Hello everyone,

Newbie to this forum :)

My A4 went in for it's service last September and I asked about the MMI update (MMI flicking). I was advised it had been put on for me.
To cut a long story short, I have just checked the Software version and it is version 0359. I am not convinced they have patched it in, mainly because it is still flickering. The dealership have been terrible since we bought the car a year ago. It has actually broken down a couple of times with the same problem but thats a whole another story.

Does anyone know the latest software update number? I am debating taking the car to Eastbourne Audi as that is my local one and I really cant face dealing with the dealership that I bought the car off anymore.

This is June 17 B9 with Tech pack. It was serviced 3 weeks ago, don't know if they did any updates...

Is not the firmware number dependant upon which mmi version you have, whether it is sd card based or the mmi high?

I am unsure to be honest. It just seems strange that the flickering is still going on when they claim they have patched in the update. I have the Virtual Cockpit system if that helps

Thank you. Yes, I have. That is the service campaign that the dealers claim to have carried out on the car. But the problem remains. I also have 'ghosting' when going between menus sometimes. I wonder if it is worth Eastbourne taking a look. I dont trust the dealership I bought the car from anymore. Even had to get Head office involved in the end due to disgusting customer service. Hasnt been a great experience for my first ever Audi. I know things go wrong on cars but you really find out how much a dealership cares when it comes to aftersales.

I have always found eastbourne audi to be good with warranty work but just don't let the 'grunts' valet your car...

Dealers won't update the MMI system unless there is a TSB or recall to fix a specific issue, even then the update may reference an older version of the MMI software not the very latest.

Dealers will only work from the erwin/odis system supplied by Audi AG, and if there are no instruction from the factory to update the software they will keep the car on that version, as the dealership charge Audi AG for warranty work and unless there is TSB/recall or fault (where they will just swap the hardware/software for the same version) the dealership cannot charge Audi AG for the work to update the software as it would not be classed as warranty work.

If your display is flickering then it's more likely to be a hardware fault on the screen or 5F module.

Thank you for your replies. I was told the last time I took it in that one of the campaigns was relevant to to the MMI flickering and that they had patched it in. It is a well known fault as referenced in the above link. Eastbourne Audi are due to call me tomorrow so I will see what they say.

Patch could be just simple update, but it will not update the version number as they is no major change to the MMI system. I guess if they have applied the patch and it's still faulty then you have a hardware issue.

The instrument cluster was updated on my A6 via the MMI system, this was to fix the cluster MMI display on the DIS randomly rebooting, but it did not change the MMI version.

Good luck with the dealer tomorrow.

just had a call from Audi they would like to do 2 free updates
1 is the B&O speaker grills ( already told them before I don't want this on the last service
2 is an SW update, they couldn't advise me on what the update is for, any ideas?

Did you have the camera software patch applied at the car's last service?

What is the function of the 90k9 patch? Can anyone tell me if the MMI SW update 0976 gives control of the SW or are we banished for ever not to have control of something where the manual states there should be control?

As stated, 90k9 patch is for the windscreen mounted camera and, if my memory serves me correctly, it is to prevent misting up.
