yourAudi - Track New Car Order

5DD08048 9821 45D6 9A7D FA68C3FE5EF4

Ordered it last Thursday - got this through already as they sent the form to the factory today or yesterday?

What’s likely to happen next / build date? Not in a rush to get the car.

Congrats!
If you have / get your order number you can track progress on Your Audi.
This might not be active on the system until a week or so after your order though (any time now then).

As above image Your Audi progress states it’s on received with a date of 29th January although unsure what the date is actually for? It doesn’t state anything related to build!

Welcome !

At the moment you car has a provisional build week of w/c 29/1/18. At the moment it really is provisional and the build can come forward or go back. If that date hasn't changed by mid January then that's when the build will start. I found build week changes, if they happen always appear on a Sunday morning. Mine changed 3 or 4 times before it actually happened but to put that in perspective I had a 5 month wait between order date and initial build date. In the end it came forward 4 weeks so I waited about 4 months for the car in the end.

Assuming it does get built W/C 29th the build actually starts around Wednesday of the previous week, the tracker will change and show "panel shop" and so on. By the Monday your car should be in QC and leave the factory a couple of days later. You then enter the great unknown - waiting for a boat at the docks in Emden. It can get on a boat within in a few days or upwards of a month. Its normally another week between the car reaching the UK and it arriving at the dealer. My guess would be, assuming the build week doesn't move mid March at the dealer.

Thanks for that info, so it doesn't actually start on 29th? it's kind of finished by then, in essence? - So the 29th is QC? Essentially, if i keep an eye on it from the wed before (24th Jan) should see some movement; as you've mentioned with the various stages such as panel shop?

Noticed it says "Order date: 11/12/17" on the top of the Your Audi page which is actually at least a week 1/2 before I even spoke to them to order the vehicle, I wonder if either someone's dropped out and they've given me their allocated build slot (and modified the vehicle etc)

Essentially yes, your car is built by the time your advertised build week starts. Don't be too alarmed if you see nothing happening the tracker is notoriously unreliable. Mine went from status 20 to 30 overnight but the JSON data showed the build had started the previous Wednesday.

From JSON you can pick up your VIN number once status 30 happens.

It looks like you picked up a cancelled order or a dealer stock car slot that the dealer has adapted yo your order.

Just to clarify the tracker will show the build as starting Wednesday/Thursday but the actual build starts on the Monday of the build week.

The tracker is automated and starts updating early. It is not accurate. If you speak to Audi customer services they will say its not being built until the day stated and that the tracker is wrong.

I have an RS3 on order with a build week of 15/1 and so I expect the tracker to start updating by next Thursday 11th January but I know it won’t actually be starting the build until the 15th.

Sounds more like it's on the train to, or already at, the port, where it'll wait on a ship

You were probably right as says arrived in the UK now

Hope dealer doesn't call for it to early and have to go through the whole no I don't want it until 1st March as agreed

Yes that would be correct as it's dipped and painted on the Thursday/Friday before as it starts getting assembled on the Monday - Can't paint it afterwards

Picking up mine tomorrow. Long train journey and a great drive home :)

The painting happens on Monday - and by Wednesday its left the factory. Nothing actually happens before then despite what the tracker says.

And believe me I wish it did - in just over a week my tracker will update to say my RS3 is being built but I know it isn’t really :p

My S3 has arrived in the UK and the dealer called me today to offer me to collect it this month even though when I ordered I specified a March collection.

I suppose I need to consider if I will lose out much if I collect it this month?

There maybe a little loss on value when you come to sell it on as it will on 67 plate rather than 18.

Remind the dealer you specified a March collection and what are they going to do to make it worth your while. Dealers struggle to meet monthly sales targets this time of year, that why they contacted you. If they are desperate they will be prepared to throw something extra in to sweeten the deal.

Don't be scared to be cheeky and push them a little more on their first offer. You'll be surprised how much they want the sale

Not strictly true, the body has to be assembled from pre pressed panels. If you consider how many panels and sub frame pieces go together to form the body / door / bonnet and hatch there's a good few hours welding needed before it gets anywhere near rust proofing and final paint.

Not strictly true either - because the Audi factory system doesn’t specify when the panels are pressed and painted etc; it literally goes from stage 20 (confirmed build) to stage 23 (Assembly) then 24 (QC).

Only the tracker shows prep, panel and paint as stages and it is only for show. If you contact Audi Customer Services (online using the chat feature or through the phone) they will tell you its not built and then its being built. There are no other details in the middle.

So your right those stages do happen but for all we know they happen several weeks in advance or the same day - Audi don’t share those details :p

My S3 sportback Black Edition was due to be built today, just check and it says Quality control, would you say this is ahead or about right. Also how long does it take to land in the uk once it’s at this stage. Thanks

That is the 'piece of string' question.
It should get to Emden Port in a few days. The unknown is how long it takes to get on a boat to the UK. It can be a matter if days or up to a month. You just have to sit it out I'm afraid.

I agree with @Chris43 but if you look back over the thread you will find many posts showing how long all the stages took. Typically the time from QC to a boat to the UK is 10 days. But it could be less or it could be more, as was said before depends on how quickly the car is assigned a boat.

As an idea of the time length, my car went to status 30 on 23/11/17 and has only just today gone to status 40. Just over 6 weeks to get from the factory to the UK.

That is very slow - just so you know. It shouldn’t take 6 weeks! My S3 was 3 weeks from build start to UK and I ended up having to wait 5 days to collect because of the weekend so just under 4 weeks to collection.

So on average how long would the whole thing take when ordering an S3? If I ordered one today, when realistically would I be driving it? 4-5 months time ish?

@S3 Muzzy It depends on the dealer - Basically the way it works is there are pre-ordered cars by the dealer that would go into stock that potentially could be built around one month after you order it (depending on what they have ordered). With those cars they can alter the spec to what you want so you are not queuing from the back.

But the dealers won't tell you that - in fact the best way to find out is to ask them if they have any cars already on order that can have the spec changed to what you want to speed along your order.

If they don't then you are looking around 4 months because they have to place an order and wait for it to be accepted by the factory and then you join the queue.

My S3 Saloon took 4 months - and that was an already ordered car that had the spec changed. My RS3 (which is built next week) was ordered in August (2017 - so last year) which is an even longer wait!

It comes down to how patient or not you are and calling dealers all over the place to find one that has a quicker delivery window if you are not patient.

@S3 Muzzy How quickly do you need the car?

Mid May the manufacturing build year changes so chances are the standard equipment will increase, its likely the price will go up slightly as well but the car becomes better value. All manufacturers increase standard equipment in cars as the model life ages to maintain sales. If you order in March chances are your car won't be built until the new model yr and you may get more stuff as standard.

In a month or so the MY19 changes will be announced. Just something to consider.

It shows how things change.
In Sept 16, just as the FL was coming out in the UK, I ordered my car with a handful of extras and had it mid Nov 16. And it wasn't a pre-ordered car. It also sat at the port in Emden for 2 weeks of that.

Cheers for the replies guys. If I waited for the new model, would it cost more than the 2017 version? Just something to note I want to get it on a PCP contract I'm not buying it outright.

I think it's safe to say that the new model will be dearer. They always take the chance to hike the prices.

Pretty sure they already just bumped the price this month for current model, crazy how they get away with it again

It’s a shame you so patient - as the car probably arrived sooner. Stage 70 typically happens several days after its been received by the dealer :p

But not always - but I got stage 70 a week after I collected the car. I would never recommend anyone waits for Stage 70. Get onto the dealer as soon as it arrives in port at the UK.

Unless your waiting for an 18 plate like I am... My car went into paint today according to the tracker, so should be at the dealer by mid Feb and will be stuck there until March 1st.

The dealer rang me the week before last to say that car was in the UK port as the tracker had said and that delivery of the car to myself was imminent. The dealer still hasn't received the car and is still sat in the UK port. Does anyone have any idea how long they can be sat at the UK port from experience or anything? Sorry, I'm being impatient!

7-10 working days in the normal (could be done on one day if the dealer is close enough), but if you are waiting the car ASAP just ask why it's taking so long.

This seems to look unusual when comparing with previous JSON data that has been pasted in this thread. I assumed the orderStatus would match the most recent orderStatus within order history.

Hey all, after the 105 day wait, my car finally arrived on Wednesday! I couldn't be more pleased with it, everything was spot on and I can't thank Audi enough for everything they've done.

I took a few days off work just to drive it hence the delay in the post.

P.S Apologies for the pic quality, I'll try and get some better ones to post in the 'Post Pics Of Your Facelift A3/S3 8V In Here' forum when I get a chance this weekend.

Once again many thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread as it's been a real help!

Just in case anyone’s car got to emden this week and going to Tyne, mine got to Emden on Thursday and is already on Viking Constanza heading for tyne. Only at emden for 2 days!
