Auxiliary Heater element fault

Basically what its saying is that you don't dot aux heater. That why you got them disabled in vcds as well you confirming it on your specs. Probably you got a base version of a3?

No have a 2007 S3 with quite a bit of extras, maybe it was an extra in he prefacelift?

but anyway from your posts from vcds as well your equipment list telling that you don't got it at all. Only way (as far as I know) to check it is getting down the console and checking if it is there physically, if is connected, if answers are for both questions are yes, that mean somebody (if you aren't first owner) knew this fault and disabled heater, so no codes will be thrown by vcds, otherwise could be faulty unit, not connected, cut, unplugged cables, fcked up fuses for unit or control module, control module. Obviously I'm not professional but is the way I would do in your case.

Hi all, I have found that I also have a fault with my Aux Heater, I have stripped down to the point at where I am looking at the circuit board. I have found that mine is also bonded onto the component and am trying to figure out how to look at the back side of the circuit board to see if I have any dry solder joints. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get into it without breaking it and the old photos are no longer available. Can anyone help?

Old thread I know.
But the auxiliary heater is an optional extra, and all cars will throw the same fault code as will all cars with no steering wheel controls that are not fitted with them.

So, as it turns out you didn’t need to remove the board. This shows my lack of knowledge when it comes to electronics.

The board is multilayered and so there isn’t anything to solder on the back. The resistors are essentially a tube that is held on by solder on the top of the board.

Hopefully there is no damage! One of the resisters looked to have a dry joint on the one end. I’ll reinstall and see if I can monitor the output with my VCDS cable. Fingers crossed.

I’d read this thread in the past and had presumed the heater in my car wasn’t working as I’d never got it to work, but now I’ve checked all the PR codes of my car I’ve just found “ 9M0 Without auxiliary/parking heater” .
So I’ve been looking for a fault in something my car doesn’t have, lol.

Ha, nightmare.

I was under the impression that there were two types of auxiliary heater. 1)The diesel powered type that not all cars are equipped with. 2)The electric type, the one in my pictures above, that all diesels are equipped with? Would you’re a bit have the 2nd type?

It looks like I posted too soon!
I’ve just checked the list of PR codes of my car and it does indeed have the auxiliary heater!
Further down the list I’ve just come across

“7E6 Electric auxiliary air heater”

So I guess 7E6 is the code to look for....either way mine doesn’t seem to be working....or I haven’t had the right conditions to get it to work.....will have to investigate further methinks.

Any chance of getting the pics in this useful thread posted up again please ?

I have an A3 2014 diesel and just noticed a smell of burning that could be coming from the Auxiliary heater I have been told it could be power cable to it that is melting and or possibly the heater itself
Is this possible because I have no idea?
Many thanks in advance
