Every 2.0 TFSI a3 I have heard had a nice burble to it and a slight, nice bit of drone. Same for S3's.

For some reason mine is silent. This is slightly disappointing. I can hear the whining / whirring noise these engines make over the sound of the exhaust at all rpms.

Was there a quieter option or something when speccing them? It has a somewhat wierd spec.

They are always louder on the outside than the inside. No option to spec a super quiet exhaust as far as I am aware. You could liven it up with a BCS downpipe and spruce up the performance too

Go the whole way and get yourself the full BCS Turbo back and you will never look back what an investment i even turn my window down and stereo off just to listen to it doing its sh*t amazing piece off kit .

Its got an audi warranty for a year so stuff like that is out of the question for now.

OEM however.....

I was thinking of buying an s3 backbox and having that fitted. They route differently so I would just need a pipe done to connect it to the resonator.
S3 backbox is nearly half the size of the one on currently.

I have an S3 with the standard back box and an APR downpipe with sports cat. It certainly is not noisy and so I would say fitting an S3 back box would be a waste of time if you are wanting a bit of noise.
Also, the S3 has a flap valve that opens at certain revs in the left hand tail pipe. Your car may not have the electonics to actuate the flap so certainly no good.

Learn a new thing everyday i didn't know an normal S3 exhaust had a flap valve or maybe i just thought it was something else on the one i av in the cupboard .
Be worth asking @samuelh_888 how much he wants for his turbo back as it will be a hell off a lot cheaper and better than buying part off an exhaust .

In addition, if the OPs car is fwd then the 4wd S3 exhaust probably will not fit.

S3 Back box defiantly wont fit.
TFSI engine is a noisey engine and sounds like a bag of spanners with the hood up, its the direct injection, the N80 valve taps away as does the cam chain side tensioner that works with the hpfp.
You could do a mid box delete and that will liven up the sound for sure. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-...silencer-delete-pipe-deres-pipe-/362193911167
I have a BCS sport powervalve full system and its awesome, the sound on the loud pedal is addictive, its deep and purposeful, the mild burble on over run when pootling through my village is nice and subtle as not to offend or sound too boy racer.

S3 backbox WILL fit with a re-route pipe fabbed. It is the same diameter.

I don't want my car to be overly loud. I just want the burble you can hear at all revs on a standard S3 with the valve opened.
Again the valve - you just open it permently. there is a guide on this site.

As it stands my car is ok at idle as soon as you drive the burble is gone, and then you hear it at about 2500rpm...yet I can hear the wastegate rattling over the exhaust it is that quiet!

The resonator delete makes it OTT in loudness, as it contains a helmholtz. You get the kind of drone that rattles your teeth otherwise, sadly.

Whats the point when you can buy a miltek, scorpion or powerflow aftermarket that is pre manufactured .

"Its got an audi warranty for a year"

And Milltek are known to drone, kinda of defeats the point no?

I believe its the full non resonated miltek sports system with sports cat that drones, you can opt for the resonated backbox.
If you fit the S3 back box then the Audi technicians will pick up on it anyway and void your warranty.
In my experience a warranty it not worth the paper it written on after your first month of and thats if you bought the car on credit with a credit card payment with the deposit from a forecout, they wriggle out of it. You can always ask them.

The standard s3 exhaust is annoying after a while, had more annoying drone with it than I do with the BCS powerflow. Never get annoyed with the BCS, id save your money for the next year when the warranty will run out and then you can spend on worthwhile mods

If you are worried about your warranty i woulddo bug ger Aw to your car until it has run out cause i am sure as day follows night if something goes wrong and you have changed something they will try and find away out just ask fellow members

you don't have a VR6 and you don't have a 2.5 T so you have a sound similar to diesel. If you want THE sound then purchase the BSC and you will never look back. This forum is not afraid of TD1 or warranty issues. If you want to play then you may need to pay. If you are warranty refusal averse then wait a year. Otherwise throw caution to the wind and buy it. I really could care less about Audi and their warranty. If you purchase the right components and the right installer then the issues sort themselves out. Most of the issues on this forum come from bad planning, bad components and bad installs.

My point was ... putting ‘phat noise’ on essentially a 2.0l family hatch seems a little silly ... but then I’m an old fart so must say more about me.

Mines a family hatch, take the dogs out pick up the kids, the missus does the shopping in it and when I`m not driving my van I've got a quick car that sounds epic to drive and I`m 48 years old.

The smiley one has just bought his newer quality A3, beats me why he want's it louder. I like 'quiet' in the family car. If it's soundtrack you want buy a V8 something or other.

i just can’t see the difference between adding noise to a family hatch to the Nova boyz with their exhaust bling ...

Slight difference mate, the ages of the Novaboyz was 17 to 20 and I would think they have grown and matured into more select brands of cars by now, without boom boom exhausts.
My biggest mod on my first car (Ford 100E) was 5 1/2" steel wheels, with radial tyres, super cool because the same wheels were fitted to Cortina Lotus mk1's. So noisy exhausts, nah -----------never liked them and certainly don't suit the Audi brand.
By the way my 6 glass glass of Dalwhinnie is going down a treat.

Aren't we luckily we all like different things, living in a world where we all liked the same thing would be real boring.

Just imagine such a world, we could all end up with a Toyota Prius on the driveway..

I have to say a noisy exhaust on an Audi usually means it has a hole in it ....so is going to sound pretty crap when people look up and see a n A3 and not an MX5 with 12" wheels :)
I will buy a BCS this spring because i want to progress towards stg2 but my ideal is to keep the car 100% std in appearance and sound....but that's just my thing.

Im gonna do res delete when warranty runs out.

I was out in the car earlier being "enthusiastic" with the throttle on momentum 99 and whilst it is nice and quick the exhaust is practically silent even at 3100rpm when it starts coming on boost all the way up to near the redline.
