try cleaning the contacts martin or check them and make sure they holding the bulb nice and tight, could also be the screw that holds the light in needs doing up a bit more

cheers will have to take it out and have a good luck

loose or poor fitting bulb or bad circuit contact Martin , make sure contacts are nice and clean on bulb and lamp holder, also fit snugly.

Black tape holding mine on :sunglasses: that's the professional way, in all seriousness the part they screw into is very prone to break when removing the number plate lights and the screws are also very likely to be corroded which is why mine is now held by tape as the screws and unit were ruined, could be worth swapping screws and the part it screws into if they won't go flush, I also swapped the number plate bulb holder to an LED version from eBay which can be hit or miss but mine's been in the car about a year now... and so has the tape haha... it'll be done properly one day honest.

Contact cleaner can sometimes work well for making sure the light cluster has a good connection or if the bulb holder has been removed a few times the light cluster is likely to be a bit worn which can cause it to not seal properly which is the main reason I changed mine as a previous owner had done it up so tight it cracked the unit.

Use some sand paper (any grit is fine) or some aluminum foil and clean the contacts on the light housing and the compartment on the car itself. Had the same problem with our Q7 and this fixed it immediately. Like others said, make sure you screw it in there good an are making good contact.

Been suffering exactly the same issue on my avant. Warning light on dash comes on intermittently and sometimes it like a disco. Cleaned all contacts, preformed continuity test on circuits everything screwed in tight but still does it. Light tap on the clear cover and it comes back on. Driving me nuts!

The contacts on the assembly bend a little bit. Be gentle and bend them up so they stick out a little more and maybe they’ll make contact better. Also clean out the contact for the bulb as well just in case.
