Audi S3 8L - EFR 7163

Been a while since I've updated the thread. I found an adapter for the egt probe from sunpro M12x1 to 1/8 ntp and that worked out fine.

I've also started the work on a gauge pod in the center air vents, atm. It looks more like a 3 year old has been playing with playdoh but I hope once I've sanded it down it will turn out nice ;)

Hello

It`s been a long time since I`ve posted something so i figured that I might as well update this forum as I have done on the Norwegian one.

This post will be a long summary of what`s been going on with the car for the last one and a half year followed by a selection of pictures that I`ve taken during the build progress and up to today's date.

The hybrid build was finished may last year and the car felt incredible, since my last post I`ve put together a fully forged bottom end with 81,5mm JE pistons, Scat rods and all new main and rod bearings, I also redid the head with new guides, stem seals and polished the valves and seats. The DMF got replaced with a Single mass from 034 Motorsport as the DMF was finished...

In april 2015 the engine finally found it`s way in to the engine bay so I could start making the intercooler piping, here I used 2,5" aluminum piping kits that I bought of Ebay. I were lucky enough to get my dad (who`s an earlier welder, now works in fish-farming) to weld the pipes, and the result turned out great in my opinion! In may it was all done, at that time the car still used the original MAF which ment limp mode was a big factor (only happened once) but a tune got sorted later that month and the car turned in to an absolute animal... :D I dynoed it in the middle of august and it made 291 horse power to the front wheels and 383 nm, so i missed my goal by 9 horse power which I`ll accept.

But in september the car started acting up, on an eight hour drive from the vest coast to the east I had no boost for the entire trip, the car drove like a bucket filled with cr... minus the bucket :p when I got back from the trip I checked for boost leaks but none was found... It was not before I took the turbo out that I found the wastegate lid had unscrewed itself and all the boost escaped trough there. The turbo is now fixed, and the setup is sold to a nice S3 owner here in Norway :D

As per day the car has turned in to a big turbo project and is slowly getting completed, the setup now consists of a Borg Warner EFR 7163, 830cc deka injectors, vipec i88, arp head studs, homemade tubular manifold and a FP34 fuel pump with surge tank from 034 motorsport. That is all I can think of for now, but there is probably more. My new goal now is 500hp (crank) and keeping my plates :p

Heads up for more updates!

290who on the BBT hybrid, no idea what I'll be getting from the Borg Warner as of yet... all I know is that it's rated at 550hp and people has made this power and more to the wheels :D

Like the build. Install looks clean.
Interested in how the turbo performs too. When are you planning on tuning it?
Thank you, trying to keep it clean.
I really don't have a plan on when I'm tuning it, taking it as it comes I guess... But hopefully around oktober maybe, time will show.

EGT's will read very hot with the probe in the collector... just remember that when making decisions on how to respond to them... in the OE position of a K04 an EGT of 900deg can be well over 1000deg in the collector...

Yes, been discussing this with others about where to put the EGT bung, and landed on the collector on this new setup.

Long time between the updates here. The BT setup has been "finished" and is now running a healthy 340whp or close to 400chp @1,6 bar. I've talked to my tuner about what is needed to make more power and the list of parts isn't too long

I'll just leave a few pictures here for you... :)

It's been some time since I've been on the forums now, and the car is running solid. It has gotten some TLC, a three stage polish with sealing wax, washed the enginebay with scholl engine dressing to bring the plastic back to life. I've also given it an oil service, fabricated a new catch tank and exhaust. Plus fixed a rusthole in the floor under the rear seat footwell.

The car also got to go on one of the few tracks here in Norway. I drove the car 16 hours (home -> track -> home) plus numerous laps around the track, and the car worked perfectly, no problem :D

Jealous! Damn that is nice looking :)
I tried to clean my car but years of neglect on it has made horrible impact plus 3 times it has spilled oils in engine compartment(previous owners)
so you can imagine the mess all around.

Beautiful! Looks clean.
Rust hole in the floor? Rust terrifies me, check mine all the time ha ha
A3/S3 has tendency to rust from water removal holes close to rear seat. The plastic/rubber cap gets removed by accident or something and then dust/sand etc. hits to it removing paint and then you have a nice rusthole soon.
Also if you lift the car from wrong spot, it can push the side panels in and make holes to paint=rust all over.
I have fixed several with same issues.

MartinRagnhildstveit wasnt it pain in *** to make TIP for your hybrid turbo version? I struggled with mine because the damn brake booster is so big :D
Had hard time to fit the 76mm hose/pipes in there.

Thank you! This is in fact the first time in six years of ownership that I've given it this kind of TLC... That says a lot about me I know but detailing was not my cup of tea back then. So the most it got was the occasional wash.

You hit the nail right on the head there! The rust came from one of the caps been gone fore some time... but now it is all patched up and painted inside and out.

The tip was bought from Ebay, I stumbled upon someone selling a aluminum kit with blue hoses. But bought black hoses for the extra subtle look and of course painted the tip black.

Looks great! I made my own TIP since there aint ready ones for my setup. I would love to weld the intercooler pipes but no aluminium TIG anywhere.
My tip is made from stainless steel mostly and one part is normal steel because I ran out of SS. Painted it black too. Pics on my topic if you want to check out

I've used an old China ac/dc tig welder my uncle got his hands on many years ago. Used it for every bit welded and fabricated for the car, it works quite well. Yours looks like a good solution, as long as it clears everything your mint ;)

Where did you get that red anodized breather plug with screw? and the one in your rocker cover?

Those are integrated engineering ones, but these days there are many offering them.
