I have had a software tuning done (stage 1) and today I had the EPC light and jerky running. So VCDS says code cylinder disable. After some research it seems the ignition coils should be replaced.

My question is which ignition coils are better than the standard ones for the S3 8V? Seems the Audi R8 coils are very popular but they dont fit in the S3 8V?

Before replacing, move the coils around and see if the misfires or error code comes back up on the specific cylinder you moved too.

Any coil works, but in my case it was the spark plugs that were the weakest link. Being stage 2, I was running I, but misfires. I then upgraded to colder plugs, the ikh27 and now no problems at all. The 27 are relatively cheap at $10 each on Amazon.

Thanks. I will try new plugs first since its a low cost anyway. Everything is stock. The fault code doesn't specify which cylinder? I will replace all spark plugs as a first step and see what happens.

You should be able to get live data feed. Find the misfiring feed for each cylinder, then you can better pinpoint which cylinder is the problem.

Obdeleven directions, but should be somewhat similar.

I think I will replace the plugs anyway. Looking at Denso IKH27. Found a place that has them in stock. There are also recommendations for IKH24. Do you know what is the difference between these?

I would recommend using the RS7 plugs.....you can find what ones they are online quite easily

Yes I have been looking for the RS7 sparkplug with partnr 06K905601M but cannot find it in europe. Maybe part number is different here. I have sent an email to HS Tuning..

The ikh24 are one step, and ikh27 are two step colder. I personally would not use the rs7 plugs as they are overpriced and are a one step colder plug.

Who was the tuner ?

Fitted RS7 plugs to mine over the weekend all 4 for £35. They’re NGK plugs with iridium tips and one step cooler which is a similar spec to the NGK Race plugs I ran last time which cost £150+ !!!

Coil pack wise the latest revision coils are very good or if you feel like spending then the RS3 items will fit.

Thats a real good price ! I payed £66 for the Denso IRH27 x 4 here in Sweden. I had trouble finding them so they were on special order. I checked the price for the RS3 coils with my closest Audi dealership and they are about £65 a piece. How do they differ from the original S3 coils?

Sounds like the dealers over there are having a laugh ! - half that over here for the RS3 coil packs.

I’ve no idea tbh but the tube part that goes over the spark plug looks fatter so I’m guessing better insulated/shielded and probably higher grade connectors.

Most plugs come pre gapped to the correct gap but it doesn't hurt to check them.

There was a recent group buy on a Facebook group called 'Audi/VW/Seat/Skoda parts - mjr901' . Usual price is more like £55.

I get confused when searching for the "OEM Audi RS3 ignition coils" with part number 06H905110G. What is the actual brand / manufacturer for these, because I find 4-5 different makers of the same part.. Bosch, BERU, Bilstein, Delphi, NGK.

:hubbahubba: As tempting as it is to get it mapped I’m trying a few different things this time round, currently rocking a JB4 with custom map 6 which is really good :salute:

can someone educate me in why these would need to be replaced from standard?

when you start modifying and tuning your car there is an overwhelming need to replace absolutely everything as OEM is seen as sub-standard lol
someone else needs to answer you properly....

the plugs

Yep ...

The OEM plugs found in the RS7 can also be installed into your tuned MQB/8V vehicle for a step colder plug. A colder plug will cool off between combustion cycles faster than a plug with a larger pedestal. Since the plug is able to cool off between combustion cycles there is less heat in the combustion chamber which reduces the chances of detonation from an overly-hot combustion chamber. Colder plugs are a perfect compliment to your tuned vehicle.

So when buying the "OEM" RS3 ignition coils with the Audi dealership I can get any one of these "brands"? I just want to make sure I get the highest quality one

I believe so mate - think they’re all top brands tho so shouldn’t worry too much.
