...so it’s been a long time since I posted on here, but figured it’s as good a place as any to post updates on my recent SQ5 order...

I currently have an S1 which I love to bits, but I’m getting older and could A: do with some comfort and B: we’re starting family so the SQ5 seemed logical step. (As I can’t quite afford an RS6!).

Managed to bag a reasonable deal (is 11% reasonable on one of these?) and have ordered the following spec:

Daytona Grey

21inch Wheels

Bang & Olufsen

Pano roof

Electric Memory Seats

Advanced Park Assist

Comfort Pack

Vision Pack

Air Ride

Flat Bottomed Steering-wheel.

I ordered the car mid Jan, was told I would get a tracking code form Audi, and I’d be able to confirm the exact spec of my order before production starts, annoyingly that never happened and originally I hadn’t added the air ride - having decided I wanted it, I called Audi yesterday and they told me it was too late to change it as my car was scheduled for build week of 8 and all changes were locked - after I asked what happened to keeping me informed they realised that they hadn’t given me the build tracker, so they’ve reordered the car for me with the air ride. This is good on one hand as I’m getting what I want, but very frustrating on the other as this is now adding 5 weeks to the build which I genuinely don’t understand as I only ordered it 3 weeks ago first time round, and given that it’s not build week until the end of Feb I can’t see why can’t they just add the components to the first car ordered for build week 8!!

ETA at my dealership is currently mid-June so I’ll keep you posted if/when I get my new tracking code!

Sounds like a nice car car you have ordered. Colour and spec are good. As for build weeks and delivery times, I don’t honestly know how it works, they just pull numbers out their head and hope we accept them. Hope they give you your order number soon then you can at least track it. Keep us updated.good to see you back.

Exact same thing happened to me, after 2 weeks I changed my mind and decided to let them bend me over for the red calipers but was told it was already locked in - despite the build week being months away.

PS sounds like a nice car you've got coming.

I was at my local dealers on Saturday, got around to talking about swapping my S4 for an SQ5 they had in, after a quick test drive we talked numbers and agreed a new order to my spec would be better, same spec as you without air & pano but a few other bits.
I showed him my best car wow offer of 10.2% (Excluding finance contribution) they agreed to match without having to haggle.
I think coast2coast best deal was 12% so I would say 11% is good.
My dealer said realistically it would be 6 months for a new order.

Can't believe your order was locked so quickly and couldn't change, wonder if your dealer used an un allocated order of the system? On my S4 it take at least 2 months before it was locked.

If I do change my car I'm tempted to order late March or April to get the bW22 model year changes! Not that I think there will be much on SQ5, maybe black pack

I have build week 10 (5th March) for my SQ5 ordered in mid December 2017, so I reckon your spec got applied to an existing order to get week 8 first time around. Even week 13 doesn’t sound terrible based on my order being 7-8 weeks ago...

I don’t see Storage Pack in an otherwise comprehensive spec (folding mirrors is required with the memory seats).

Interested that I’ve not seen another build here including the Tour Pack, but it’s expensive and down to personal preference.

My dealer has quoted my estimated delivery as end of May, hoping for June 1st/2nd to maximise my road tax.

Should say I got near 9% discount in December before the 1.5% price rise. Is your car an outright purchase or a PCP?

I'd don't think they going to carry on with the derv it'll be good if they do the reason I call it sfsi because the old 3.0 tfsi units were supercharged Supercharged Fuel Stratified Injection unless they replaced it with the b9 s4 engine the it's a proper tfsi (sorry)

SQ5 has the ‘hot V’ Turbo V6 from all the other B9 S cars. BiTDI is allegedly coming later this year for 2019 in Europe. There are even vaguer rumours of a RSQ5 with the BiTurbo 2.9 from the RS4 Avant and RS5 Coupé. I guess anything is possible.

I think the storage pack is the only thing I might still consider now - however looking at the order tracker I’m not sure how I can add to my spec, anyone know?

I love the sound of the tour pack but I’m not convinced I love it to the tune over a thousand pounds, even though adaptive cruise control would be nice.

I’ve now got a new build date of 26th March which I think puts the car in my hands mid June...we’ll see!

I think up till 8 weeks before build changes are possible so I think you might struggle to add the Storage Pack now.

I have ACC, Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keep on my current car and would choose them all every time.

I’m March 5th with an estimated delivery late May.

Based on that I’d say my order was locked in the showroom then! (Despite the dealers comments that I’d be able to alter until 2 weeks before build week).

Either way I’m not overly bothered about the storage pack, the seat nets get full of crap that needs binning all the time and the rear cup holders are never used. I do like the sliding tray but really not worth it for that, and I have a few cargo nets from other Audi’s should I need one for the boot.

I didn’t mention it before but I did add the wireless phone charger when they reordered it as it was so ****** useful in an A5 hire car I had!

In response to the blind spot assist - is this the same as ‘pre-sense side’ which I have or more advanced? It’s a bit ambiguous in the wording on Audi’s site.

Audi call their Blind Spot Assist, ‘Audi Side Assist’

The wife has a Qi charging phone, not got one myself yet. Is the pad big enough for a plus sized phone?

Then it’s inc. in the parking pack I’ve got - looks like a pretty neat option to be honest, I wonder how quickly you could get into a bad habit of fully relying on it and not physically checking...?

RE: the wireless charger, I’ve got an iPhone X and that was fine, the tray is way bigger than it so should be fine on larger phones.

After having it on a Mercedes for 4 years, it doesn’t stop you looking. But it does give you a reassurance that nobody is in your blind spot exactly when you move.

Great, good feature to have.

My S1 and part exchange vehicle got stolen today - absolutely gutted as I’m meant to be going on a road trip tomorrow!

I’m insured and have GAP cover but once that pays out I’m not sure what happens between the payout and mid-June when the new SQ5 arrives - any ideas?

So your S1 was your P/X car?

Talk to your dealer, they might take pity and loan you something to fill the gap (you might be able to negotiate a good deal on a 3-4 month loan).

Gutted for your S1...

Just seen this thread and then this. Happy for your new SQ5, but gutted about the S1. Hope you get a positive outcome on what happens now.

Fingers crossed, I’ll start talks with the dealer next week and see if they have a loaner for a few months - that said I’m now seriously questioning my order as I don’t want a the car to be a giant target parked outside my house - maybe it’s time to reconcider...

Sadly not - the police closer the case within 5 days, my insurance are dealing with the claim in the next 6-8 weeks, the dealer said they won’t give me a loner and that’s about it.

I’m not allowed to cancel my tax or fianance until they pay out so it’s costing me hundreds per month for someone else to either drive my car or sell it in bits!

...I noticed today that original canceled SQ5 I ordered is now in transit - will be interesting to see how long it takes to arrive in the uk compared to the second one I ordered and will hopefully receive.

Also had an offer from the insurance today, my GAP provider has told me not to accept it so I’ll have to wait and see how long that takes to pay out!

I’ve heard about this to and fro that is possible between insurer and GAP provider. What level of GAP do you have?

I have back to invoice cover.

The invoice I have is £22,500, the insurers have come to a valuation of £17,960, but the GAP will only pay out when the insurers agree to the Glass guide valuation which £18,600 I think - I’m not in a rush as this will just go towards the deposit on the SQ5, but I have no idea what happens if they can’t agree.

So my SQ5 was due to start being build today, but being the impatient type of guy I am I looked at my Audi order tracker on Thursday last week and it was already up to the paint shop stage, this has changed today to Quality Control. [no messages or emails from Audi to say the order status has changed!].

Although I suspect this tracker is actually completely arbitrary and not exactly real-time, it does suggest they might be a fraction ahead of time on this. As you know this is technically the second order I’ve placed due to a spec change, and this car was ordered on the 9.2.18, although my tracker says it was ordered on 16.12.17 so they must have allocated me an earlier manufacturing.

Anyone know the approx. arrival times from quality control to ‘arrived’ - I'm still not anticipating an arrival before June.

QC 5+ days
Left Factory to Arrived 8-12+ weeks

My order left the factory on March 12th, I’m hoping it’s on one of two boats. Or else next boat will leave Veracruz this week (HOEGH BANGKOK). Estimated to get to Emden in Germany mid-late April...

I’m assuming the hold up is in Germany, and given that I’m car-less and stuck relying on Zipcar following the stolen S1 saga I would very much like to take delivery sooner rather than later.

I have also ordered a SQ5 on 14/3 with an expected delivery of 04/09, but hoping for a 18 plate. The options I have are.

Navarra Blue
21” wheels
Adaptive air suspension
Pan sunroof
Nappa Leather-Magma red!
Red brakes
Flat bottom steering wheel
Carbon inlays
Comfort and sound pack
Vision and light pack
Parking assist pack
Storage pack
Folding mirrors and memory seat.

Currently drive a (13plate) Audi A4 black edition 2.0tfsi..which I have had no problems at all.

Looking forward to the extra power thile SQ5 will give as I believe even with the larger engine likely to get similar fuel economy. I also had a 11 plate q5 and one thing that bugged me was the wind noise At 70mph, and have heard the new SQ5 is whisper quiet.

and have heard the new SQ5 is whisper quiet.

Coming from an S1 which was the noisiest thing I’ve driven since the Pulsar GTi-R I used to have 15years ago, the SQ5 is certainly quieter, but in the couple of test drives I’ve had I don’t think it’s as whisper quiet as people have suggested. There wasn’t any notable wind noise but there is definitely some tyre noise on the 21s.

Thanks for this..it has to be quieter the my q5 (11plate) but you could be right the reviews I have seen could be in the 20” and European/American roads..

Hence went for the air suspension (which I think is a steel at £1k)..is £4K on other makes!

A big step up for you from the s1!

...I’ve ordered air ride for the same reason, although the test model also had that - hopefully only 3 months wait to go!

Congratulations on your order. You are brave going for the red leather! I looked at it and decided to go safe, but ai secretly wish that I didn't ;) Great specification otherwise, did you manage to get a decent discount? I ordered my car 14 weeks ago and hope to get it in 8-9 weeks. Even if you get the car in September, you could still choose to put an 18 plate of your choice on it, but would cost you £400 and unless you planned to personalise the plate I'm not sure I'd bother.

Lots to read here as you start your wait.

Did you test drive the SQ5? I tried a SQ5 with standard suspension on 21s and the ride was was composed but had a firm edge in town (even in comfort). I then tried a regular Q5 on 20s again with regular suspension and that quiet good ride wise. I spec'd air suspension to get the best of both. By the way both cars were very quiet when cruising, though the SQ5 in dynamic had a great rumble from the exhaust!

Main hold up is the multi-hop journey from the factory in Mexico:

1) Random time to reach Veracruz and intermittent ship schedule from there.
2) Multi-week voyage from there via America.
3) Final turnaround in Emden where cars do appear to get a check.
4) Lottery with all other UK bound Audi's to get a ship to your dealers nearest port.
5) Transport from port to dealer.
