as subject - I am pretty sure the back seats don't as it is 2+2 isn't it?

Rears no... fronts arguably but they would be on stilts...

S3 recaro seat sits very high... TT seat sits very low... be like sitting in a monster truck after...

The last run TTQS 240ps had recaro buckets on std subframes... you have to be 5 foot nothing to sit in them... fine for most hairdressers of course :)

Yeah - so "my" (potential) tested totally stock engine hairdressers car doesn't smoke on idle but does have slight positive pressure from cap. Eg the the cap will vibrate when undone, the engine looks unaltered, although the current owner was told there are some poly bushes on the lower wishbones when he replaced the suspension and it has an RNSE fitted.
His partner said the car was "too fast", but when he drove it flat out with me in the passenger seat, it was 12psi (on android torque) so un-mapped. I'm really tempted - maybe return tomorrow for another view and deposit. But I'm paranoid the engine is not sucking from oil filler cap, there's no smoke coming from either cap or dipstick and engine bay looks clean and oil free.

Why would an engine be ‘sucking’ from its filler cap????
It is perfectly normal for the cap to jump around a bit when loose. It’s positively pressured, hence the great big 19mm vent on the passenger side

Okay thanks, I thought the tip was supposed to suck the air and not it be pushed.
So it's only bad when theres smoke billowing out or the dipstick doesn't stay down?
That's put my mind at ease

That will be the OEM Hairdryer...it was an optional extra on that model

its a stock engine hairdryer - I'm looking forward to picking it up driving for a month and then ruining it. (my god these engines are rubbish at 12 psi, its supposed to be a sports car) although with a mapped car of course it has a crack manifold, cracked hot side, blown downpipe, blown engine, blown clutch etc etc

the boots weird its like a long thing which includes the back seats, you could have fitted your poodle in it - next to the dogs hair dryer.

not sure about the selling of it whole - probably bring that back to take off the DP, TIP/Heat-Shield/Filter and Intercooler + pipework.
if it was only the clutch wrong with the S3 I would have paid the 900 odd to have it fixed.

I have an BFV (240ps) Map and am trying to find out if that version was only a map - or had a different something else hardware based, I reckon it is just load requested stock Maps nearly always aim for 1 AFR, whereas the experts always say that's just for the environment and fuel economy, and you're better off at 0.9 or even 0.85 under load.

the TT forums appear to state the exhaust is slightly different and a different MAP to ~237BHP - hmm interesting - surely this is simply the £350 generic stage 1 map installed at many tuners.

All the same hardware

Thanks Karl, fingers crossed there's not some hidden issue. The only apparent faults I have found are some little bubbles on the drivers side roof rails at front and back and pixelated DIS. But like I said standard 225 lacks a certain umph. But it feels rock solid and stable in the road.

Picking up TT on Friday now instead of tomorrow night. Decided to cancel my S3 eBay advert went through a list of parts which are probably saleable which is potentially about 70 items. Should be fun, the 1st item for sale will be my unused but fully serviced and red rubber greased "forge splittr" :D <-- awaits backlash for "forge shitter" and car with enough space for my hairdressing scissors - and a comment saying "hey I had that car it's a,b and c"

Car looks nice , The amount of time you spend fixing it you should have it apart in no time ha,
I’m guessing your keeping a few bits that will come in handy like the 3” dp , tip fmic, haldex

Yeah current list of keepsies are dogbone, downpipe, TIP, heatsheld, filter, FMIC and pipe work.

I suppose I'm going to need to get some tarp to keep it under, and try to avoid selling the windscreen first :) someone is after the seats already, but I'm snowed under at the moment so can't make anyone promises.
Actually looking forward to taking it apart :)

Looks like a nice car, They seem to age really well. Bubbles on the roof rails are very common and nothing to worry about.
The pixelated DIS also another very common one but a bit more expensive to resolve if you want it fixed.
Check the windows drop when you open the doors, they should drop down 1/2 inch or so and then go back up when you shut the door, If they don't likely to be the microswitch on the door lock.
Headlamp washers (Aliens) usually don't work so well. But you don't need them for an MOT anyway.
Haldex issues are quite common, check the earth strap, on mine the connection literally disintegrated when I touched it.
There are plenty of mods to make the car handle better, and if it hasn't already been removed I would ditch the 16Kg lump of cast iron attached to the rear bumper.
One of the guys on the TT Forum with a track car has a sticker in the side windows similar to the Rally cars where you have the drivers and co drivers names. This one says Tony and Guy :)
I used to think it was the roadster that was the hairdressers car though, that's what I tell people when they say to me my car is a hairdressers car.
The BFV engine AFAIK is the same hardware wise as the standard 225. The QS 240 did have slightly different gear ratios, 3rd is a bit shorter than a normal 225.
Is that a standard exhaust as the pipes seem to stick out a little more than standard.

I thought the pipes were a bit bigger than standard - they might just be replacement chrome tips - they are > 3 inch tips going down to maybe 2.5 inches.

The last MOT had a suspension top mount movement and broken exhaust rubber and the owner replaced all the suspension so I wonder whether they had the exhaust rubber replaced and maybe it's not been fitted back quite right, if it is sticking out or the angle of the photo maybe?

The engine is standard and it has a standard map and standard downpipe, its dry in the engine bay and the PCV pipes look like new. hopefully problem free. #fingerscrossed

thanks by the way I did read some of your extensive thread on the TT forum.

I still have this cheap ebay cover stashed in my garage.

If the mice haven't eaten it,you're welcome to have it mate, not sure how 'waterproof' it is but it's free to you.Plus if I deliver it,I may be able to rob some parts from your S3 while your back is turned

Good to see you've bought the right colour this time, car looks sweet mate.

Do we need to get the administrators to warn the TT forum of an impending @Stuart B bomb that is about to land in their forum?

no way... I am going to invite them all over here instead. #mayhem All of us TT owners all run upside down Forge Splittr Dump Valves on 24 clicks

its a thing of beauty..

I found a clip of you and your 'new mates' arriving...

looking forward to scanning for faults tomorrow :)

my guess is
latitudinal sensor?
clutch switch?

I don't think the aerial is plugged in as sat nav and CD, dvd work, but DAB and tuner doesn't (although I think it's a standard fit.

The Driver's door's window doesn't drop 2 cm when opened (as predicated by desertstorm) Passenger door is fine.

also what can I do about only having 1 key? I have 2 keys for my old car, can a key be coded to an ECU etc?

and the bonnet release is very stiff is there a safe method to try and lube the cable?

Your in the wrong forum mate, this is A3/S3 8L

With regards to the radio,I think your's will come with FM,MW,LW & DW( Demi-Wave...only found on your model TT )

I already told you - I have an army of TT bam chums ready to infiltrate the A3 forums,

I’ve only had 1 key for almost 3 years, lost the first within the first week of ownership..... living life on the edge.

Barebacking a key lottery.

I have once unlocked the S3 thrown the key on the drivers seat then looked under the bonnet whilst the car decided to lock itself with the key inside on the seat. But it was on the drive and the spare key was in the house.

As the TT forum is dead, I will post this here instead. After owing the TT for a week this is a couple of initial analogies.

The TT reminds me of the top group in ski lessons when I was a child. I spent 6 days in group 2 and one day in group 1.
The S3 is like group 2.

In group 2 we were all young and had a muck about, good but ragidy, loud and a community.
In group 1 everyone was refined, snobby, elegant and perfectionist.

____________

The TT and S3 are like sisters.

The S3 is essentially the one who smokes and has sex is club toilets, the TT is the one who saves up for a church wedding.

Are we to expect a more refined level of post from you from now on too? ;)

<tuffty/>

The problem I have so far, is I don't have any problems worth posting about ... yet.

I think the exhaust pipes look to be looking out a bit because it has a V6 rear valance. Maybe those parts dip in a bit.
Just stripping the bits i'm keeping from the S3 over the next few days then it's going to is new home, in feeling positive about getting the downpipe undone being the nuts and studs are only 18 months old. Two nuts should be easy I might even be able to reach the third from above.

Think thats bad!!... wanna try the A2's LOL...

In fairness they have a rather decent forum of their own and full very pleasant A2 owners... :D

<tuffty/>

So... Spent 4 hours getting my bits off the s3 today, all completed with the exception of the downpipe, got the nuts off, that took over an hour but it can't get out the bottom, I even tried pushing the engine over after removing dogbone, and pulled the heat shield off. I'm getting too old for this. It would have only taken me an hour to get the head off, as any new engine owner would need to do something about the crank case pressure in any case.
So tomorrow do I drop the sub frame or take the head off?

I will check some you tube videos, maybe able to only undo a tiny bit I need about 1 cm space.

Has anyone ever cleaned a catalytic converter with cataclean directly.

It's it feasible to get someone to reliably v-band the downpipe both at the top (so I don't need to drop sub frame to fit to TT and the bottom so I can swap out de-cat pipe easily.

Joined ttforums too, so I will arrange a 5 a side football match or something, to keep the peace.
I think the reason I can't remove stereo is the trim is an aftermarket part called mannis double din. #winner.

Lastly, is the ECU and MAP for a TT BAM the same as an S3?

Sorry that's a lot of questions for someone virtually leaving. :) I'll always have my thoughts will my S3, and heart and soul with the extreme car maintenance learning.

She's trying to stop you ripping out her windpipe like a backstreet surgeon.

I would suggest Netball perhaps, less likely to get your hair all messed up :flushed: good luck on your new, hopefully less painful, path to Nirvana.

I'm sorry to tell you that you have fallen into my trap as we now both own a Black BAM Audi.

Welcome to the cult, pay your subs at the door.

how often do you clean your Black Audi? and how do some look so shiny I cant imagine any dirt even sticking to them? I was considering using demon clean plastic and trim spray on the actual paintwork. they look nice clean they look dirty 10 miles later, I am feeling confident the wings might last longer.

I got a new air freshener for it, if I turn it to 11 o'clock it is strawberry at 1 o'clock its lemonade at 12 o'clock it is a blend of strawberry and lemonade. My life is much simpler now.

Give it a good clean with a clay bar and a good wax takes a while but the car looks mint afterwards

As I have a S3 I use Halfords Wash and Wax,I think it's excellent for the price, but maybe for a TT you should consider something a bit more gentle, like Timotei.

Oh!...and try not to get any in it's eyes as it will sting and we don't want any tears at bathtime :crying:

I use the obsession wax or the cheaper harly carnauba wax on mine

thanks - and how do I get all of the ring marks off the aluminium gear knob and door handles, makes me wonder whether the previous owner may have been a lady.

I only say that - as you open the door with your right hand and change gear with your left and Sovereigns went out of fashion in 1987
