning told me they've seen more than a few 3 litre diesels with more than standard Torque.

I had performance map done but obe that balanced it with not terrible Mpg.

It produced 305bhp and 672nm!!!! I was quite surprized @ the nm as i'd read the boxes are only rated to 650nm but the tuners and from what i've read online seems to back them up, said these S Tronic boxes are ok upto about 750nm but obviously @ that level the gearbox would have had a remap to..

I don't drive like a mad man anyhow, so the high Nm isnt going to get tested that often...how does it drive...... in manual paddles mode its mental, it totally transformed the power delivery it just sets off and pulls and pulls like a train, you really do have to change up quickly as it just eats the rpms up.

I haven't try dynamic or sport yet.

I had a great map from Yorkshire Remaps in Leeds £249

The typical profile of an A7 buyer is the main reason there is no significant modding of these cars, that and it’s actually a relatively low volume production car , making it uneconomical for most aftermarket suppliers to produce anything A7 specific.

Most A7 modifications, from an engine perspective, are pulled from similar engined cars within the VAG family, and the majority of other mods are contained to either applying parts from a higher model in the family, or customised modifications carried out by the owner.

The US market is significantly more active on the A6/7 platform mainly because they are all focussed on exclusivity and 0-60 times on the racetrack. This site here is the one I use the most http://www.audizine.com/forum/forumdisplay.php/265-C7-A6-S6-RS6-A7-S7-RS7

Having said that there are a few of us around, but it it’s a very small group. Here are my mods.....

RS7 Gear knob
Carbon steering wheel
Carbon mirrors
Carbon rear valence
Carbon door trim
Porsche Yellow powder coated brake calliper
Custom free flow exhaust
Carbon exhaust tips
All exterior chrome wrapped matt black
OEM RS7 front grill
Roc-Euro sports air intake
Custom matt Black powder coated 20” alloys
Custom (Cete) air suspension control
Front and rear dash cams (BlackVue)
LED lighting in the boot
Remote control of the tailgate (VCDS mod)
Lap timer in the HUD + gear and temp display (VCDS mod)
Subwoofer in the trunk
Xpel paint protection film on the front of the car
Debadged, with black rear rings
Ceramic paint protection on non-PPF areas
Coming in Feb: APR Stage 1 & Transmission TCU upgrade

That’s about it off the top of my head.:racer:
