2013 A4 necessary maintenance costs...

Hi all,

Just passed my MOT, was advised I’ll need the following work done soon on my 2013/14 A4 Black Edition, 150. Opinions on DIY and/getting it done cheaper near Croydon, someone reputable, thanks in advance

Gearbox oil change £280:00+ WTAF.
As it is nearing 38k

Front discs & pads, (70% worn), just under £400:00, priced up Brembo replacements for around £120:00 + fitting of course
Can I fit myself, or do I need special tools?

Brake fluid refresh £70:00
Really needed?

Cam belt & water pump £625:00
About £80:00 for parts, is it that labour intensive to cost £500:00 + in labour?

VW can do your s-tronic oil change for £200
Disc and pad charges are just ridiculous at that price. I'd take it to a local garage for that

Front Discs and pads are easy enough to do yourself no special tools required.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic meaning it absorbs water moisture so eventually it will rot your brake pipes from the inside so advisable to change it every few years. you can get a pressure bleeder and brake fluid for about £20.

The reason for the massive labour cost to do the cambelt is you have to slide the entire front end forward to create enough space to get in there and you are looking at around £200 in parts as its advisable to change all the tensioners and pulleys while you are there. Can be done yourself but you need a few special tools to slide the front end forward (These can be picked up on Ebay cheap)

Can't comment on the gearbox oil as I have never changed that on an Audi.

I guess that makes sense if they change all the pulleys too, and the work is not something I’d try, discs & pads I think I could do okay, the rest would be a garage as I have no proper tools etc.

The cambelt is a big job. Not recommended if you haven't done one before. Brake fluid change is easier than doing the discs and pads with a pressure bleeder. This is what I use on all the cars I do: Amazon product
