Bobby Singh A4 3.0 TDI build thread

Flipping awesome. I can't believe you've got an whole 100bhp more then me. I'm already scared enough with 408!!!

Thanks for keep on pushing the envelope. This is truly magnificent.

Likewise mate :)
Chassis is alittle nervious now - each gear change brings a huge rush of power and in the wet...well lets just say traction stays on all the time.

Probably doesn't help that the torque wants to fold the chassis over like a sheet of paper. Haha.

Should run 11s at Santa Pod.
Next stop Salt Flats for a VMax run. :D

Thanks Gaz and Bobby, my car is so horrible to drive at the moment. I'll put up a before and after so everyone can see the difference between h&r and eibach on a 3.0tdi.

I used to frequent a forum that had a rally instructor/car builder etc on it.
He used to say Eibach/Bilstein every time the suspension questions came up for a road car
He was not a fan of H&R

Hi Bobby, I'm interested in your crank case vent setup. As you don't seem to have the metal pipe coming out of the oil separator anymore. Is the oil separator still there but then just the blue pipe plumbed directly to it? Or did you upgrade the oil separator as well due to the increased blowby?

Hi - under the egr you will find a oil breather which I’m connected to directly. The stock metal pipe just extends this further up

Cheers

Gotcha, that's what I thought. What inner diameter is the hose?

That is a solid effort! Looks like massive lag on the graph but in perspective its making soo much torque and power it just looks that way. Id imagine it would still easily be steetable with that setup, until full boost kicks in anayway :p

Is this H&R experience right across the VAG range and Eibach is the answer ?

I had H&R on my Scirocco and they were excellent . My friend had Eibachs on his and the ride and handling was better with the H&R.
But depends on the car for sure.

In the case of A4 then Eibach provide a more comfortable spring.

Blue hose you mean?

Thanks - the turbo can spool sooner but due to surge requested set point is lower.

Hello..

I would like to find out about the achievements of the 3.0 tdi engines, it seems the high level of knowledge .. I have a good performance .. so i turn to you for help .. i am mercedes v6 cdi i have a 224 ps motor .. i was new but i was injector problem .. and I would like to ask if the CRS3-20 2000 bar injector can be set up instead of the factory 1600 bar injectors .. they have been installed .. that standard chiptuning does not work well .. and no one can do it .. or help in it .. Sorry Bobby to put you here, Thanks .. (Sorry bad English)

Hi - so you want to run 2000bar rail pressure? You have a stock tune at the moment?
You will need a rail sensor that can read upto 2000bar and fix the calibration in the map.
Where are you? maybe i can recommend someone for you.

Thank

Wow, 505 BHP & 980nm is seriously impressive. @bobby singh : you mentioned your Gearbox is stock . What about your clutch??

Whats is the Max Torque Limit for the manual gearbox? I was under the impression it was 800nm ??

Yes but the injectors are not factory .. I do not know how to calibrate them from the beginning .. or just put an end to the pressure .. now there is a standard reprog .. if not good .. i can download .. and send the program .. yes I think there is a 2000-bar sensor for a Mercedes ..

Gearbox and clutch is stock yes - You realise I have a 6hp 28 ZF Tipronic box not manual.
FYI manual can take 900mn depending on the clutch condition.

Im sorry I can't provide help in that area. But you should ask for the duration map for the injectors.

Ah sorry, I got mixed up between your car and @desertstorm - his is a manual

Good to know that manual can take 900nm.

I though the Tiptronic gearbox had a lower tolerance.

So what is the Max Torque limit for the Tiptronic Auto?... I thought it would be lower than the Manual?

Thanks so .. number of injectors 0445117 030 factory is almost new, but unfortunately I can not find the data anywhere ..

Bobby what are you going to do to over come the surge? The engine physically can't flow enough air for the requested boost or other issues? I think I read you were going to bleed air off the intake to prevent this? if the boost gets uncontrollable via the vanes wouldn't it be better to put an external waste gate to help control the boost also will reduce back pressure when in surge condition. Just a thought

There are two use cases for this surge issue:
1) In gear surge
2) Gear change surge
Gear change surge is has been over come by the built anti surge feature within the ECU
In gear surge has been overcome by requesting less boost.

But yes some type of bleed off would allow better spool - you can imagine the tuning that's required for this to work perfectly.
To be honest I'm thinking of a new project haha I've done the 3.0 to death now.

Hi Bobby. When you replaced your valve springs did replace the oil seals as well . I'm consuming to much oil, and before I remap it I could do with getting it fixed.
I'm trying a thorough flush first. I've got decent compression and wondered if the oil scraping rings are stuck .
If that doesn't work I was going to tackle the value stem oil seals . It looks fairly straightforward it's just making sure I don't screw up on the timing chain's . Would I be right in thinking the v6 diesel is similar to the v6 petrol internally .
Any tips .
Regards
Brad.

If you on this thread I think I posted a picture of the ZF rating for each gearbox type - official ZF say 6hp 28 is good for 700nm
With close to 1k nm I don't the gearbox and DMF will too happy on a manual.

Hi Brad no I never bothered to touch the stem seals, My car doesn't burn any oil etc so I never bothered to be honest.
Buy the timing kit tool and ensure you remove both chain covers to ensure TDC before removing the chain or the cam's. I made this mistake and spotted it in time :)

Its a fiddle job and I wouldn't want to do it again.

I ended up making my own tool to compress the springs which fixed on to the injector studs (your petrol won't have these studs)

Good luck

Thanks for the info.

Air line or bring the piston up.
Just be sure you are compressing the retainer true you dont want to push the valve into the piston for obvious reasons.

I know apart from the dyno you guy haven't seen or heard about any times from the car.
But I pulled a 9.7 seconds from 100 to 200
Previously was 11.3 - nice improvement.

@bobby singh I have read this thread many times and it was nice to see the detailed work, dedication and that you reached the 500hp/~1000nm mark. It went so far I even bought the exact same car instead of the A6 C7 218hp. Same gearbox and engine as you and also an -09.

If I remember correctly you did ask for software/remap for the 6HP28AF? It's possible with tools like MagPRO if you have access to it. There should be many tuners in GB that have access to it. I know getriebeklinik in Germany using this with good results.

Don't be a copy cat :)
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes I have MagPro and other tools and now can access the gearbox, but its pretty complex - so changing rpm shift points is possible but I'm struggling with speed at which they can change at.
